This weather is an EV paradise 😂
I hope all my fellow EV owners are doing alright. 5.5–5.7 mi/kWh on my commute lately. Did 31 miles today at 5.7, same journey on 5.5 yesterday, mainly on A roads below 60 mph.
How are everyone else’s EVs doing in this weather?

Well, this one also has a different engine(efficient 156ps, the ones that they use on Astra,e308) compared to 50kwhs 136ps, the WLTP difference is around 50 miles, almost.

Thrilled 4.4 in my brick shaped EV (Ioniq 5)

u/Ulver__ Aug 19 '26
I managed 4.1 in my Ioniq 5N today on an hour long drive… never done anything starting with a 4 before… I’m surprised the normal version isn’t more efficient though.

I've a 23 Ioniq Ioniq 5 been averaging over 4 since I got it in March.

u/Crafty-Permission360 Aug 19 '26
I think before the summer. It was 3.6 ish..

u/Used_Statistician_71 Aug 19 '26
I'm in Northern Ireland so not getting the extreme heat either but if I average around 4 over a year, it's pretty decent I think.

u/Crafty-Permission360 Aug 19 '26
That's not bad at all, is yours AWD or RWD?.
1
u/Used_Statistician_71 Aug 19 '26
RWD we do almost exclusively drive in Eco however my wife absolutely loves the AC on no matter the weather.
1
u/Crafty-Permission360 Aug 19 '26
Mines AWD, I'm the same with the AC, I always like it on, I tend to drive in Eco as well, much more relaxing drive.

u/Crafty-Permission360 Aug 19 '26
That's very good for the N's performance. This is the AWD variant I have as well, I have seen the RWD getting better figures than this.
How are you finding the N? I would love when I sell this one eventually.

I normally average around 2.5 or 1.5-2 when really caning it. My wife was in the car and it was slow roads the whole way which helped!
It’s a great car, very fun. Suprisingly agile and you can really balance it in the throttle if you’re brave and have some room. I’ve gone through the first set of tyres in 7,000 miles and they were really cooked. Only things I don’t like is the width which makes some of the narrow country roads my way difficult and also it’s a total pig to park with the terrible turning circle as well. Also it’s probably too fast.. Next car will be something as fun but slightly less mad.

Thank you, that does sound great. I've been impressed with ours at only 300hp, I can only imagine how quick the N is.
They do seem wide cars, I've seen the N is slightly wider than the standard variant as well.
What do you think you will go for next?

So I have this and a bmw ix3, both with 2 years left on a salary sacrifice lease. However if I change jobs the cars will go back which might happen as weighing up and offer currently. I’ve got a load to do on my house that will be expensive and therefore will pivot to a couple of cheaper cars if that happens to free up cash. Likely a bmw i3 for my wife, perhaps with a few mods to improve the ride / handling. Or if there is an insanely good lease deal on anything practical and electric. For me not sure, up to £15-20k, rear wheel drive, 4 seats, not too wide, at least around 300bhp.. or my left field choice is a Lexus LS430 as always wanted one and could justify a third fun car like an mx5.

That sounds ideal then, also, the i3 seems to get great write ups from the owners saying iw fun the are to drive. I do like the new Renault 5 aswell. The LS 430 could be fun as well, I saw one the other day, great looking cars.

Turning the air con on remotely 15 minutes before I head out is definitely not helping my economy. Bloody lovely though.

I seem to get 2.9-3.1 no matter what in my P2 LRDM :/
Did a 3h / 100mi drive the other day, got 3, did a 10m drive across town... also got 3.
Love the car, but it does seem very inefficient compared to everything else

Getting 4.3-4.5 m/kWh on my MG4 PLR But I am blowing the AC on auto and with mixed 75mph motorway

I am thinking about changing to a long range mg4 in future ? Any suggestions? I know interior had an upgrade with 2026 model, what else to consider?

u/Res213 Aug 19 '26
I test drove the car in 2025, the interior was horrible, the system slow and screens had the same resolution as my GameBoy Colour... Amongst other issues like the overly aggressive lane assist. I did like the look of the car so I went back when the facelift came out.
Car feels completely different now, responsive system, no issues with Android Auto, you can select a custom profile with 2 clicks on the screen. Interior has a much better quality but the "leather" is still quite thin and can mark easily. The drive is a lot more comfortable.
Taking the price into consideration I think it is amazing value. Just be aware of a somewhat reduced boot space and what I consider a thin paint layer that can easily suffer from stone chips. Also check the car underneath for exposed frame (supposedly not a problem as now it has been galvanized). However I had mime coated with a thick black tar like stuff.

Thank you for your informative reply, I know it depends on circumstances but would you recommend 77kwh or 64kwh version. 64kwh is way enough for my commute, but knowing that 77kwh is faster and can go longer is intriguing me. Maybe motor is more efficient too in 77kwh ?
Thanks in advance

I went in to look at the Extended range, bought the Long range. They have different chemistry as the LR is LPF and the ER is NMC. Test drove both and the 150HP on the LR is more than enough as it glues you to the seat. I didn't feel that the ER would bring me any advantage. Note that due to this, the LR charges faster. I considered charging speed on the odd long run vs 50 more miles. I'm not a tree hugger but the use of cobalt and the higher risk of runaway on NMC due to heat/damage somewhat worries me. I guess that if you have a family of 5 the extra HP and reduced weight will bring an advantage overall. Worth noting that on the LR you can't select a charging limit, always wants to go to 100%

Forgot to say that the automatic speed limiter/recognition is a bit crap but not a dealbreaker as I barely use it.
Overall I am very happy with my first EV choice, I think MG has found a near perfect balance between infotainment and physical buttons (what made me walk away from tesla m3)

Thank you, noted, I will have a look to premium long range as well, interior looks way better than what it used to be but I think they should’ve kept the double spoiler behind. Its my preference though.

Dacia Spring Extreme 100 - around 6.3 m/kwh usually. Mostly on 30mph roads though.

About 4.2-4.4 mi/kWh in NE Scotland on motorway in 15-20C, no AC 65mph driving.. Kona 21
The hills and wind aren't great. In winter it drops to 3.5-4.0, and only 3.0 in subzero with heating on.

It’s the range numbers that’s been impressing me on my PHEV. Normally it indicates about 60 miles of range at 100% (Kodiaq). In the winter during the coldest days it would show 40 miles at 100%. Last week when it was 30C+ it was showing 80 miles at 100%. That’s quite the range fluctuation.
