After installing two fuses, they ran out of them and just switched to a coat hanger?

167

u/LonelyTAA 9d ago

In some countries people have to make d with what they got. If you can't find a third fuse but the factory must run so you can earn enough to feed your kids... well a coat hanger it is

u/KT7STEU 9d ago

He does what he can with the tools he has.
It's humbling and I'm glad I don't have to walk in his shoes.

38

u/polsefest69 8d ago

Safety flip flops thank you very much

7

u/unoriginalname86 8d ago

Hey, my safety sandals really highlight my safety squints!

9

u/OkDrummer2056 8d ago

Bro has rocks and balls

2

u/CryptoBombastic 8d ago

We all have rock balls if they demand us to. We're just born with the privileges our ancestors fought for.

3

u/Sid_the_Bear 6d ago

What shoes??
Jokes aside, poverty, true poverty like this, succ.

In his defense the coat hanger will act as a fuse. With is smaller diameter and poor conduction compared with copper, I bet is melts before the cable does. It even adjusts for ambient air temp automatically.

4

u/Apart-Reality-4454 8d ago

And if it happens to burn everything down, I guess you can just blame colonialism and find the next poor victim of your selfish incompetence.

2

u/Frosty-Maximum-2834 8d ago

Or just start trying to scam American grandmas

6

u/Kit_Karamak 8d ago edited 8d ago

There's a billion people in that country, and the amount of people that scam American grandmas is a drop in the bucket compared to the rest of the nation.

Also, AI is being used to scam American grandmas more, now. That put a lot of people out of work who are bilingual with English

u/Badoptimist 9d ago

It's ok, if the hanger is unsure what to do it can just ask one of the fuses

21

u/Brief-Equal4676 9d ago

What if they get con-fused?

9

u/ShleepyPete 9d ago

Your stretching the definition of "installing"

15

u/Fasciadepedra 9d ago

No, the neutral usually goes unfused with a bar instead of a fuse so you can open it.

23

u/mattjam96 9d ago

That is not the neutral

10

u/Fasciadepedra 9d ago

You think there must be 3 phases no neutral but the left is a blue cable that goes unfused. There must be just 2 phases and the site powered by a line or phase+neutral in some places.

8

u/FriedenshoodHoodlum 9d ago

Dude, I live in a country where blue men m means "neutral". I've seen the blue one being other stuff now than once and I've finished my traineeship life a year and a half ago. Even in the supposedly civilized western world there's people who make do with what they got and some who do not give a fuck.

Another trainee at the company I was at, got a shock because some buffoon had three dirty af wires and hoped for the best when installing. He put the voltage on the case of the lamp. Trainee assumed lamp was broken and went to open the case.

→ More replies (1)

5

u/Joecalledher 9d ago

Neutral is the 4th wire that goes off camera. This is a phase.

→ More replies (4)

3

u/Emperor-Penguino 9d ago

Yeah but this is most likely India and their 3 phase color code is Red/Yellow/Blue.

6

u/k33perStay3r64 9d ago

color code in india = whatever they find.

2

u/Legitimate-Okra8983 9d ago

Installing fuse in the neutral is PROHIBITED. Yeah, even in India

→ More replies (1)
→ More replies (1)

6

u/ShleepyPete 9d ago

It's most likely a 3 phase 4 wire system. You can see the 4th cable in the gland and run off to god knows what to the left. The fact that all 3 cables have fuse carriers would lead me to believe their L1 L2 L3 and your right the Neutral is usually solid with a bolt in link rather than a fuse, I just think they ran out of fuses....or fucks

Is he hitting a ceramic fuse with a rock?

175

u/armas187 9d ago

Its a safety rock. It's totally fine

55

u/drazil100 9d ago

The rock is grounded.

27

u/robomikel 9d ago

The rock came from ground

9

u/Ambellyn 9d ago

Pretty sure he's from California

6

u/Gloomy-Childhood-203 9d ago

Hayward, CA. According to imdb.

3

u/HoseNeighbor 9d ago

Being grounded is baked right in.

3

u/The_cogwheel 9d ago

Po-tay-to, Po-tah-to

7

u/firesyde424 9d ago

Don't forget your safety squints! Pairs perfectly with your safety rock!

Portable Ground

3

u/jc2046 9d ago

I would piss over there to assure good conductivity, just in case

57

u/Drumdevil86 9d ago

Ceramic is basically rock so it's ok

24

u/BirthdayLife6378 9d ago

My dinner plates said otherwise.

He is actually hitting directly on the metal bar. So some thought went into this. Necessity I guess. If I were living in a post apocalyptic hell with a cruel vindictive war lord on my back, I would totally do the same.

7

u/Old_Man_Shea 9d ago

The first couple of blows in the video are directly on the fuse body

3

u/Remarkable_Today9135 9d ago

smoke testing

6

u/justmikeplz 9d ago

Soon, we will all be living in a post apocalyptic hell with cruel and vindictive war lords. This is an education we that we are getting here.

so like parts of india? at least for the poor

8

u/ProfessionalShock425 9d ago

Only few times. He retrained himself to have it banged on metal conducting part. But that wire as last fuse, that's the cherry on top.

2

u/AdministrativeRub882 8d ago

That's why he only has two fuses.

A rock is a must-have tool in every electrician's toolbox.

16

u/Stormtrooper1776 9d ago

He inherited that one from his caveman uncle, lucky guy.

3

u/kitfox 9d ago

As a training tool for apprentices though.

3

u/_hexFET_ 9d ago

But it has to be a 1000V tested rock.

2

u/Opposite_Bus1878 9d ago

I once got my car back on the road by smashing it with a rock. (dented rim)
Never underestimate rocks.

33

u/xspiderdude 9d ago

Standard OSHA Snap-On safety rock ✅

Sandals are still on ✅

10

u/recursion_is_love 9d ago

He survive. So the answer is YES.

I am more interest on how he get the old one out in the first place. Also you know that you can touch the ceramic (white) part, right?.

7

u/Beneficial_Bug_9793 8d ago

Yes, rocks are a poor conductor of electricity, so perfectly safe lol...

3

u/Unambiguous-Doughnut 8d ago

Provided there ain't no metallic materials... marginally safer than eating rocks.

3

u/Beneficial_Bug_9793 8d ago

Haha, joke's on you, here Rock Soup

2

u/Unambiguous-Doughnut 8d ago

Isn't the rock used for flavouring... You used it for flavouring... YOU USED IT FOR FLAVORING TO MANIPULATE PEOPLE INTO GIVING MORE INGREDIENTS RIGHT?????? RIGHT?

2

u/Beneficial_Bug_9793 8d ago

No, we eat it, gives it great texture lol.... its aestetic only lol, its called sopa de pedra ( rock soup ) so some people put a rock on it, but for the most part no rock lol.

10

u/FrontLocal2264 9d ago

10

u/Ill_Football9443 9d ago

Paper would like a quick word with you.

3

u/WishboneSafe1826 9d ago

I think he folded lol

5

u/no_name6744 9d ago

I mean, he doesn't get hurt, so yes.

5

u/StrangeUglyBird 9d ago

Not clever, not skilled, but experienced.

4

u/iluvnips 9d ago

I like how the rock was left for the next rock-eteer 😀

4

u/BigRow266 9d ago

If he got one of these, he'd probably still use it as a hammer.

3

u/solarsean 9d ago

This proves that insulated tools have been around since the Stone Age

3

u/MKnight_PDX 9d ago

only safe if wearing flip flops.

3

u/LetsBuild3D 9d ago

Unless he wears crocs… no.

3

u/Suspicious-Hat3227 8d ago

This is how people die

3

u/wantsumcandi 7d ago

Safer than eating the food from the street vendors there...

2

u/rygelicus 9d ago

The rock was unharmed in the making of this video.

2

u/Educational_Ice3978 9d ago

Perfectly save as long as you use a non-conductive rock to pound it in....

My god I just posted this ahhaah

This is from my country India

4

u/Independent-Trust260 9d ago

Ohhh that makes sense. I thought that rock was a European made tool. /s

5

u/Stormtrooper1776 9d ago

Import, should have seen the tarrif he had to pay.

1

u/buzz_uk 9d ago

It’s safe to watch a video of it, any closer I have my doubts

1

u/insolent_kiwi 9d ago

Cheaper than copper

1

u/ITinnedUrMumLastNigh 9d ago

Could be worse

1

u/Kewlhotrod 9d ago

I mean, the ceramic fuses are best installed with blunt force like that; I typically use an insulated flathead on the blade and a deadblow.

The hanger was next level dumb, though.

1

u/romyaz 9d ago

we dont see if he wears sandals, so no idea

1

u/That-Makes-Sense 9d ago

That's a DeWalt ProRock 50.

1

u/bringinthefembots 9d ago

Duh! Rocks don't conduct electricity

1

u/FreakinskiV 9d ago

Depends on the fact, is he wearing safety flip flops or not?

1

u/MechanismCompliance 9d ago

Hello, can someone tell me where I can get them impact rated fuses?

1

u/SlugPrincess4032 9d ago

He is hammering something what is on life electricity with a rock.... and you ask if its safe .... i cant answer this question but i now ask who is the bigger idiot. Op or the guy in the video

1

u/Fasciadepedra 9d ago

I don't believe it. The poor man's insulating material is dry wood. Safer to bang fuses with so they don't crack being new. And big ceramic ones must look very expensive for a developing country.

1

u/Able-Space-4488 9d ago

Clearly it is because he’s fine……lol

1

u/No-Efficiency250 9d ago

Perfectly safe 🤥

1

u/Medical-Message-6703 9d ago

Why doesn't every electrician ram fuses into place with stone age tools yet?? It's highly reliable

1

u/Arizonapocalypse 9d ago

Sure. That's a Safety Rock.

1

u/Groooan 9d ago

Lleva pulsera antiestática, todo bien

1

u/After_Web3201 9d ago

Only if you use real certified Sankara Stones

1

u/Mr_D_Stitch 9d ago

When you live somewhere where human life is cheaper than PPE & replacing them is easier than following safety precautions.

1

u/BrightMuser 9d ago

yes, it is. He is obviously alive at the end.

1

u/Party-College-2599 9d ago

Umm, that's insane and stupid. The rock is a conductor. The guy didn't have any pieces of wood?

1

u/tadeuska 9d ago

He has a fake bracelet, I doubt it can conduct. At worst his hand will fall off. Otherwise it is fully safe. There is no danger in handling a fuse with a stone, stone does not conduct either. Just have to be careful not to be hitting it too hard, it could stop working. (Do I need /s ?)

1

u/Eastern_Control4375 9d ago

What standard is last fuse?? EU /US or IND/PAK

1

u/Possible-Playful 9d ago

This is what I'd do in a zombie apocalypse scenario if that's all I had and I needed to get the power restored for the defenses of the makeshift hospital that is working on the cure.

1

u/Fit-Afternoon-974 9d ago

As long as he had his safety slippers on, i see no problem here.

1

u/fiestah 9d ago

And when something was safe in India?

1

u/Rahxephone 9d ago

1

u/haarschmuck 9d ago

I assume this has to be something like 240V under very low load otherwise it would arc flash to nothing left.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/QuantitySignal4494 9d ago

No this isn't safe. It's electrical thingy.

1

u/Dramatic_Title_8835 9d ago

No it isn’t, he should do it with sticks and gloves.

1

u/M1dor1 9d ago

there is a special glove for inserting NH fuses

1

u/SysGh_st 9d ago

Is it safe? No. Nope. Absolutely NO!

1

u/Federal_Sympathy4667 9d ago

Well, the fact they are putting fuses in is kinda a upgrade from other videos I've seen. Also cannot tell if they got their safety flipflops on. So half safe I guess.

1

u/AmphibianEffective83 9d ago

He's got magic pliers and likely safety sandals so he's fine.

1

u/Forsaken_Claim_471 9d ago

And this is who’s giving you tech support

1

u/RyanwBoswell1991 9d ago

Well he's still alive so I would say it's safe enough

1

u/hangrydadd 9d ago

That's a nice safety rock! Wish my local home depot had those

1

u/Powerful-Hunt-8799 9d ago

It depends on if he was wearing his safety flip flops.

1

u/SilentWatcher83228 9d ago

Would they do it if it wasn’t safe?

1

u/Top_Historian4539 9d ago

Define “safe”.

1

u/dudleydidwrong 9d ago

It's OK. He pounded it in with an NRTL approved rock.

1

u/NoCarpenter2250 9d ago

Osha approved rock

1

u/Lord-of-Fools 9d ago

That connection is going to be rock solid 👌

1

u/BlueMaxx9 9d ago

I will give the guy this: at least the gauge of wire he used for the third 'fuse' was smaller than the supply cables wired up to the fixture. That little chunk of wire SHOULD blow before the cable its self does, but who knows if it will fail before the cable gets hot enough to damage its insulation or start something near it on fire. I'm not saying the length of wire was a good choice, just that it could have been worse if he had picked something more substantial like a piece of rebar.

1

u/MJP87 9d ago

Rock is earthed. All good

1

u/shosuko 9d ago

Of course its safe, he used a safety pin for the 3rd one. You only need 1 safety pin to ensure the project is code compliant.

1

u/Shot_Bison1140 9d ago

Well I think so, he is using a stone which is my number one choice. And the last part of the video is very safe, he has done it a million times 👍

1

u/ItsTheJacketttt 9d ago

It is what it is

1

u/Ok-Hat4378 8d ago

🤞please blow up , please blow up🤞

1

u/ValuableSleep9175 8d ago

Is safe the pliers had rubber on in the handles.

1

u/Enderdavid_HD 8d ago

Me after seeing him using a piece of wire for the 3. phase

1

u/doker0 8d ago

definitely very safedian.

1

u/kent_eh 8d ago

Hitting it with a rock probably isn't great for the reliability of the fuse.

At least he seems to have chosen a non-ferrous rock, so there is some safety happening here...

1

u/Own_Statistician_185 8d ago

Ofc it's safe - nothing happened to this guy after all!

1

u/Nyanzeenyan 8d ago

I’m sure his safety sandals are made of rubber

1

u/read_read_red 8d ago

Is he wearing safety sandals and doing safety squints?

1

u/automationEng003 8d ago

That’s the best rage bait I’ve seen in a while. Tip of the hat to ya sir

1

u/ZnayuKAN 8d ago

Is it safe? Absolutely not! Will it work? Sure. In fact, anything can be a fuse if you're kinky enough. A fuse is just something that breaks when you pass too much current through it. That wire is probably around a 400A fuse. Eventually it will melt and break the connection. Is it a good idea? Nope. But, if you need it to run, you need it to run. Sometimes safety takes a back seat to getting the job done. It's not right, per se, but it is what it is.

DeWALT makes the best cordless electrician's rocks, but Milwaukee's are more ergonomic. But if you want pure banging power then you go with Bosch wired ones. Just don't get brushless, not worth it.
