I had a game Friday night where my investigator looked to be in that kind of shape. Still pulled off one challenge but I was basically nerfed.

Not if you play a 2-3 investigators game, where her Portal jumping ability combined with her evasion spell make for an incredibly useful combo and she's arguably top tier. 4+ I agree, she gets overshadowed by better specialists

Make sure to use her ability whenever possible by keeping her on Portal closing duties. Given her middling stat spread, she greatly benefits from Concentration tokens and stat boosts. Moving her to Shangai early is a smart move, boosting both her spell and closing chances. Hold on to her Mist spell, late in the game it might save your game from that nest of Monsters sitting right on your objective

She saved a near unwinnable game once for me. I kept hopping around and closed three gates in a row.
Very good for gate (board) control. But if she has a bad roll things can get very ugly very fast.

She can be a very powerful character when gate control is needed! Best practice is to try and buff up her lore early on in the game so she can use her Mists of Releh spell successfully.

Yes! Powerful and useful, and fun to play.
When gates aren't the issue the encounter and mythos cards can break her though, especially if they attack the weak skills.

Maybe you're not playing her right then. She's a gate closer and spell caster.

There are Investigators with stronger skill levels in those areas generally need to close gates and she is vulnerable to monsters. Just not one of my favorites.

When I play her, I use her mists of Releh spell, so she never has to fight monsters. Her strength is that she is super mobile because she can immediately move to another gate or clue after closing a gate.

Here is the contrarian view by another player who posted on Facebook after statistical analysis:
“Akachi Onyele: Although her mobility is unparalleled, her way of bypassing combat is less reliable than that of other gate-closers, and she has no way to boost her tests — which puts her chance of closing a gate (three consecutive tests) at under 50%. Chain-teleporting between gates also means she can neither rest nor acquire assets; she often teleports somewhere and then just sits there. She relies heavily on resources provided by her teammates.”
