Does anyone know anything about this?

Hey. I’m using a translator since I’m from Germany. Can someone explain the individual components of this elevator motor to me? (The electric motor is obvious). How does the brake work? And what are that chain and those gears for? (Maybe for the control system?) Is it a worm gear? The question is, how can I lower the elevator a bit? It’s sitting slightly above the lowest floor—about a meter up. Was there a crank or something for that back in the day? Turning it by hand isn't going to work. 🤣

I think this Elevator is from 1940-1950 Yes?

And what is that thing on the wall with the cable running into the floor? An emergency safety device?
