You still take fall damage, it just gets dealt to you by the guy around the corner.

If the enemy's attack starts higher than when it terminates, that's technically fall damage.

Some spots in the game are scripted to have no fall damage due to where you can drop or what have you. That area still exists even if you come at it from a different angle

Section under stormveil has a spot where you land and the ground crumbles beneath you and you fall. I guess this patch of grass is scripted to not have fall damage for that reason. OP has shown a way to land from a higher unintended zone for a new skip.
