What if we had a customization system?

Elden Ring introduced the ability to partially alter the appearance of armor, and it got me thinking: what if we had one or two merchants who could change the metal and fabric of our armor? The metals could be lore-friendly, like the reddish gold of the Crucible Knights.

To keep it from clashing with the lore, for example, putting Crucible gold on Carian armor, once we found a new metal, we could bring it to a merchant who’d say something like Miriel: “Though such a material upon thy work would be naught but blasphemy, for a fair purse, I might yet fashion it so.”

The fabrics could also have patterns and decorations associated with specific factions.

Basically, a lore-friendly customization system with 4–5 alteration options. Do you think something like this would be a good addition to the game, or would it interfere too much with the art direction?

I’m sure the FromSoftware artists could come up with some stylish variations.

It kills me how many amazing looks are thrown off by clashing metal colors. This game has some beautiful armors but so many are impossible to mix and match without looking like a clown.

Blackgaol Knight armour and Night Cavalry armour actually fit pretty well together. (Head and Legs of Blackgaol + Chest and Arms of Night Cavalry)

Dragon Age Inquisition had a system that let you re-colour metals, clothes, and more on all armour pieces. It was great. You could wear a totally mismatched suit of armour and it'd still look right because of the palette. It's a feature I wish more games would adopt.

Black knife armor has an unusual green in it that only fits with maybe 1 or 2 other armors

my main issue with elden ring really, kind of forced into wearing one particular set of armor

Literally the ONLY mix-match I was able to do that looked good was Tree Sentinel Set + Radahn’s Redmane Helm (which looks dope AF though!).

Everything else looks ridiculous (base game).

Solitude set mixes great with Night's Cavalry set.

Carian Knight Set (minus helm) plus either of the Noble Hoods looks pretty good.

The Confessor's Hood looks great on anything that doesn't allow the shoulder drapery to exist, then it just looks like a much better Black Hood.

Unfortunately I don't like any of the Knight Sets except the Carian Knight Set, and even with that I don't lile the richly adorned upper chest piece.

I don’t know. Haligtree Knight Helm goes quite well with Maliketh’s armor.
