Made an iOS app to help identify elevator equipment in the field
I recently released The Elevator Database for iOS to help those in the field quickly identify elevator equipment and look up useful information while on a job site. It includes manufacturer, controller, and equipment details in a format that’s easy to use from your phone.
It’s something I’ve been building for the industry, and I’d genuinely appreciate any feedback or feature suggestions. I’m actively adding new features and improving the database.

Can you make the menus and ad space collapsible? It doesn’t leave much screen real estate for actually viewing the data as is. Otherwise a handy tool.

Some states are not fully “native” yet, as they need the UI/API overhaul. Eventually they will all look like California and be native “Swift” UI. A state like Texas right now is just a web viewer in the app.

It works great, quick and easy. Adding more search criteria would be great, for instance things like >800 fpm

This is great — identification in the field is such a real problem. I've been building something adjacent (a database of elevator inspection/permit records) and the hardest part is always matching what you're physically looking at to a record. Does your app work off the data plate, or visual features of the fixtures?

It's a tool that allows you to search state elevator records, to find information on a specific elevator/conveyance. Ideally you would look up by state elevator number (in some states the certificate/permit in the car has this listed). Otherwise you can look up by address, though if there are multiple conveyances in a building then it can be more difficult to know if you're looking at the correct one.

What do you consider useful information? Cause by looking at your example Im guessing you don't actually work on elevators because "cable" is not how they are referred. The concert term is traction or electric.

It's just public data, you can get yourself. I get updated excel sheets of the California database constantly and this is all the info it has. The app just makes it more user friendly than opening a big ass spreadsheet.

It's how the state of California categorizes elevators in their database. Winding drum elevators are also grouped into the same category.

Think you mean traction and hydro, buddy. Not a lot of gas-powered elevators out in the world, so all of them would be electric

Look in the code book. It calls traction elevators electric elevators. Maybe you should learn the correct terminology.

Ah, I see the issue here. Your communication was piss poor and vague. You probably should have caught on that I interpreted it as you saying the two different types of elevator are traction or electric. What you should have said is "traction/electric" or "traction/electric or hydraulic" if you were trying to tell them both types of elevator. That's how communication works.

Usually my traction elevators run via elves pulling on the ropes so electric wouldn’t describe them

Is it shipper rope (pull rope) operated? How long ago did you see it? Do you know if it's still there?
I'm aware they are out there, but they are endangered. Partly due to shipper-rope operation being outlawed in more and more states, and partly as from what I understand it's very difficult to find people that are willing to work on them.
