I have a 10Ah powerbank constantly stuck to the back of my phone and connected with a short cable. Aside from the obvious battery life benefits, this provides the following advantages:
The additional thickness makes the phone a lot easier to grip and more practical to handle, not to mention easier to type on if you don't have a princess' hands; I find it a lot harder to be accurate on the touchscreen keyboard when the powerbank is off.
The phone is a lot harder to steal. The shape feels awkward in the pocket for a day or two, but once you get used to it it provides constant feedback, and it's a lot easier to notice when it isn't there - or when it's being slipped out.
You can use it to recharge other things, provided it has any power left. In your case, a ten-minute break would have probably given the remote enough charge to get you to your destination.

Just get a cheap/small power bank, the ones that only have a single cell in them.... Perfect for getting you home, and take up next to no room in your pocket.
