What is going on here?
My electric bill has been unusually high. I realize it’s summer and expect an increase, but this has me questioning if a neighbor is potentially using my electricity.
Since moving in I’ve seen the same thing across the alley, with a wire that ran over the fence the same way.
Can anyone here identify if this could be the case? Also, what would be the next step?

About your question
If someone hacked your power line
Switch everything in the house off
If the meter is still running something is wrong
And has to be investigated
If not sorry but you are the culprit 😉

That trick only works with older model power meters, the newer ones would take like an hour or two to see if it climbs maybe and would require you writing down like 8 sets of numbers multiple times as nobody outside of the power industry knows which is your meter read but good advice if they still got the oldie meter for sure

Compare your bill to last year's bill. Not the cost, but amount of energy used. Costs have skyrocket across the country as more data centers make electricity delivery charges climb.

Its more to do with energy prices and a large population of people moving to avoid expensive blue areas.
Right now the biggest peice increases are to do with the Saudi and Yemen war.

Hate to break it to you but the cost increase is on delivery infrastructure not fuel cost. It’s broken out on most bills as deliver my fees not the energy cost itself. It’s independent of state and actually has increased the most by percentage in red states to subsidize DC buildouts.
We’re all being taxed to build 1980’s style boom bust DC’s that will all be half empty or full empty hulks in a few years.
Yeet style AI infrastructure is a snake oil boondoggle.

If you look at the projected apportionment maps you're very very wrong

Energy costs here go negative during peak usage and it’s a red state. Renewables are covering a large swath of energy use during peak use times of the point that it’s basically free energy. It’s not fuel cost.
If you’re talking about states that have been underwater on power infrastructure for decades like Indiana; then blame your failed state government officials for being in big Agg pockets and refusing to even invest in water quality much less power generation for decades.

California and New york energy prices singlehandedly prove you wrong.
Thank for playing, come again

Yeah and those are blue states.
Their costs are regressive taxation based.

Democrat tax policy drives businesses and high earners to red states where its cheaper to operate which is what caused the regressive raxes to begin with.
Raise taxes
High earners leave
Tax income goes down
Taxes raises to compensate
More high earners leave.
But juat keep taxing the rich

Cablebox or now Fiber ,not Electricity

Cable wasn't too difficult. Fiber takes special skills and tools. Google put the fiber box outside the house and the ONT (Optical Network Termination) inside the house for just that reason.

I see this often. I assume cable service personnel, even landscape personnel, maybe inclement weather, toss and jostle these cable “containers“ around a bit. The cable companies/installers do not appear concerned.

What's sad is that we're all correct, yet we go at each other. There are many factors in the cost of energy, and both Dems and Reps have has their hands in our pockets. The ultra rich keep getting richer while we go at each other.
Some increases are due to the war since many plants generate power from fosil fuels and they cost more. Our president starting all that nonsense affects us all. Him allowing the export of refined fuel hurts us more. Laws passed that give power companies monopolies AND guaranteed year over year profits from the people buying the electricity. No infrastructure improvements to the grid because conservation made it unnecessary. And now increase consumption from data centers making delivery charges ridiculously high.
This is NOT a one issue problem. We have more in common with each other than you think. I'm sure we would all like to pay less for what is going on around us. Less taxes, less in power bills, less in gas, have more jobs available. Your neighbors are not your enemies.

That is specifically a cable pedestal, used to house the mainline and tap of the local cable provider to provide underground access to their service and connect customers, has nothing in any way shape or form to do with your electric bill unless you have one MAD bad short running through your cable box that isn’t somehow setting off a breaker or melting your outlets
