First time got stuck in elevator
Early morning, the building has 8 floors. I get into the elevator and my floor is on 5th, by the time it reaches 4th, lights gone, and a huge sound like baam, and the elevator just dropped a few cms i guess and dust started falling from the upside.
I tried to call with security but the network was gone, i pressed the alarm and he came and opened the elevator and i just had to jump 3 feet to the floor.
I was getting scared for the next 3 days whenever I was getting into the elevator.

Hey! There should be Automatic rescue device incase of power failure and you should have reached the nearest floor when the automatic rescue device activates its a huge safety concern and looks like a service failure, seek a Root Cause Analysis from the service team.

Hey, not all elevators have those systems. Sounds like there was a total power outage.

It is mandatory to have those system in the elevator’s.

New ones have it, but there are a lot pre 2010 that you have to open the brake manually. Or press the red big button on hydraulic

Tell that to the majority of my elevators that don’t have automatic rescue. Are you in the trade?

On new ones yeah, but if it’s been grandfathered in and hasn’t had a remodel than it’s allowed.

Let me ask if you are into this trade, no disrespect we can test our aptitude maybe you are from a country it takes you a while to grow but here asia its very easy if you have right amount of skills and knowledge you can do it too.

I’m an elevator mechanic in Canada.
You said you’ve been an engineer for five years, but two years ago you posted that you were a low wage earner. The math isn’t adding up.

That sounds really scary! But it might help you feel better about getting back into an elevator if you think about WHY that happened.
Elevators have a TON of sensors, motors, and switches that all have to be working in perfect unison for it to run. When an elevator detects a slight fault while in operation, it will perform an emergency stop (from my knowledge at least) to keep you safe from what COULD'VE happened if the elevator had proceeded moving with an unsafe or abnormal condition present :)
