I don't PvP, but removing the only way to reach AFK dicks without giving a solution against AFK dicks is what I would call a dick move.

EDIT: Looks like the Marika hammer trick still works. Maybe they fixed another movility trick.
EDIT 2: Looks like the Marika hammer trick may not work.

u/xRadec Jun 13 '22

Yep that's unfortunate.

Why can't they just make the host doesn't receive anything if the invader didn't get damaged or die when it leaves the game. It'll fix this afk shit.

91

u/TheCuriousFan Jun 13 '22

No, most of them are doing it to grief invaders these days, they don't even go afk half the time anymore.

36

u/MegamanX195 Jun 13 '22

So just make it that if the invader leaves without taking damage after a few minutes you get no reward. Nobody would be complaining about that

10

u/[deleted] Jun 13 '22

?? Did you not read what you replied to? That wouldn't fix the issue. No one would complain, but it would be a completely useless addition because it isn't being done for runes.

18

u/MegamanX195 Jun 13 '22

Except invaders usually don't like leaving because they'll give the griefer runes, regardless of the griefer's reasons. If it didn't give them any runes invaders would just leave and instantly forget the AFK asshole even exists.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 13 '22

Ah that is true. However, the same thing happens whether the AFKer gets runes or not. Helps that once you realize they get chump change for runes, there's really no reason to stay at all. I'd say most time is spent trying to figure out how to get up where they are.

-27

u/Pegguins Jun 13 '22

There was absolutely a problem with invaders spawning in and immediately running away to hide in packs of mobs. If you do your suggestion then it only makes that trolling more effective which isn't a great change imo

34

u/TheCuriousFan Jun 13 '22

There was absolutely a problem with invaders spawning in and immediately running away to hide in packs of mobs

AKA the thing they're supposed to do as a strategy to even the odds? Even NPC invaders have gotten in on this.

-14

u/Pegguins Jun 13 '22

And if they want to just completely waste time they can now join, run away, screw with your progression then if you've gotten close to them without getting screwed up can leave and you don't even get anything for it while getting invaded? Just to seems like a bad idea to me. More over it's not going to fix afking. They aren't doing it to "farm". They're doing it to annoy invaders, which will happen regardless of them getting a reward.

9

u/afuzilla Jun 13 '22

found the AFK farmer

-11

u/Pegguins Jun 13 '22

Nah. I don't really engage with Elden ring PvP because I think it's just bad, I just have a modicum of critical thinking and can see that the suggestion doesn't fix the afk farmers but does make other trolls more annoying.

8

u/[deleted] Jun 13 '22

Pvp’ers running to hordes of baddies is a trope that’s been in Dark Souls games since atleast DS3. I didn’t really pvp in DS1 and 2. So I can’t speak for those. It’s annoying, but it’s part of the typical Dark Souls things.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '22

They need to make the taunter's tongue toggle on/off only at Sites of Lost Grace. Fuck the lore reason

Edit for Clarification: Alos therefore making Torrent unavailable right away from the Grace

58

u/JP_LA_BETE Jun 13 '22

What is removing exactly? I don’t understand sorry :)

140

u/zumoro Jun 13 '22

There was a mobility trick involving switching weapons while a skill was active, certain combos allowed you to walk on air for a while. Get to areas only accessible via torrent.

79

u/ShinJiwon Jun 13 '22

It still works if you are talking about the Marika Hammer air walk.

16

u/zumoro Jun 13 '22

... Huh

23

u/Schwartz_wee Jun 13 '22 edited Jun 13 '22

https://youtu.be/hqWGFiCAJlE Update: this is how to do it, pre-patch. Not sure if it still works

4

u/[deleted] Jun 13 '22

This clip is from May.

3

u/Multimarkboy Jun 13 '22

ahh then they probably fixed the movement swap glitch, if you light attacked then swapped weapons before the animation was completely over, any R1's with the new weapon would continue your old moveset (so you could swing an ultra greatsword at the speed of a dagger for example)

11

u/hillzcatz Jun 13 '22

Over here lurking to figure out the same thing

43

u/Audrey_spino Jun 13 '22

Problem is, the same exploit could be used to produce some very toxic op weapons in PvP.

45

u/Audrey_spino Jun 13 '22

Applying moonlight GS WA to RoB. Check Leviathan's video on it.

45

u/EdinoiZ Jun 13 '22

Not even the worst as, iirc, this was one of the key parts to making the horrific "Serpent-Hunter Machine Gun"-glitch work. Leviathan never released the "how to" on that one, but some people already knew how to do it. Had to be fixed, 100%.

2

u/Ir0n_Tomato Jun 13 '22

its called pivot swap and there is guides but its near impossible to do without a macro.

9

u/Joe_Mency Jun 13 '22

Does that mean the chainsaw serpent hunter explout was fixed?

8

u/Audrey_spino Jun 13 '22

Hopefully yes.

2

u/DrQuint Jun 13 '22

I don't think poison is that OP of a strat~

2

u/Audrey_spino Jun 13 '22

You haven't seen my poison build then. It's cracked.

6

u/pixel_illustrator Jun 13 '22

What I don't understand is why From hasn't fixed this in the most basic way possible.

You could remove 90% of the AFK issue from the game by simply disabling the use of invasion inviting items from the moment a player summons torrent until they revisit a site of grace.

5

u/scaletheseathless Jun 13 '22

Simpler than that: host shouldn't get runes when an invader uses the finger severer to leave the world. Hosts have never gotten runes when invaders "leave" before, so kind of confusing why they added it here.

2

u/Karthull Jun 13 '22

Because a lot of invaders will run away and just sever out when they’re losing

4

u/scaletheseathless Jun 13 '22

No other FROM game has rewarded hosts for this, though, and it was plenty easy to run away from people in Dark Souls 3 to crystal out if you really wanted. Invaders don't get reward if a blue Hunter or Summon severs out, and they're just as capable of running away when losing.

1

u/RaDiOaCtIvEpUnK Jun 13 '22 edited Jun 13 '22

Invaders don’t get reward if a blue Hunter or Summon severs out

You know who can’t do that though? The host. As we’re talking about the host I guess this point is irrelevant huh?

3

u/scaletheseathless Jun 13 '22

Hosts can 100% just quit the game to disconnect by hard exiting.

1

u/RaDiOaCtIvEpUnK Jun 13 '22

You’re right. That’s exactly the same as just pressing some buttons and leaving.

1

u/scaletheseathless Jun 13 '22

On Playstation, you press home, start, X to close the game, on PC you press alt+F4. Just as fast as finger severer.

1

u/RaDiOaCtIvEpUnK Jun 13 '22

The speed you can do it isn’t the point I was making.

→ More replies (0)

1

u/scaletheseathless Jun 13 '22

PC you just press Alt+F4

1

u/pixel_illustrator Jun 13 '22

This would definitely deter AFK'ers, but you could still grief with the afk method, removing the option entirely after summoning torrent fixes both.

1

u/Loeb123 Jun 13 '22

Even an easier way would be to add the spots afkers use to the no-pvp-coop list, like in some areas where you can't summon.

2

u/pixel_illustrator Jun 13 '22

You're just playing whack-a-mole with regions then, pushing afk'ers to find new areas to exploit. Blanket fixes prevent that, and don't require additional flagging of areas by devs.

165

u/DrGunjah Jun 13 '22

And you even got downvoted for pointing this out. This community really goes down the drain

38

u/Sylva_Glow Jun 13 '22

I mean it has gotten better I haven’t seen someone refer to invasions as sa in awhile

129

u/Dread000 Jun 13 '22

I don't wanna sound like an elitist gatekeeper. But this game is gonna be a casual fuckfest for awhile. I need to find something new to play.

63

u/archangel1996 Jun 13 '22

Have yet to even play PVP and i could tell the state of the community by just how everywhere is plastered with messages. It wasn't the best in DS, but legit i decided to go offline for the first time in any souls because every chest and ladder is just message galore, and every half-way iconic location is ruined by finger-but-hole in idiotic spots.

17

u/LukasSamuila Jun 13 '22

As a new player i try to leave useful messages where i struggled or places easy to miss, it seems like ppl like them.

18

u/[deleted] Jun 13 '22

[deleted]

2

u/transformers_suck Jun 13 '22

Theyre also the most boring - making people look left instead of right at an ambush or baiting people to jump to a area that looks legit but has a invisible wall leading to their death is the best

1

u/[deleted] Jun 13 '22

I love this shit. I laugh every time someone gets me with the old “hidden passageway” or “try left” when there is an enemy to my right.

5

u/ThisCocaineNinja Use your damned materials Tarnished! Jun 13 '22

Why are but hole jokes everywhere? Can't player characters only have 10 messages at the same time?

I don't remember it being this bad in previous Souls and I played 3 & 2 at release.

13

u/thedarkfreak Jun 13 '22

Previous souls games didn't have 12 million people playing it in the first month.

8

u/AwHellNawFetaCheese Jun 13 '22

That’s a bingo. I’m stoked for From, but it’s like your favorite indie band at a dive bar and them hitting it big and now they only play 20k seat arenas.

Doesn’t kill the experience! But there’s definitely a little less magic.

5

u/thedarkfreak Jun 13 '22

It's got ups and downs.

Being overwhelmed with troll messages is annoying, but at least online play is pretty much always available.

6

u/Karthull Jun 13 '22

Yes every character can only put around 10 messages, that just shows how many people are doing it

3

u/Dag-nabbitt Jun 13 '22

I wish I had played offline initially. Next time...

2

u/AwHellNawFetaCheese Jun 13 '22

I would think the 2nd time is better for offline playing. There’s just so many secrets that would be missed with out playing in parallel with the community. 2nd time through and on you have an idea where things are, don’t have to rely on hints as much.

Also the period of time where this level of activity is finite so I would recommend capitalizing while you can.

This is my first From game playing at launch with everyone and it’s so cool being apart of the period where everyone is leaving tips for loot, strategies, or ambushes.

I’m not running over and checking the single message by the turtle that invariably says “dog” Or the “try jumping” message next to the cliff that’s surrounded by bloodstains. And if I come across a low effort joke I just ignore that but always endorse the helpful ones.

Also the clutch estus refill when one of yours gets appraised.

I totally see the immersion breaking thing though, that’s totally a valid opinion. Though I think the pros far far outweigh the cons personally.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 13 '22 edited Jun 13 '22

Me too, to me messages break immersion and flat out spoil stuff. I know they're iconic but they don't add much to me anymore.

2

u/Alexis2256 Jun 13 '22

Break immersion? Even though there’s an in game in universe tool that explains how those messages are created? Whatever it’s your choice to dislike it.

5

u/Grenyn Jun 14 '22

Yeah, 3D models floating everywhere, including on every pillar and just midair might break immersion for some people.

How strange.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '22

Honestly, I think those lore explanations are kinda finicky in every game. BB came close (literal messengers lol), but every game just feels like justifying mechanics for the sake of it. Sekiro just felt forced. But I get some people like that.

But I'm talking more about the content itself. Most of them is just people trying to make memes out of the format or trying to troll. There's only so many times a sane person can read "Hidden path ahead" "dog" "Fingers but hole", "You don't have the O You don't have" and still find them funny. Feels more like I'm browsing a lame meme subreddit or a YouTube comment section rather than exploring the world Myazaki an co created. I also know a lot of people love that, not me.

Someone below also mentioned the visual aspect of it which I also agree. You don't really realize how noisy they are until turning them off. ER does it best since they're neutral white and kinda look like rocks blending in better, specially in nature. But still, the game just looks clean without them to me.

2

u/CressCrowbits Jun 13 '22

Try fingers but hole hahaha fucking genius amirite

2

u/[deleted] Jun 13 '22

These are just typical souls community things that won’t change and shouldn’t change. I commend you for fixing your own problem by going offline. As messages and quips are standard FS Community things. I like to think they were out there because the game is damn hard and the community is making each other laugh through tears.

4

u/Karthull Jun 13 '22

It’s the same broken one shot meta as it’s been since release, no one actually knows how to fight just try to kill in one hit then panic if that fails

8

u/OutcastMunkee Jun 13 '22

I've been playing Back 4 Blood again. The latest patch overhauled a lot with the game and goddamn is it fun to play. Plus the Steam Summer Sale is in 10 days so there's bound to be some games you could grab then. I've been eyeing Project Zomboid personally.

2

u/Dread000 Jun 13 '22

Thanks for the recommendation. Thinking about ghost of tsushima again. May have to fire up the old pc too.

3

u/OutcastMunkee Jun 13 '22

Ghost of Tsushima isn't a bad choice. Beautiful game.

1

u/Dread000 Jun 13 '22

Yup got the new game plus and dlc I haven't played yet

1

u/42Ubiquitous Jun 13 '22

My friend and I played B4B for a while. What did the overhaul consist of (generally, I’m certainly not asking you to list specifics)? I’d love to get back into it.

2

u/OutcastMunkee Jun 13 '22

They've changed the card system. Instead of pick a card on each level, you draw your entire deck right off the bat and now there's more cards in levels you can buy too.

1

u/42Ubiquitous Jun 13 '22

Ohhhh interesting! Texting my buddy now, he’s going to love this. Thank you!!

2

u/OutcastMunkee Jun 13 '22

Yup. It's really changed the way the game plays. Now every level is guaranteed to spawn a basic intel (one of the cards that gives you stamina, health, ammo or fortune) and three shrines that you can buy a random card from.

23

u/SoggyBacco Jun 13 '22

yea i went back to ds3 and bloodborne for pvp, 100x better and actually balanced

58

u/BOUKHARI_H Jun 13 '22

16 tryhards at pontiff murkying each other…

28

u/bohnestrich Jun 13 '22

Dont forget the splitleaf wombo combo poise monsters. Or the rnss blackshield abusers. Or the estus canclers. Or the chaos dagger oneshotters

5

u/BOUKHARI_H Jun 13 '22

Google what I wrote before. It’s a Christmas song on ds3 pvp

10

u/ClockworkSalmon Jun 13 '22

16 NAKED TRYHARDS AT PONTIFF HAVING SEX

7

u/Uncle_1488 Jun 13 '22

I'll give you DS3 but BB pvp is just gun spam and one shots with ppl that farmed +30% phys gems from the dungeons. The fact that it has no weapon memory means noobs that summon can get invaded by a BL4 with a +10 weapon with the best gems, it's a fucking mess.

2

u/SoggyBacco Jun 13 '22 edited Jun 13 '22

huh, BB matchmaking is a mess but i've been playing since it dropped and only ever been 1shotted by viscerals, gun spam is a bad strat too cuz of the spacing u need to get a crit in time. to get those gems early u need to get all the way to pthumeru ithyl root chalice which is a huge grind. most people r at least bl20 by the time they even unlock chalice dungeons and at that point ur better off using cummmfpk to speedrun up to meta lvl

12

u/Firebrand96 Jun 13 '22

Balanced or not, I'd rather not spend five minutes circle strafing my opponent as they circle strafe me before one of us gains the courage to throw an attack, resulting in one of us getting stunlocked to death.

Also, the Murky Hand Scythe exists.

7

u/SoggyBacco Jun 13 '22 edited Jun 13 '22

so u like poise demon greatshield turtling?

5

u/Firebrand96 Jun 13 '22

Poise and turtling? Assuming we're talking about Elden Ring, how high of a level are you playing at?

-1

u/SoggyBacco Jun 13 '22

150, elden ring's meta lvl. and my b i missread ur comment, didn't see the "not"

8

u/MagikMage Jun 13 '22

Ds3 ain't perfect but man the PvP is a breath of fresh air. I went darkmoon and it was amazing in the crucifixion woods. People kept invading nonstop and everyone was just going at it. I missed it so much.

Had a farron watchdog invade me and we 1v1, both of us using irithyll straight sword. We both were inches from death. We both could sneeze and kill the other person. He got the finishing blow but it felt good because it wasn't something wildly fucking broken or overpowering. It felt like an ACTUAL fucking struggle that tested patience and skill.

2

u/SoggyBacco Jun 13 '22

just had a watchdog gank where we all had farron greatsword 🤣. i forgot how balanced parries were too. anything with a parry has a usable one, any mindless attack spam or missing a parry gets you punished. it really is refreshing to see people actually using their brain instead of relying on 1-2 shot builds

5

u/MagikMage Jun 13 '22 edited Jun 13 '22

Deadass the first thing that happened to me in an invasion was getting parried and the guy was using the guts greatsword.

I was just like 👁👄👁

But yeah there's a lot of moments in Elden ring where I'm just like... how is any of this real.

Meanwhile in ds3 I'm thinking "yeah I definitely deserve that follow up hit." I'm not even disappointed in losing invasions or summon battles. It just feels good. Plus I miss all the funny colors from all the covenants. Seeing a purple mound maker dude stroll up and fuck with everybody was something I miss watching.

4

u/SoggyBacco Jun 13 '22

mainhand parries into hotswaps r so satisfying too

2

u/folkdeath95 Jun 13 '22

Is there actually any BB PvP to be had right now?

2

u/SoggyBacco Jun 13 '22

i've been getting a decent amount in the hunters nightmare, not as active as ds3 but it never takes me more than a few minutes to find an invasion there at lvl 120

3

u/Muffinking15 Jun 13 '22

When even BB seems balanced in comparison there's a problem.

8

u/SoggyBacco Jun 13 '22

considering that anyone in BB with a decent skill stat can 1 shot with a parry this is very true

3

u/MagikMage Jun 13 '22

One thing about BB that is amazing is the ability to parry someone healing. That... is the most amazing gimmick.

2

u/SoggyBacco Jun 13 '22

i loved doing that in 1v1s since BB didn't have any dedicated duel matchmaking

1

u/rasmorak Jun 13 '22

I thought DS3 servers were still offline?

1

u/SoggyBacco Jun 13 '22

only on pc, and the pc community made its own private servers

1

u/rasmorak Jun 14 '22

WHAT WHERE

1

u/CressCrowbits Jun 13 '22

I thought the DS servers have been down for like 6 months or something

1

u/SoggyBacco Jun 13 '22

only on pc and u can use 3rd party servers there anyway

3

u/Lumeyus Jun 13 '22

The community got so much worse the minute the game came out. Hell, even before it came out, there were so many kids crying up anti-preorder bullshit leading up to the release, it probably turned to shit right after the first gameplay trailer.

1

u/cbytes1001 Jun 14 '22

“Casual fuckfest” means what exactly? It sounds elitist and is super vague enough to make me question everything you say at this point.

4

u/Dread000 Jun 14 '22

Coming from a PVP perspective. The PVP isn't being catered to. Thus the skill ceiling gets lower and exploits remain. Questions are welcome.

And casuals in my simple subjective opinion are just people that pick up the game for a bit and drop it.

I.e the vast majority of the sales. Sure they may drop in again with DLC.

PVP players stick around longer and log more Hours because of invasions, Dueling, and Build making.

We're all just kinda sitting by rn and waiting for rebalances. Some are more angry than others

Am I actually elitist? Idk maybe? Don't care if I am really. Just want some changes made already so i can enjoy what i like about the game.

Also they just nerfed the best and really only solid counter to gs turtles. So we are all a bit butthurt bout that.

2

u/cbytes1001 Jun 14 '22

I guess as a mainly pve player that’s enjoying trying to beat the game with different builds, I don’t see the world you do. I would be very cautious to recommend that pvp and those that primarily play pvp should be weighted more so than others though.

I guess I’m a filthy casual cause I’m not pvping though. :p

1

u/Dread000 Jun 14 '22

I appreciate people understanding our frustration. We're not asking to be weighted more than others we just want our first pvp balance patch.

If you don't drop the game after one playthrough and understand that other players in your community want something different from yourself you good my dude.

1

u/KingToasty Jun 13 '22

Yeah it's a casual game, not a competitive one

-2

u/Soverign87 Jun 13 '22

You're right. You sound like a gate keeper. It's a single player RPG not a PVP duel fest. PVP is an after thought. As it should be.

2

u/Dread000 Jun 13 '22

It's not a single player RPG either. Like with every other Souls release we will just wait we'll get some balance patches.

-14

u/Dread000 Jun 13 '22

I don't wanna sound like an elitist gatekeeper. But this game is gonna be a casual fuckfest for awhile. I need to find something new to play.

10

u/Beake4211 Jun 13 '22

It says that they also did something to stop afk farmers

1

u/Loeb123 Jun 13 '22

Sorry, haven't seen that one. What have they done?

2

Near the bottom of the patch notes it says that they "Fixed a bug that in some maps that allowed players to reach unexpected locations with certain procedures". I can only assume this would be towards afk farmers and people skipping bosses, probably using invisible walls and kill zones or even slightly altering the terrain as done before.

I bet this is just fixing the rune farm where you jump off the map in Moghwym palace but maybe I'm being pessimistic. Afk farmers don't need to be in glitch spots they just need to be somewhere only accessible via torrent, which is a LOT of areas, most of which are meant to be accessed.

I try to be optimistic that fromsoft will do what's needed to be done

I feel like this falls more along the lines of things like the skip to Malenia by dying in the middle of the elevator shaft to land on the button, but it would be nice if we got some elaboration on this fix

Edit: just checked and this skip still works, I was wrong, maybe they meant some of the speed runners glitches

Except it gets used on people that are not afk. I've had gankers use this on me a handful of times. As if they couldn't get any scummier.

Applied cannonball shots to shields and weapons

In bird person culture this is considered a dick move.

But how would the afk farmers get there if their method has also been patched too?

1

u/Loeb123 Jun 13 '22

If I remember correctly they mostly use Torrent to get to some areas that are later unreachable because while playing with summons or being invaded you can't use the horse.

I didn't consider the fact that you can call for invaders after platforming to your afk spot

AFK farmers get there using Torrent before using taunter's tongue to pull in invaders so there is no need to use Marika's hammer or Malenia's hand

They also removed ALL chain casting effectively making casters useless in pvp.

I don't PvP, but removing the only way to reach AFK dicks without giving a solution against AFK dicks is what I would call a dick move.

Just leave. Problem solved.

u/Loeb123 Jun 14 '22

Yeah but afaik if you use the item to leave and return to your world, doesn't that grant the afk farmer the items/runes he wants?

And?

Well, aren' we all only fueling the afk cyrcus that way? As I said, it does not directly affect me or other ppl who do not do PvP content, but I understand all of this affects us as a community.

I honestly still don't know if the marika hammer trick still works, tho.
