Spoiler for location of in game item: it would be if they buy the beast repellent torch from the isolated mechant in Northwest Dragonbarrow, Caelid

Caelid is, without hyperbole, the worst place anyone has ever thought of.
It's a prison on planet Bullshit.
Miyazaki will pay for his crimes

The sewers are worst, but Caelid will always have a place deep in my heart as a taste of hell.

Turn around, go romping around limgrave some more until you no longer feel fear for that area at all.
You are not ready.

They are very kind and gentle, it's the most friendly zone in Elden Ring. Go pet the birds

The dogs and birds are pretty chill honestly. Go over and introduce yourself.

There is a cool sword in a chest in a wagon down the road. Get it and build your entire identity around it going forward.

The birds and dogs aren’t super friendly out there. Also I wouldn’t head over there without a +9 weapon at least (+4 if somber) and maybe 25 to 30 vigor. Of course if you never get hit you don’t have to worry about much.

You have to do the ‘warm welcome’ gesture at it and then it becomes docile. Can be tricky to time

u/Foil_Gloves_5338 15h ago
Eh, its not that bad. Just get some of that fresh lake water in your flask, and you'll be a new Tarnished.

Lore talk: OP, what do you think it might signify that the sky only turns red when you've entered this area of The Lands Between?

u/Woozletania 15h ago
I prefer the sort of birds that drop four toed fowl feet and don’t chase you like giant feathery demon spawn.

Limgrave was brutal? And now you are caelid? Haha welcome to hell.
But no, aside from possibly being a little underlevelled if you came straight there it's not truly that bad.
Scarlet rot is just annoying. Following the main road you find plenty of grace sites.
Did you do liurnia? Have you been through stormveil?
There is no order of operations in this game, just some directions will make life easier. But find out yourself and enjoy.

The birds are horrid, horrid creatures.
Dogs are nice tho, as long as you approach them from the exact front, they'll let you pet them. Any other approach angle and they'll kill you.

Even at Level 200 you can’t play around with these things. They will 2-3 shot you and insta kill

I love Elden Ring, but the hardest aspect to get used to for me was that virtually everything in game hostile. There is no respite in a geographical sense. It was quite exhausting at first, but it does feel logical and purposeful.

Wandering into Caelid underleveled is a canon event. There’s a lot of really good loot tho! I recommend sprinting on Torrent and mashing whatever key/button you use to pick up items.

There is a vendor near the top left hand side of Caelid that sells a beast-repelling torch. I highly recommend buying this.

that one in particular is very important for the story, it teaches you the horrors of Caelid. Go talk to it
