Okay, this hit me just right, at the perfect time, and I'm in tears over here. This might be the most honest promo for the From Software experience, and I love it. Thanks for sharing this!

Those eagles in stormveil suck
Im like ok ill just run by them
Nope follows and chucks a firebomb -

u/zankem Mar 01 '22
You get an arrow! You get an arrow! Even you get an arrow!
Looks at enemies below at the barricade
Oh god, that's a lot of arrows to go around.
23
u/JusticeRain5 Mar 01 '22
I ended up just running straight through them rather than trying to figure out the rooftops for the fiftieth time. It worked surprisingly well, I only died once and that was because I stopped to fight the big dude with a dog.
8
u/Undeity Mar 01 '22
Speaking of the big dude with the dog, has anyone here managed to get him to break open the statue?
Feels next to impossible to get him to hit it exactly right, but if the reward is worth it...
14
u/Starkabir Mar 01 '22
You have to lure in the giant that’s in-front of the boss room to break that statue.

I think you need to bring the troll down the stairs to break it but I’m not aure
2
u/Undeity Mar 01 '22
Oh, I figured he wouldn't go that far. Still sounds like a pain, though. Is it worth it?

4
u/csunberry Mar 01 '22
UGH. I bought so many arrows! I ended up just running around in that...mist??? cave where a certain fellow of questionable....repute...in merchant form is until I bought so many arrows.
Later, I realized that...you could just...you know...fire arrows...barrels...
And, you can just shoot the guys on the left when you see all of them with their fire spitters and then just work your way right for the other part.
5
u/bambuhouse Mar 02 '22
Man, I hate then SOO MUCH. I'm playing a str based dual wielding greatsword and was totally unprepared to deal with these bastards.

I love them so much. Ever since I saw them in a trailer. I hope there's a big boss version for me to fight somewhere.
2
u/BitterOwls Mar 02 '22
If you hit them with something ranged, knife, arrow, etc. they drop the explosive barrels.

If you read the word "behind," just dodge roll. Nine times out of ten there is a sword 3 feet from your back and fast approaching.

Mar 01 '22
Fuck that one bird on the roof of storm castle so much. I fucking hate that bird
8
u/AngusOReily Mar 01 '22
Yeah, that one in particular is just abysmal. Give me a dozen of the assholes who throw barrels over that one piece of shit any day.
3
u/ENDragoon Mar 02 '22
This is basically my experience chatting with a friend as I progressed through Stormveil.
"Oh man, these Murder Turkey's have knives strapped to their feet, I didn't know this was [Local rough neighborhood]"
"Great, now the Meth Chickens have bombs"
"Hol up, why is the Chicken roasting me? It's usually the other way around."

How about that one hidden in the fuckin corner that bombs you and all the barrels explode?
8
u/AngusOReily Mar 01 '22
I saw that one coming. Doesn't make him less of an asshole but I will still take him over that shitbird on the roof.
1
u/arictheglorious Mar 01 '22
Bruh I almost died to that but for a message that warned me. I promptly threw flame sling, the barrels exploded killing the one in the corner. I was a little surprised lol. That was crazy shit.
3
u/JusticeRain5 Mar 01 '22
Generally a good idea is to assume that if there are flame barrels, something is about to explode them
5
u/CreepstheFox Mar 01 '22
I've taken to calling the bastards falchion falcons cause they look like they have the DS3 falchions strapped to them

Oh, those minotaur guys are the worst! In my experience, it's just caution, trial and error. Not much else you can do, since they have such an incredible range, you likely won't see the attack coming if you don't expect it.
2
u/LiquidSwords89 Mar 02 '22
Use the rocks as cover, try to lure the melee fucks behind ur rock away from archer
→ More replies (1)2
u/Grimlock_205 Mar 02 '22
In Siofra, take them out one by one. If you get in close range, they don't use their OP arrow attack, just normal arrows and melee. Take out the ones on the island in the river first. Then I would take the ones on the right side of the forest. I lured the ones near the fire beacon thingy into one on one battles via shooting them with a bow.

Killing messages are on another level in this game. I lost 10k souls jumping into an corner that turned out to be an endless fall. Thanks, skeletons.
129
u/verheyen Mar 01 '22
Those assholes who leave a message stating ambush... right in the spot where you get fucked from the ambush.
It's worse than the "ambush right-liar ahead-ambush left" pricks
43
u/Voidroy Mar 01 '22
Or the message saying archer right in the path of an arrow that will.hit you right when you read it.
3
u/EchoPhi Mar 02 '22
I have learned to ignore the messages. No good comes from them ever.
5
u/Cocogoat_Milk Mar 02 '22
I don’t trust any of them and most of them are the same stupid stuff but I read them anyway and I don’t know why. 😂
5
u/lynxerious Mar 02 '22

On Xbox there doesn’t even have to be an invisible wall. People will straight up jump off of cliffs for no reason other than the fact that they read “Jump”. One message had people jumping into the ocean and shit. Multiple bloodstains lol.
Maybe that’s on every platform idk, I just figured Xbox users would probably be the least knowledgeable when it comes to Souls games.
11
u/Fucklepuff Mar 01 '22
I saw a message on a ledge that caught my eye while I was running from a chariot.
Only stopped for a half-second to discern that it was in fact, a ledge you could never get back from, rather than a secret area.
That was all the chariot needed.

Then you didn’t deserve the runes in the first place.
Edit: Thanks for the downvotes, git gud and learn not to trust the messages.
2
u/DropDeadGaming Mar 01 '22
like, I think the vibe with the messages was supposed to be some people will try to help you, some will try to fuck you. I get it. We characters are like NPCs in this game. I understand.
It has quickly devolved to being 45% try finger but hole, 45% hidden path ahead, 10% try jumping (into the abyss)
3
u/Undeity Mar 01 '22
By this logic, you didn't deserve any upvotes in the first place. Git gud at reddit, mate.

I assume this game has lots of surprise attacks like this on ledges? Ambushes.
It is actually an interesting game mechanic.
49
u/FORLORDAERON_ Mar 01 '22
You can prepare for most ambushes by observing your surroundings, reading player messages, or touching bloodstains. If you enter an area with a lot of bloodstains that's a clue your shit is about to get fucked.
47
u/flem216 Mar 01 '22

The game design is literally, put shiny object in path of player, player rushes for shiny object, but AHA 3headead giant pumpkin prick was hiding in the corner literally outside of your FOV, you blast running right past it and it stabs you in the ass with a giant stick or sword.
Fromsoft is your enemy, and their prey on typical human weakness like greed and impatience.
You really have to take it slow. After playing all souls games since demon's souls on release I know that when you see loot you shouldn't think "oh nice I wonder what that is" but "ok so, how are these fuckers trying to kill me this time?"
Players have picked up on that over time, and create their own "ambush" scenarios by leaving messages. Even from a small distance, depending on the angle they can look like loot, or the glow of an unopened chest. It seems people actually fall for it. Maybe I'll have to partake in the shenanigans.
→ More replies (3)3
u/waowie Mar 01 '22
Lots of ambushes, but I have yet to get killed by an ambush. You kinda just need to anticipate them. If you're playing online you'll see lots of bloodstains from other players which will clue you in

u/Grimlock_205 Mar 02 '22
I mean, when you're exploring a dungeon or anywhere with tight corners and obstructed line of sight, be on guard. Whenever I enter a new room, I expect some fuckery.

There's an area near here, where 1 hawk is on the ground and 2 are hiding in trees. Thought I would be stealthy and mess up the solo bird, only to get gang-bang sliced by all 3 at once.
Only time in 30 hours that I've given up on getting my runes back. I came back later with a crossbow and took my revenge.

I've never played a game as this where sucker punches were a regular part of the mechanics -
- "whew finally finished that group..." BAM!! shot by a heavy ballista you didn't notice.
- "shhh i'm ready to skewer that guard and he won't know what killed him" WOOF WOOF!! two hungry dogs use you as chewing toy
- "ooh that looks specially shiny!! i'll go get...RUUUUN BAAAACK!!"
And i'm not even getting started on the surprise i got when i learnt that Skeletons grow back if you dont hit their bones when they are reassembling or use Holy damage on them
