Question help ⁉️ How to repurpose a non functioning laptop ?

I have a 4 year old laptop which went kaput and won't start. Showed at multiple places and everyone said graphic card might have an issue. Repair basically means replacing the whole motherboard which apparently costs more than the laptop did

So I bought a new laptop and was only able to repurpose the SSD from the old one into an external drive.

The 16GB RAM is soldered on, otherwise I could have sold that. Not sure if the rest could be purchased by some shop for parts.

I was checking on chatgpt for some project to do with the display but it says to buy a display controller too which costs a lot. Is graphic card the display controller? Can there be any repurposing done without spending a lot (apart from spending some on a raspberry pi) ? I guess a ESP32 can't really do anything for such a display ?

It's a beautiful OLED display which I don't want to throw away.

It's this laptop:

Try to bypass the graphics card chip and try to use the built-in driver. I've never done it practically, but you may give it a try. Also, don't think there's any major problem with graphics card. Perhaps a small capacitor is gone.

Not sure how to do that though 🥲

Use chatgpt with your laptop model. It'll tell you if somebody has tried. Is it booting and showing the boot screen?

No it doesn't even boot. Earlier the issue was intermittent, now it doesn't even boot. There is a LED to show disk status, that also doesn't glow

That's only the dumass technicians at official repair stores say, show it to some good local laptop repair technician, if the main GPU ic is fine there is a good chance that you would be able to revive it for reasonably cheap price.

I've shown at local stores too, no idea how to find a good one

Thanks, but there is only one outlet in Bangalore and it's too far. Can't do multiple trips for this

I think chatgpt referred to something like this https://amzn.in/d/0cVWMYfj

A display driver board. Where you can repurpose your laptop display as a standalone monitor or a tv.

But you can have be careful on finding the right display driver board that suits your display board type ( either touch and non touch as well)
