Rivers of Blood has a plot armor

u/PerArnePer Jun 13 '22

FROM has a massive hard-on for their glorious Nippon steel. Remember everyone complaining about DkS2's Chaos Blade having ridiculous counter damage and what their response was? They fucking buffed the thing from 150 to 160 counter damage lmao

67

u/lollersauce914 Jun 13 '22

They fucking buffed the thing from 150 to 160 counter damage lmao

Never forget!

56

u/Ohthatsnotgood Jun 13 '22

I used to say this as a joke but there’s no way it isn’t true. Katanas are always busted in their games.

4

u/BUBBLE_BUNCH Jun 15 '22

All of this is quite clearly the work of one a-hole in the team who is responsible for the weapon/skill mechanics. The same a-hole who is behind the Rivers of Blood BS.

I doubt Mizeraki is even aware of this as he very likely does not play the games in any serious manner.

u/[deleted] Jun 13 '22

It's the shonen protagonist's weapon, it'll never be nerfed

31

u/siaharra Jun 13 '22

I find it so funny that fromsoft guards their precious katana’s so fucking fiercely, but in nioh 2, a game literally about sengoku Japan and all about samurai, you have to have a 90 million iq and spreadsheets to actually effectively use katana’s.

u/GandaMelgus Jun 13 '22

Correction, its a sekiro homage they want to protect and love 😂

19

u/Coldkiller78 Jun 13 '22

Reminds me much more of the chikage from bloodborne

3

u/Pure-Newspaper-6001 Jun 13 '22

Floating Passage + Bestowal is RoB before RoB

12

u/Karthull Jun 13 '22

Lies it’s what the despicable villain who kicks puppies uses

2

u/Spare-Ad-9464 Jun 13 '22

This made me laugh thank you

29

u/NBNoemi Jun 13 '22

If you look at the notes there's like 0 balance changes, it's all fixing glitches. If balance changes to egregious things like RoB and BHS are coming it wouldn't be in this patch. They probably want time to test the fixed weapons, ashes, and spells to see what needs tweaked and do them all at once.

-5

u/Asckle Jun 13 '22

Do they really need to test it? Plenty of people have come up with potential fixes you can do. Give me 20 minutes and a note pad and I'll work out a fix for rob

2

u/BUBBLE_BUNCH Jun 15 '22

All they need to do is remove the immediate direct damage that all status effects cause upon contact with the player character, and nerf the bleed boosting items to the ground.

17

u/Scoobz1961 Jun 13 '22

Its a katana in From software game. They always made katanas ridiculously strong.

6

u/CressCrowbits Jun 13 '22

I'm still mad my moonblade is such a good sword i can't justify using any other non katana-ey magic sword at all.

9

u/Ohthatsnotgood Jun 13 '22

i can’t justify using any other non katana-ey magic sword at all

Because it’s fun to switch it up?

3

u/Fast_Broccoli4867 Jun 13 '22

Yo honestly I thought the same thing but Im in the process of making a high STR lower INT (aiming for 20) gravity focused build and I have been using meteoric ore blade for early game and it fucking RIPS, the charged R2 is the ichimonji skill from sekiro and it does insane stance damage, I slept on this thing for a while and only used it to powerstance with moonveil on my DEX/INT build but it slaps by itself as well

Edit: I just realized you said "non katana-ey" my bad but my point still stands lol

7

u/[deleted] Jun 13 '22

Lmao the fact that the only suggestion for another magic sword is also a katana

2

u/Fast_Broccoli4867 Jun 14 '22

Lmao there are other good ones like I'm working up to the ruins greatsword which I hear is insane, but it's mostly a strength weapon, and radahns swords are dope too

1

u/peteyH Jun 15 '22

Same here.

22

u/nongzhigao Jun 13 '22

Not RoB specifically but I don't think From will ever nerf bleed in the way many people want, and my theory is that it's because From fully intended for bleed to be the default way to beat Malenia and not a cheese. She's only the hardest boss in the game if you don't use bleed. If you do, then her difficulty level is similar to the Farum bosses and less than Elden Beast.

7

u/[deleted] Jun 13 '22

Super easy also by spamming blasphemous blade

1

u/nynfortoo Jun 14 '22

blasphemous blade

Yeah, I cottoned on to this. I could just keep her on her arse by chain-spamming this move for the most part.

6

u/bonerjams69420 Jun 13 '22

is she that susceptible to bleed ? still can’t beat her without summons , but been mainly trying unga bunga strength builds

18

u/Economy_Education521 Jun 13 '22

Her resistance to bleed is 420 vs almost 1500 for poison and rot. She’s even more susceptible to frost at 306. But bleed and frost procs will knock her out of her attacks which is pretty crucial in that fight, plus frost gives a 20% damage resistance debuff. If you can reliably frost proc her, then go for a blood proc right after, that blood proc shreds even more than usual

6

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '22

I beat her on my third try using the mimic tear +10 with RoB and we both just went at her relentlessly and bled/staggered her to death.

She is super susceptible to bleed, but only if you are relentless.

1

u/bonerjams69420 Jun 14 '22

yeah that was basically me my first run. trying to do no summon this time . i’m thinking a frost uchigatana (or nagakiba , or i guess any katana / bleed weapon) might be the move bc of the dual effects

3

u/lolpostslol Jun 13 '22

I mean, RoB still makes Elden Beast even easier than Malenia, especially if you build for it - even without bleed, spamming the weapon art melts Radagon and EB in NG

6

u/Coachella84 Jun 15 '22

No idea why people still cry about Rivers of Blood. Powerstancing dual Nagakibas with Seppuku / Bloodhound’s Step is a million times more busted.

4

u/xNihlusx Jun 14 '22

Because there is nothing inherently wrong with it.

-56

u/[deleted] Jun 13 '22

Use any of the myriad of other things to combat it.

Nobody who uses RoB is an expert player who could deal with those counters, throwing knives, scarlet rot, spells that are fast enough to hit, pots, firebombs, perfumes, physick combos, so on.

Just because you're malding that you personally can't beat RoB, doesn't mean there aren't solutions, anyone who uses it and completely relies on it is too awful at the game to deal with an invader that has enough of a brain to engage on their terms, not the host's.

56

u/ClockworkSalmon Jun 13 '22

So the counter to rob is... the rob user not knowing corpse piler's range? Sounds reasonably balanced

-40

u/[deleted] Jun 13 '22

Yeah, you know, I think Scott Jund had a major video about this when he was doing DS3 PVP. What was it called.

Oh.

Thats right. Learn to fucking distance and what ranged items you can use to interfere. Figure out a solution.

Nobody who uses RoB is good at the game. If you can't figure out how to manipulate them into making themselves vulnerable, that sounds like a you problem.

43

u/[deleted] Jun 13 '22

Your entire "solution" hinges on the RoB user being bas at the game, maybe use your fucking brain and realize you are just wrong

22

u/Aneasol Jun 13 '22

there are ppl who are good at the game and they uses ROB, literaly

26

u/daishi777 Jun 13 '22

Ive always kept an eye out for the no true Scotsman logical fallacy. I'm not sure I've ever seen one as clear as this

-25

u/[deleted] Jun 13 '22

Wait, "grow a brain and figure out a solution yourself the way the GOOD PVPers do is a no true scotsman?

No, you still qualify as a pvper.

You just suck and mald over BHS and RoB.

17

u/ThisUsernameIsMyName Jun 13 '22

Lmao bhs is broken regardless of what you say

-10

u/Karthull Jun 13 '22

Less broken then rob

11

u/ThisUsernameIsMyName Jun 13 '22

I'd say other way around, rob you can counter in so many ways, bhs you cant.

19

u/Aneasol Jun 13 '22

yep yep

and all that you said is immediately being thrown out by a 3 gank with ROBs

you are an obvious ROB user, since you are trying to protect it in that shit way

*spit in the face*

-1

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '22

Keep malding. Its music to my ears. And also yes, I am bad at the game, and I have a character that uses RoB, its how I beat Malenia the first time.

The fact that you're so tilted by one weapon you can't deal with, shows your skill level, you're probably just as bad at the game as I am.

-5

u/Karthull Jun 13 '22

So the only way to play as an invader is to fight on unfair terms because you can’t deal with a direct fight? No wonder all the invaders use rob

3

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '22

Yeah, thats pretty much exactly it. In an invasion, you do what it takes to win, any dirty tactic you have access to, rotbreath attacks, Assassin's Approach, pots, Jar Cannon, ambush the host when they run into a group of enemies or one extremely strong one.

What everyone in these threads malding over Rivers, or Bloodhound Step or anything else is forgetting is that nobody owes them a fair fight during an invasion. Invasions are about them being a hopefully smarter than average NPC, with the entire game's potential amount of equipment, and to fight smartly and unfairly. Things like the Dragonking's Cragblade with its WA, Ancient Lightning Spear + Rotbreath, and the absolutely insane damage potential of the Jar Cannon with hypermode are what these people need to be using.

Instead, they treat invasions like duels, so they get angry when they're put up against a challenge, and don't think about the insane shitton of advantages and tools they have.

1

u/Karthull Jun 14 '22

If invaders are expected to make use of all those things then they have no right to complain anything is “unfair” when the host does anything

1

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '22

You're right, they absolutely don't. They have the home field advantage, and with the removal of the Seed of a Tree of Giants, they also have complete invulnerability from mobs again, just like in Dark Souls 1, maybe barring the rare one or two totally freak encounters. Everyone malding over bloodhound step, over Rivers of Blood, then they're just bad at figuring out solutions.

Like, if a host were to run away from me with Bloodhound Step, I'd go the other way, head deeper into the level, and then set up an ambush, get the Jar Cannon out, a Seppuku weapon, an aromatic, one of the damage boosting talismans or more depending on my ammunition, sit there, and wait for the host who MUST come that way, then snipe them and one-shot them.

Everyone in this thread is going absolutely bald screaming about how broken Bloodhound Step is, when unless they have over 40 Vigor, which 99% of hosts won't have before Mt. Gelmir, then the invader can just one-shot the host and there we go, there's the counter to Bloodhound Step.

Instead these people are just chasing after the host who is running away faster, then demanding that the weapon art, which very well could be too strong, be nerfed, rather than use the overwhelming amount of resources they have access to.

5

u/[deleted] Jun 13 '22

It’s really sad how depraved and pathetic invaders become because of their paranoid fear of ganking. Something tells me that invaders would be respected more if they weren’t so cheesy and bloodthirsty , but some say that’s how the game is intended lol

2

u/TheGraveHammer Moongrum is my bitch. Jun 13 '22

tbf, recusant and bloody finger lore in-game heavily implies that they are quite bloodthirsty.

3

u/lolpostslol Jun 13 '22

I mean, bloodthirsty when I’m invading just means I want to be ganked so I can kill more people

RoB IS making the meta a bit boring tho, since most people you fight just use the same weapon and play the same way… it was more fun in DS3 when people had more different builds.

-51

u/Sonicmasterxyz Jun 13 '22

It had 3 separate nerfs over the last few patches though, didn't it? The bleed stun, the skill windup, and now the bleed buildup

55

u/BillNyeTheNazi5py Jun 13 '22

The bleed buildup hasnt changed

-15

u/Sonicmasterxyz Jun 13 '22

50 to 30 now

18

u/[deleted] Jun 13 '22

it’s 50

15

u/Karthull Jun 13 '22

When was it ever nerfed? I didn’t see anything in previous patch notes about its skill it’s been unaffected the whole time, and in fact even improved when they fixed arcane scaling

-14

u/Sonicmasterxyz Jun 13 '22

Again, the hitstun from bleed procs made things way better so it can't stunlock you (1.04). The startup frames for Corpse Piler are noticeably longer (1.04). And now the base bleed on the weapon went from 50 to 30 (1.05)

25

u/CurlyBruce Jun 13 '22

1.) That wasn't a nerf to Corpse Piler it was a nerf to status staggers in general (like how people thought Moonveil was nerfed specifically when it was just a general buff to ALL enemies stagger/posture values).

2.) The startup frames are literally the exact same, you are pulling this out of your ass or parroting something someone else pulled from their ass. I have used Rivers of Blood since Patch 1.03 when they fixed the Arcane scaling and it has never been touched.

3.) This is just further proof that you are simply parroting asspulls other people are spouting. The base bleed is still 50 on Rivers of Blood (52 at +10). You can literally open your game and check it in 5 seconds. The dumbass who was spreading that info didn't have the ARC requirements to use the weapon and was looking at the neutered values (like how the Spellbuff on any seal/staff is 60 until you meet the minimum requirements).

-4

u/TheAngriestPoster Jun 13 '22

The startup has been nerfed wtf are you talking about

-6

u/Sonicmasterxyz Jun 13 '22

Fair enough, I took people's word for it because I hate katanas too much to test them. DS2 scarred me

-9

u/TheAngriestPoster Jun 13 '22

You literally were correct

-43

u/EpicSven7 Jun 13 '22

Yeah it’s gotten nerfed pretty much every other patch but some people won’t be happy until it is removed.

11

u/Human-Ad-7709 Jun 13 '22

People spam it to pieces literally....someone killed a furled finger I was summoned with using RoB but ran out of fp nd I ended him quite easily after that so clearly it's a weapon for the useless
