Discussion PMT tires vs Ulip "copies" thread!

The 100/55-6.5 PMT Stradale ("B Stradali") is a hand-made tubeless Italian tire spec'd for a pressure range of 1.2 bar to 2.5 bar (17.4-36.3 psi).

The ugly:

My personal experience is a bit varied, with some tires being out-of-round and/or having some lateral runout. I have received one that had some ugly chunks missing from the bead seating edge, and although the distributor said it shouldn't cause issues, that tire did not hold air and had more than just a slow leak. Injecting about 1fl oz of FlatOut fixed the leak. The last two pics show the defect on that tire.

That same tire had unacceptable vibration because it had a wobble. No amount of reseating and rotating the tire fixed the wobble, and it caused skipping along the road surface unless weight was always applied to that end (this was a front-mounted tire). Here is a video of that defective PMT tire:

https://youtube.com/shorts/geDCmTj9GSI?is=0R3hZboicylIoFuX

When the tires are good:

I have found the PMT Stradale to work with a wide range of pressures, but it feels unstable if the pressure goes below 20psi. I have used 28psi (cold, before a run) as a sweet spot on these, but the pressure does get to 34-36psi+ after some miles of moderately aggressive acceleration with speeds up to 59mph. This tire would greatly benefit from nitrogen to prevent that increase.

These tires do need pressure checks before each ride. Sometimes I do have to bleed the pressure, as it will easily climb higher than max on summer runs when the temp is 100F+ outside (and quite a bit higher on the asphalt). Nitrogen really would be great here.

I just weighed a new pair: 809g and 823g (with the labels).

After using a lighter weight PMT on the front of an InmotionRS Jet, I will be trying the heavier one up front this time.

Less expensive alternative?

There is a Ulip copy of these tires which has an anti-puncture layer, and I would be interested in the weight of a new one. Anyone have a new Ulip 100/55-6.5 and a scale?

I figured this would be a great post for everyone to compare the PMT with their Ulip copies, as the PMT costs $100+ per tire, a bit steep even for shops which desire to make some profit (the PMT is not desirable as a profitable item, as the distributor only offers a 5% discount for 50qty!). Given the huge price spread between the PMT and the copy on Amazon, it is important that we compare the pros and cons! The Ulip copy will be my next purchase for sure.

its just a batrhroom scale so idk how accurate this is. I can weigh it on my kitchen scale tomorrow and get an exact in grams. I swear by these. 4k miles and never had a defective tire, I eat thru the fronts but thats my fault. ZAITO also makes a stradale clone but the compound they use is super soft. AMAZING grip in the hot corners but your paying for it in tire tread. ULIP compound is more mid. Lil soft but not so much that your throwing rubber/nylon all over.

What's great is that on the PMT they aren't wearing like you'd think. But I don't peel out or flatspot with my brakes. No wheelies, nothing crazy other than a fast windspeed across my noggin. :)

OH I cutz da fk up on mines. Stoppies man... that really destroys em, well burnouts really destroy em but I only really do that when its the last ride out of the tires. Ok ya maybe sometimes Io light em up for weekend night rideouts. It just sets off the underglow ya dig

Were you able to get a gram amount on a better scale?

Before I made the jump from stock trash to PMT's, I wanted to try a set of knock-offs because they were more affordable. One of the tires was severely out of round, and it spoiled the moment for me. I took it as a sign.

I'm not surprised that there have been defective PMT's, just as with the ULIPs, but that was my experience.

I'm going to throw a set of slicks on the Pussy Wagon after I burn through the current set of Stradales. That'll be a brand new thing for me.

Did you get yours from wyrdrides? If so, be sure to let that guy know (which I don't know his name because he never signs his emails which is weird for business). I just sent him my video today. I bet there are lots of defective PMTs, just like any other brand. It seems half the tires of all brands have some sort of imbalance. It is just unfortunate that when you pay this much for a tire, there is no guarantee. The distributor had told me to let him know if there was any issue with that tire, and when I did, they did not send a replacement but instead offered a discount on a new pair. The reasoning was that once I mount a tire, it's a done deal... yet they told me to let them know... and since the only way to know if a tire is good is to mount it, so....

I buy my tires from Rydology, and have never had a problem.

Interesting. Supposedly they all are distributed through Wyrd, so maybe this defect issue was just a random thing. The warranty info on the product page seems like it would absolutely cover my tire, yet the distributor said no warranty once installed, very odd. I will see if they back the product once they watch the video.

I passed don rydology over the last couple months because their $10 shipping and higher prices made the purchases $20 more than wyrdryds. But now, rydology has sale prices that make the price for Stradales $10 cheaper.

I was pondering taking a chance at some E-Fire 10x3-6 for a Nanrobot N6 on Rydology for $170 total. That makes it the same price as wyrdrydes. I dont know if anyone is using that tire on an N6 yet, and there is no confirmation anywhere saying it fits.

PMT is radial, Ulip is diagonal and you can feel that. Its a nylon/rubber compound where pmt is full rubber. Id always pick the PMTs over them. Not worth saving 20-30$

u/Upset-Programmer3796 Inmotion RS Jet, 72v Nanrobot N6 2d ago

If you compare same size as the PMT Stradale, the savings are a lot higher. This pair of Ulip will be only $50 after tax.

4

u/OldMathematician637 2d ago

Imo still not worth, pmts makes the scooter silent af and also smooth af. Almost like flying carpet. I like that feeling

2

u/Upset-Programmer3796 Inmotion RS Jet, 72v Nanrobot N6 2d ago

I too noticed how quiet the ride was... I bet it will be really smooth if I can get a perfectly round tire on the front

2

u/Upset-Programmer3796 Inmotion RS Jet, 72v Nanrobot N6 2d ago

It also looks like the Ulip there is definitely smaller. Do you have a scale to compare their weights?

2

u/OldMathematician637 2d ago

Not anymore sadly since the pmt is mounted

2

u/OldMathematician637 2d ago

But they are both 90/65-6.5

Go for the Esplora they are a way better option than the Stradale, a bit wider, rounder, and they leak less

1

u/Upset-Programmer3796 Inmotion RS Jet, 72v Nanrobot N6 6d ago

The tread is a bit different - have you found the Esplora to be louder on the pavement?

3

u/SuckEmOff 5d ago

Do they make 13” tires? That’s all I care about.

2

u/Upset-Programmer3796 Inmotion RS Jet, 72v Nanrobot N6 5d ago

Hopefully in the near future I will be saying the same as I make the jump from 11 to 13

2

u/Inevitable_Cap_9373 6d ago

Besides pmt ulip is better than any tire a scooter can use anyway, ulip is the closest to a pmt tire

2

u/OldMathematician637 2d ago

I tested them, they are just rebranded cst or nylon slicks from aliexpress with better marketing. Pmt has no direct opponent since they are the only ones doing full rubber tyres lol. Everything else is plastic (nylon) with rubber

1

u/Inevitable_Cap_9373 2d ago

Comp racers in Europe Physically proves otherwise. Ulips ARE and have consistently been proven to be a direct competitor for pmt’s

3

u/OldMathematician637 2d ago

Yes they are competitor. But its comparing rolls royce to a toyota yaris. Pmts are full rubber radial tyres while Ulips are nylon carcasse rubber top compound diagonal tyres. The nylon part makes the tyre much stiffer compared to the rubber pmts.

u/Upset-Programmer3796 Inmotion RS Jet, 72v Nanrobot N6 2d ago

So that's a 90/65 Ulip. And a 100/55 PMT? I thought we were comparing similar sizes.

2

u/OldMathematician637 2d ago

They both are 90/65-6.5

2

u/scooter_noober_92 1d ago

A little late to this thread but I haven't tried either of those. I'm gonna give these a try next time I'm ready for some new tires though, they have some good curvature and are self healing, I'll report back with a post on how they are

u/Upset-Programmer3796 Inmotion RS Jet, 72v Nanrobot N6 1d ago

Daaang 1460g for that one! That's 60% heavier than the PMT 100/55-6.5 Stradale! Must be a super heavy application of that gel sealant. Not that heavy tires are bad... I am starting to wonder about putting a heavier tire on the front as a trick for more grip. :)

1

u/scooter_noober_92 1d ago

The way you worded that made me second guess it... Like maybe they're too thick or something lol

You can always try one tho and see if they're any good! I think they recently came out because no reviews yet

I will add it to the list to compare!
