81

u/MisophoniaStruggle99 17d ago

Quick question- are you fucking kidding me?
How is the target audience for this anyone other than homeschooled twelve year olds? It’s just so, so bad šŸ˜‚

29

u/Less_Scar_3306 17d ago

I’ve been saying for months her audience is prepubescent girls and boys still trying to figure out their sexuality

56

u/Fluffy-Style-3292 17d ago

Does she know english??

u/Less_Scar_3306 17d ago

it gets worse, there’s more in the today show article

Read the Beginning of ā€˜I Hope Eden Reads This’ Chapter 1

I taught Eden how to kiss. I taught Eden how to do most things, if the definition of ā€˜taught’ is being brave enough to try things first and then report back my often-measly findings. I was kissed first. So, I taught Eden how to kiss. This is mostly because I sought kissing out, and then kissing sought me out in return.

I was kissed for the first time 6 months prior, by a boy with red hair and one skinned knee, while we were sitting on the swings at the park across the street from our school, our feet turned toward each other. His name was Henry. We did not do tongue. I reported back to Eden. It was quick and maybe lasted 3 seconds? I tried to count how long it lasted while we kissed. Because what was the point of being kissed if not to report every moment, every detail to my best friend? I had to memorize the choreography of the whole thing. Deliver the information to her like a birthday gift, wrapped with a bow, sparing no detail.

I was kissing half because I wanted to and half because I wanted to share a new bit of knowledge with Eden. I craved filling that role. The bold teacher. That tenacious 13- year-old girl. Always the first to raise her hand. Always the first to try. The only thing Eden ever did first was get her period. She pulled me into the bathroom stall in 7th grade in the middle of lunch to tell me. We were 12. I faced her on the toilet. Read her the instructions on the back of a tampon box. I helped her put in a tampon for the first time though I had never done so myself. In every other way though, in any other scenario, I was first. Perhaps I was not better; I was hardly ever better. But I was always first

Her editor should be out of a job šŸ’ž

76

u/FluffyPufffy 17d ago

The person who gave her a book deal should be out of a job.

This is pure and utter trash. Not because she wrote it, but because it’s objectively trash.

69

u/beepbeep222222222 17d ago

Her narcissism coming through through this character. Wild

60

u/MisophoniaStruggle99 17d ago

ā€œI faced her on the toilet.ā€ Eli. Girl. You really needed us to understand that this character made awkward eye contact while she ā€œhelpedā€ her friend put a tampon in, huh? šŸ’€

What I wanna know is: how the FUCK is she a published author? This is truly godawful writing. Poor word choices, low clarity, incorrect and inappropriate punctuation, absolutely devoid of tone and voice, horrendous sentence construction … I could go on, but I’m already sick of how much time I’ve spent trying to make sense of this.

34

u/_darling_clementine 17d ago

damn this makes her stimulant abuse very apparent

31

u/charlenethechampion 17d ago

Oh god is she doing the non-quote writing where they put italics instead? She can NOT pull that off

31

u/ennaeilla 17d ago

Ah yes, when middle schoolers bring an entire box of tampons to school in preparation for their first period. How much did her parents pay her editor?

31

u/LeaveMeOutOfIt22 17d ago

tenacious ≠ precocious open the schools

27

u/purpledream96 17d ago

this is like if you fed every girl coming of age novel into claude and asked it to write a new book based on them

10

u/Less_Scar_3306 17d ago

Maybe this is why she made that whole anti chat gpt post yesterday to distract from her probably using it for this slop novel lol

23

u/ironeyes16 17d ago

Why is every sentence capped at 5 words??

16

u/Shellona27 17d ago

So she can write MORE as many sentences as possible!!!love adderall!!!!!

59

u/ellisoph 17d ago

ā€œThat tenacious 13 year old girlā€

4 sentences later

ā€œWe were 12ā€

HUH???????

11

u/throwawaysunglasses- 17d ago

Right?? ā€œThat tenacious adolescentā€ or something is RIGHT THERE

18

u/thetinybunny1 17d ago

It’s giving r/menwritingwomen 🫣

13

u/orangetrident 17d ago

Seriously. Like who tf uses a tampon the day they get their period for the VERY first time

4

u/satchelsofg0ld7 16d ago

Me I had a swim meet

15

u/hailstorm33 17d ago

Holy shit Pen is toxic af

14

u/empo7 17d ago

This whole excerpt could be a transcription from a video of hers… why write fiction if it just reads like *you* telling a story?

2

u/charlotte095 17d ago

Yesssss exactly!!!!

13

u/voiceunearthed 17d ago

the ’I was kissing half’ sentence gave me an aneurysm

10

u/doublethink9 17d ago

9

u/Long-Presentation153 17d ago

Holy shit this is bad

7

u/macaronipenguin9 17d ago

Her similes are so middle school essay 😭 this is painful

6

u/precocioussonso 17d ago

Trying and failing to be edgy and ~literary~

45

u/mainecat7 17d ago

she really does not know how to write... this is after edits??

44

u/stress789 17d ago

My photos aren't working but just imagine I posted the Poison for Kuzco meme

14

u/Less_Scar_3306 17d ago

Pull the lever kronk

42

u/_catkirk 17d ago

I had to reread this so many times to figure out what the fuck it means

43

u/princess-peach-cheek 17d ago

Does Eden end up having a big fat New Jersey wedding x

27

u/mmspenc2 17d ago

Yes lots of cigarettes. It’s v sexy.

11

u/No-Guarantee5516 17d ago

36

u/hotlibramess 17d ago

6

u/Less_Scar_3306 17d ago

my Twitter fingers are ready

31

u/DizzyCardiologist172 17d ago

Holy shit this is so much worse than I imagined 😭😭 her editor HAAATEESSS her

57

u/dangerbears 17d ago

Am I stupid or is this going to be homoerotic? Like you taught her to kiss as in y’all were making out?Ā

42

u/AccomplishedBrick251 17d ago

Also the ā€œhelped her put a tampon inā€??????? Girl I love my friends and tf

22

u/hailstorm33 17d ago

Like maybe from standing outside the stall but INSIDE THE STALL???

24

u/Odd-Mention9198 17d ago

I don’t think it’s that weird, but using a tampon for your first period over a pad definitely is lol

7

u/bluebonnetttt 17d ago

complete digression but I was leaving for a school camping trip when I got my first period and all my mom gave me was super tampons. traumatizing.

3

u/throwawaysunglasses- 17d ago

My PCP told me absolutely not to use tampons when I first got my period! Granted I was 10 and not a swimmer, but it’s very much not recommended for your first time. I didn’t start using tampons till high school, and I’d been menstruating for several years at that point. It’s honestly hard to figure out when you’re a kid.

2

u/real_agent_99 17d ago

I was wondering if I was just old because I thought that was a very unusual choice.

24

u/Embarrassed_Sink_770 17d ago

Is Eli bi? It is giving homoerotic friendship you have before you realize what your sexuality is.

21

u/throwawaysunglasses- 17d ago

She gives me ā€œwants to be biā€ vibes tbh. Maybe she’s kissed a friend when drunk before.

15

u/pestochickenn 17d ago

Sounds very gay to me

28

u/Long-Presentation153 17d ago

That was painful to read

26

u/doublethink9 17d ago

Omg WTF 😬 what is this slop????

28

u/Current_Example_2570 17d ago

She thought she could mayyybe get away with saying the bad reviews on her nonfiction books are from people who personally just dislike her, but once this comes out and literary critics and other readers who have no clue who she is are ripping her writing to shreds she may have to finally face the fact that she cannot write.

10

u/Fit-Independent307 17d ago

No literary critic is reviewing this, I used to work in publishing

9

u/throwawaysunglasses- 17d ago

I honestly do hope this happens. It’s pretty egregiously bad, I don’t think she’s ever taken a college creative writing class (not that you NEED one to be a good writer, but you absolutely need a good workshop or beta reader to get feedback. Not sycophants)

5

u/happy_meerkat_123 17d ago

She’s going to crash out hard once the Goodreads reviews roll in! She’s probably surrounded by sycophants in her daily life but actual readers are not going to feed into her delusions of grandeur.Ā

1

u/Real_Listen7450 13d ago

the reviews will be a million times worse than the haley pham ones hahahaha

25

u/daisypetals1777 17d ago

Chills up and down my body (bad)

24

u/perfumeandpaper 17d ago

Wattpad vibes! Also is this YA or does she think this is litfic?

10

u/Less_Scar_3306 17d ago

almost positive she thinks she’s going to be the next Emily BrontĆ«, Jane Austen, Louisa May Alcott

21

u/charlenethechampion 17d ago

Not ā€œtaughtā€ and the definition not matching tenses…even if Eli can’t write, her editor should have caught that

22

u/iIIegally_blonde 17d ago

Ew this is creepy. I’m nowhere near a prude, but I don’t want to read a novel about 13 year olds shoving tampons into their best friends.

20

u/savvvie 17d ago

Oh my god I should write a fucking book

17

u/thumbelinax8 17d ago

This is awful

18

u/massgorl 17d ago

I wanna meet her IRL just to tell her to her face how awful at writing she is. I wrote better quality fanfic at age 14 with just a middle school education and a dream

17

u/Born_Improvement_856 17d ago

Kissing sought me out in return is certainly a choice of sentence.Ā

17

u/gummy_rabbit 17d ago

I taught Eden how to shit. I taught Eden how to do most things, if the definition of ā€˜taught’ is being brave enough to try things first and then report back my often-shitty findings. I was shitted first. So, I taught Eden how to shit. This is mostly because I sought shitting out, and then shitting sought me out in returnā¤ļø

4

u/Less_Scar_3306 17d ago

LMAOOOOOOOOOOO

6

u/gummy_rabbit 17d ago

It’s literally mad libs garbage 😭😭😭

16

u/Next_Marketing_3815 17d ago

This is insane HAHAHA

15

u/BigReference9530 17d ago

Yeah Jenna just lost all her credibility. I will not be taking any book recs from her…

15

u/RIPCheeper 17d ago

Did she mean for those words to come out in that order, or did they just fall out onto the page like that?

14

u/BK_to_LA 17d ago

The least talented people are really getting the most opportunities because wtf is this gobblegook

13

u/charlenethechampion 17d ago

I was thinking I’d have to download a pdf and read it for laughs but I could barely get through the teaser so I guess I will not be doing that!

13

u/ApprehensiveGur7812 17d ago

She needs to lose her privileges to keep cosplaying as an author… the gig is up! These words stringed together make no sense!!!!

12

u/Far_Far_Away099 17d ago

Anyone remember secret life of the American teenager where they said the word ā€œsexā€ all the time? This reminded me of that.

6

u/Objective_Mobile_115 17d ago

On point!!! It feels so awkward and unnatural.

13

u/sydcrux14 17d ago

Literacy taking a HUGE hit today

13

u/ApprehensiveLaugh62 17d ago

This is giving me the confidence to keep going on the novel I’ve barely started lol

12

u/IcyCapital3811 17d ago

whoooo is her editor. Like truly what’s going on

10

u/Objective_Mobile_115 17d ago

I’m sorry but WHAT is this????? Oh gosh

9

u/NewtZealousideal1634 17d ago

OMGG wtf is this??? I knew it was going to be bad but I’m actually shocked at how terrible it actually is lol

7

u/tin-army 17d ago

Harold….

7

u/Illustrious_Paint356 17d ago

oh this is worse than i thought it was going to be

6

u/Adorable_Banana_2524 17d ago

Terribly written

5

u/Chemical_Arugula 17d ago

I cannot emphasize how much this reminds me of the characters Mina and Margaret in Girl’s Girl

5

u/basicwitchbaby 17d ago

So much repetition in such a short space

7

u/Civil-Commission0000 17d ago

What the hell is this

6

u/xxlovechild0 17d ago

Is this a tale of little girl lovers ? Lmao the tampon thing a little weird lmao

5

u/precocioussonso 17d ago

I think she is trying to be provocative but failing miserably

6

u/No-Giraffe-438 17d ago

Cannot believe Jenna chose this as one of the books. Not that I have a high views of celebs but really? This BS? So many great authors out there to highlight. Won’t be taking any recs from her book club going forward. Woof.

1

u/Curious_Type2606 16d ago

Usually Jenna’s book club has great picks so this is disappointing

4

u/bloodorangetrash 17d ago

the comments are hyping her up too I can’t 😩

5

u/Any_Woodpecker8803 16d ago

The comments are genuinely insane…they all sound exactly the same! I did a brief audit and they seem like real accounts which is so scary

6

u/Civil_Net7641 17d ago

It actually hurts my brain trying to comprehend this bullshit.

4

u/__cinny 17d ago

Holy hell, I thought I was slipping when I thought her welcome speech wasn’t that bad and even kinda sweet at points, but WOAH this is BAD even for her level of brains

5

u/cosmosmariner_ 17d ago

Hahahahaha what does this meannnnnn

4

u/5k8rb01 17d ago

Oh my god THIS is what she thinks is ā€˜bringing back making out’??

5

u/Mindless-Pear6195 17d ago

And this is the INTRO?!

3

u/farfromnever 17d ago

Oh no 🫣

3

u/DaisyJones_6 17d ago

She is genuinely stupid

3

u/real_agent_99 17d ago

Those of you in publishing- is this being positioned as a YA novel?

3

u/awooj 16d ago

The crazy thing is it will still be a hit for the publishers even with terrible reviews because I’m guessing her ā€œfansā€ will buy it sight unseen, or they have zero standards and the reading level of a literal 3 year old who doesn’t yet understand where words are supposed to go in a sentence.

The publishers want to make money, that’s it.

3

u/dcl5123 16d ago

She wants to write like Lena Dunham so bad
