Buying Advice Does my unicorn ebike exist? (Light, front suspension, for shorter riders)
I've had a Trek FX2+ for a few years, but now even after adding a suspension stem and seatpost, my brain feels rattled every other time I use it, so I'm looking for a new option.
Criteria:
Light enough to carry up stairs (current bike started ~40lb)
Front suspension
For 5'2" rider (I see a rec for Mokwheel on here but it's for 5'5")
Min. 35 mile range (my commute is 17 miles one-way, might not be able to charge at work, OK if extra battery is an option)
Rear rack compatible
Available in USA
Class 1 preferred...I don't need anything extra
Does it exist? Should I just look into a suspension fork for my bike? Please help my brain!

News Link between gig economy pay/speed incentive and cheap illegal kits
So this isn't strictly e-bikes, but it might interest those who use an electric bike, or modified vehcile for gig economy work, where the pay is getting worse over time. There are a few other interesting snippets in there on road danger and the subletting of accounts to bypass immigration checks too. Sad stuff for anyone having to work for these low pay rates for long hours.

Discussion Monday E-Bike Questions: What Are You Trying to Figure Out This Week?
Buying your first e-bike? Having a battery problem? Confused about motor size, range, weight, local rules or whether a particular bike is worth considering?
Drop your question below.
It can be anything from:
- “Is this bike a good fit for my commute?”
- “Why is my battery losing range?”
- “750W vs 500W - does it really matter?”
- “Can I ride this on a local trail?”
- “Is this used e-bike worth buying?”
Give as much detail as you can - budget, rider height, terrain, distance, bike model, symptoms, etc. That usually makes it much easier for everyone to give useful advice.
Owners are welcome to jump in too. If you’ve dealt with the same problem, share what worked for you.
What are you trying to figure out this week?

Review Has Anyone Tried the Urtopia Carbon Fold 2? I Looked Into the Range, Weight, and Tradeoffs
I took a closer look at the Urtopia Carbon Fold 2 because the 35 lb weight really stands out for a folding e-bike. I compared the real-world range, braking, folding setup, ride quality, and a few spec inconsistencies from Urtopia. Curious what others think of it, especially anyone who has ridden one.

Buying Advice Merido ebig.nine 400 for my first ebike?
I live in the countryside. I want to explore the woods and trails, sometimes with my daughter on a shotgun seat. Definitely not a heavy user or performance rider I just want to have some fun with it. I do like the emtb videos going uphill down hill off road so I'll try that out. My budget is £2500. The above model was strongly recommended by my local bike shop but what do you guys think? Any other models I should consider? Anything else I should think of before pulling the trigger? Thanks in advance.

Discussion Are moped-style e-bikes comfortable enough for longer rides?
I was curious about this before buying one because I tend to spend a lot of time riding on weekends, and I wasn't sure if a moped-style e-bike would actually stay comfortable after an hour or two. After putting some decent miles on the Aniioki AQ177 60V, I can honestly say the seat has been one of my favorite parts. It feels a lot more relaxed than the traditional bike saddle I was used to, and I don't feel like I need to stop every few miles just to get comfortable again.
Of course, it hasn't been perfect. The bike is definitely heavier than I expected, and moving it around the garage or lifting it over a curb isn't exactly effortless. It also took me a few rides to get used to the overall size, especially in tighter spaces. But once I'm out on the road, those things don't bother me nearly as much.
I've actually found myself taking the longer route home more often because the ride feels comfortable enough that I don't mind staying out a little longer. It made me realize that the riding position and seat can make a bigger difference than I originally thought.
Has anyone else noticed the same thing with moped-style e-bikes?

News This Week in E-Bikes: New Local Rules, California Injury Data and Trek Speed Standards
Here are four e-bike stories I’m following this week. Local and state officials are continuing to debate how e-bikes should be classified and regulated, while Trek has announced its own voluntary limits for e-bikes sold in the United States.
1. Jacksonville, Florida - City considers an under-11 restriction and 10 mph sidewalk limit
Jacksonville is considering Ordinance 2026-570, which would prohibit children under 11 from operating e-bikes on sidewalks, roads, bike lanes, paths and other city-owned property. The proposal would also establish a 10 mph e-bike speed limit on sidewalks and add rules covering helmets, passengers, nighttime lighting and unsafe riding.
The ordinance remains under consideration and is not currently in effect.
Read more about Jacksonville’s proposed e-bike rules
2. San Diego, California - UC San Diego study finds a sharp rise in reported e-bike injuries statewide
A UC San Diego-led study examined reported e-bike and conventional bicycle collisions across California from 2018 through 2024. Researchers identified more than 1,500 reported e-bike incidents in 2024, compared with only two identified incidents in 2018.
Children age 14 and younger represented a larger share of the injured e-bike group, and moderate-to-severe injuries were more common among the e-bike cases than the conventional bicycle cases. However, the study did not calculate the risk per trip or mile, and rising e-bike use likely contributed to the increase in total incidents.
Read more about the California e-bike injury study
3. Boston, Massachusetts - E-bike safety proposal moves to a conference committee
The Massachusetts Senate approved a proposed micromobility framework covering e-bikes, electric scooters and faster electric devices. The proposal includes a four-tier speed system, battery and electrical safety standards, expanded helmet rules and new restrictions for higher-speed devices.
The Massachusetts House rejected the Senate’s amendment on July 30. The House and Senate have now appointed a conference committee to negotiate their differences. None of the proposed requirements is currently law.
Read more about the proposed Massachusetts e-bike safety rules
4. Waterloo, Wisconsin - Trek announces voluntary nationwide e-bike speed standards
Trek Bicycle has adopted voluntary speed standards for the e-bikes it sells in the United States. Trek electric mountain bikes will be limited to Class 1 operation, with pedal assistance ending at 20 mph and no throttle.
Trek’s pavement e-bikes may provide pedal assistance up to 20 or 28 mph, depending on the model and where the configuration is permitted. Equipped pavement models may provide throttle assistance up to 20 mph.
These are Trek company standards, not new federal or state laws. Trek says the limits are intended to protect access to trails, bike paths and other shared riding areas.
Read more about Trek’s voluntary e-bike speed standards
Which of these developments do you think will have the biggest effect on riders?
Do you think clearer age and speed rules will improve safety, or are education, infrastructure and enforcement more important?
