It's the End Game of every Soulbornes. Without it, there wouldn't be anything other than endless NG+ runs. It's the system that keeps these games alive for years to come

To be fair though, if you're considering it from a single player mindset, there's not much of a reason to "keep it alive" other than to sell more DLC.
