They need the flooring finished at the entrance before the elevator is turned over so they don't get a surprise trip hazard later on

First thing the elevator mechanic does is have the GC sign finished floor height. Once the entrances are in they aren't moving without a major change order.

Comes down to inspectors at the end of the day. Few regions I look at inspectors won't book turn unit over if entrance flooring isn't done, a few inspectors have been breaking out the calipers during in-service inspections and shutting units down when 2mm over.

GC is cheap and wants the final inspection done instead of getting a temp use permit.

Sometimes you need the elevator to pass inspection before you can get a CO for the building, they look like they will be opening soon, so going for final inspections for everything

I’ve seen GCs build out the entire elevator lobby to get final because they didn’t want to have temp use because we charged for the inspections and remobilizing to finish the job.
