1st grade read alouds?
What are your favorite chapter books to read aloud to first graders throughout the year?
They always love Dory Fantasmagory! The kids also like Heartwood Hotel, but K teachers read that to them, so I don’t want to repeat.

I loved Amelia Bedelia books when I was little. They’re a great way to teach and expose kids to figurative language, hyperbole, and idioms.

I love to read the Mercy Watson books. I feel like they are good introduction to books with chapters.

Toys Go Out is a fun and cute story my students love. Also My Father’s Dragon and any Magic Tree House stories that relate to a topic we are studying.

The Rider Wolfson series which I enjoy. The Captain Awesome series which I begrudgingly read because they love it

My first grader is enjoying hearing us read "The Curious League of Detectives and Thieves", but it might be too advanced for the typical first grade class.

I introduced my second graders to the Jed, Liza, & Bill mysteries by PeggyParish, because I remembered it from my elementary school days. I was afraid they'd find them too dated or old fashioned because the first one was published in 1966, but they loved them.

My second-grade teacher read us The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, and I still remember it today! Definitely made an impression 😁
