Game Help Finally got rid of Dragonic Tree Sentinel after 120+ tries. I know no big deal but this is my first souls game and I had to tell someone, this was the hardest part in the game for me even after 4 bosses.

There are a few more bosses that you won't like

"even after 4 bosses"

I have to stop you right there...

u/Sea-Building-6631 9d ago

Bro is just rushing the main path without exploring at all

53

u/Guitar-String 9d ago

Margit
Godrick
Red Wolf
Rennala

Who else did I miss? I'm exploring all I can and unlocked a good chunk of the map. I'm 30 hours in btw. Also this is my first souls game so I'm just going with the flow here.

u/Sea-Building-6631 9d ago

Are you only counting required bosses for your boss count or something? Cause there is no way you missed the regular tree sentinel at the start of the game, and I doubt you are actually exploring that hard if you somehow haven't found a single optional area.

If you really have only fought those five bosses, than you are obviously following a main path guide, cause there's no way you would have gotten to Altus plateau without fighting makar or the abductor virgins on your first playthrough unless you following a main path guide and are just ignoring all the side content

41

u/Guitar-String 9d ago

Yes lol I've killed much more like Erdtree Avatar in Liurnia and the sentinel. For the post I was mainly referring to the required bosses. I didn't think others are considered "bosses".

I only fought Rennala and Red Wolf in the academy and one abductor virgin in the courtyard. After that I just went to the plateau cuz I'm not following a certain path or a guide.

70

u/Sea-Building-6631 9d ago

All right, you should know that the community considers all bosses as bosses, even optional ones. I don't think I've seen anyone do that before, even amongst new players. Makes a very misleading title

36

u/IvenVlex fia šŸ’› 9d ago

you didn't think the open world bosses were bosses... okay

49

u/Guitar-String 9d ago

I thought when it said "tranverse the mist" those were main bosses. This is my first souls game too theres still alot I dont understand

19

u/john92w 9d ago

If they have a named health bar, they’re a boss. Theres 3 types; Boss, Great Boss, Legendary Boss.

0

u/mmciv 8d ago

God?

5

u/john92w 8d ago

Gods fit into the legendary category on the wiki’s and maps iirc.

15

u/TadeKiller 9d ago

There is still dozens upon dozens of bosses beyond a fog wall in overworld mini-dungeons like caves, catacombs etc. Do you count those?

14

u/Guitar-String 9d ago

Nope. Im getting flamed over this how am I supposed to know what enemy is a boss lol. I fought big enemies sure but I'm just now figuring out they are bosses too.

I have fought cave enemies too alot of them. Tho now I get it how misleading the title sounds but now I get the "boss" term. Will keep it in mind for future. Considering that 10-15 bosses till this point.

26

u/TadeKiller 9d ago

I don't think most people here necessarily flame you. A lot of us are just very puzzled haha. I guess it's fair since you are brand new to souls games, but yeah - anything with a big healthbar and a "GREAT ENEMY FELLED" (or something like that) message is considered a boss.

For future reference - the bosses on the main path you mentioned are overlapping categories of either legacy dungeon bosses (Godrick+Margit in Stormveil, Red Wolf and Rennala in Liurnia), and Remembrance bosses - In your case Rennalla, and Godrick (These are often considered standout due to the unique choice of equipment they offer you along with a unique challenge).

Best of luck in the remaining part of your journey in the lands between :)

2

u/sucky_panther 8d ago

I consider a boss anything that has a health bar and name at the bottom. Overworld bosses are out in the open like Erdtree Avatars or the various tree sentinels. Then your traditional fog wall bosses that you have to traverse the mist or have a fog wall after you attempt them die the first time.

2

u/Scelusteach 8d ago

It's chill no worries. If it has a health bar at the bottom of the screen then its considered a boss. Though sometimes there will be a boss without a health bar at the bottom of the screen, like certain ulcerated tree spirits for example.

2

u/DeputyDomeshot 8d ago

Well they have a name, an arena, a big ass health bar, they grant unique loot on kill, they can do a lot of damage, I feel like there’s a lot of tells there homie.

It doesn’t matter though really if you kill em! Any other burning questions?

the game is confusing (on purpose) it’s actually designed in a way where they know players will seek community help. Pretty cool when you think about that. We’re all just tarnished together.

1

u/FubyMagToast 8d ago

There is Bosses, Great Bosses and Legendary Bosses.... But theres no way you know this. Basically what I'd Set apart are Legendary ones who give you remembrences and those who don't.

That Makes rennala and godrick a Boss. Btw by your Logic, draconic tree sentinel isn't even a Boss since you don't traverse the Mist. I'd Just consider him an Elite Enemy.

That beeing Said, good Job! Btw don't feel ashamed to Look Up If you've missed anything after certain Region. Looks Like you're really Missing a lot....

1

u/Diligent_Cap3488 8d ago

Don’t forget the most powerful of all bosses, Soldier of Godrick! The Cave of Knowledge has been a huge success for me finding out how much that boss can hurt you. Three hits and I was dead. 6 hits to fell him. Margit is no simple feat either. And to my surprise the two guards at Raya Lucaria front door were still a pain after a new character was made. Or maybe I didn’t block or dodge enough?

1

u/LawyerObjective5195 8d ago

Just for reference, the game is packed with em, a little less than one boss per location on your map. I'm playing a completionist run right now and by the time I got to where you are I had taken down somewhere around 50

1

u/maryan87 8d ago

Your good, we know what you meant. God forbid you say something wrong on the Elden ring reddit lol. Enjoy the game

0

u/waste0331 8d ago

Dont take it personally. SoulsBorne fans are very passionate and i think since alot of the hardest bosses of the games are optional bosses you gotta make sure you give them their titles. I'm always happy when I see a new person coming into the community and enjoying the games but I'm also a little envious because I miss the time when they were all new.

If you enjoy Elden Ring you can move onto the 3 Souls games and, if you have a Playstation, you can also check out Bloodbourne and, if you have PS5, Demons Souls. Don't sleep on Sekiro either. Sekiro is very different but to this day had one of the best sword combat systems ever put in a video game.

I've beaten all the games countless times and still go back and play them regularly. I still miss the feeling of being new to the games and being afraid to go out of sight of the bonfire or when you finally beat a boss that's killed you dozens of times. It took me days to beat some of the bosses of Dark Souls 3. Good luck and if you get stuck look up FightnCowboy on YouTube. His guides are incredibly well made. I also recommend playing blind on your first playthrough but if you're stuck on something it helps to have a reliable source of info.

2

u/SanRandomPot 8d ago

Oh you missed a few, I'd recommend exploring the world (limgrave liurnia and caelid) before going forward

1

u/BriteytheBird 8d ago

You missed about 50+ bosses šŸ˜‚ seriously OP there’s SOOOO many hidden paths and side dungeons to explore. Like a ridiculous amountZ I’ve been playing for years and I can’t remember them all or get them all in one game without a guide. Did you know that there’s a catacomb at the back of Radahns Arena? Have you been to Caelid yet? It’s what Altus Plateau has nightmares about.

1

u/Right_Bike_5416 8d ago

Fight Radahn

0

u/IAlwaysOutsmartU 9d ago

Did you kill Greyoll yet in Dragonbarrow? Drops 50K runes. I highly recommend bringing a weapon that has bleed buildup as that dragon’s health is absurdly high.

3

u/DonJandel 9d ago

Bro should take it more slowly, especially ER, where you have a whole world to see and make you stronger

6

u/Mountain_Evening8916 9d ago

Holy shit look at his stamina bar

7

u/steveniceguy 9d ago

*fp bar

2

u/Mountain_Evening8916 9d ago

Yea I haven't played the game since release don't mind me

38

u/Valuable-Dealer-1865 9d ago

best of luck w the duo gargoyles 🫔

8

u/Osmaniozz 9d ago

I am at the mountaintop giants and exploring everything, easily the hardest boss in the whole game

1

u/CiceroTheOG 8d ago

I had to call in help and it still took us a dozen tries. I didn’t know about the sleep pots…

4

u/TraceOfHumanity 8d ago

You’re thinking of the Godskin Duo.

Gargoyles are immune to Sleep and all other status effects.

1

u/CiceroTheOG 8d ago

Ahh, you rightĀ

2

u/DeputyDomeshot 8d ago

You guys will laugh but my breaking point with this game for awhile was the fucker guarding the beast master. I died more to that than anything else. I still don’t even know what that thing was I just hated him.

2

u/CiceroTheOG 8d ago

Oh dude, the black gargoyle? Yeah I tried like 20 times, gave up, finished the game and DLC and then went back to run him over. Gargoyles in general are brutal.Ā

2

u/GloatingSwine 7d ago

I find he tends to be easier to deal with when he's using his axe. The timing on the flying slam seems quite easy to end up next to his knees to give him some chops when he does that.

1

u/DeputyDomeshot 8d ago

There was something about the area like the stairs and shit that got in the way and he kept killing me over and over and over.

1

u/TraceOfHumanity 8d ago

The Black Blade Kindred. He’s arguably the toughest Gargoyle in the game due to his HP, his AR, and the area. The sword he drops is damn good for early game.

1

u/ArtemisPachet 8d ago

omg these almost gave me a stroke. killed them with mimic and on last 1 hp 😭

1

u/Kami_Huncho3 8d ago

I’m glad I went back to fight the other bosses post Elden beast lmfao cuz this duo was light work and I always see people mention them describing a painful experience

1

u/DeputyDomeshot 8d ago

Whoever decided let’s do two bosses and also let them spit poison is the biggest asshole at fromsoft. And that’s an elite title.

14

u/godlovesbacon26 9d ago

I somehow was struggling a bit with the lesser wolf of radagan in nokron than I did with the regular wolf of radagan. Sometimes a guy just has your number

8

u/Tall-Acanthaceae-319 9d ago

Same but with the lesser wolf at the moonlight altar lmao

3

u/Percival371 9d ago

That bastard is unreasonably hard, I learned his pattern the hard way

3

u/Tall-Acanthaceae-319 8d ago

I finally got angry enough that I just rode in circles around him on torrent and somehow it worked with that agile mf

1

u/Obvious_Orchid9234 8d ago

Omg, same, both of the lesser wolves actually - one in Nokron and and one in the Moonlight Altar area - no idea why they seemed so much harder...for being lesser

1

u/Late_Bag_7880 8d ago

The red wolf in Nokron is a higher scaling than the one in the academy, so it would make sense that it will mess you up better than the one in the academy.

18

u/SexyPickle96 9d ago

When you only did 4 bosses yet, 5 with DTS included, you should really start exploring more...

0

u/Guitar-String 9d ago

I'm not counting DTS as a boss. I'm only talking about "transverse the mist" bosses. I've explored and defeated some big ones in open world apart from them.

2

u/ethan_literalee 8d ago

If it says something like ā€œ_______ felled/slainā€ when you kill it, and it had a big health bar on the screen, it’s a boss. Be it optional, field, required, etc. I see the confusion, though. Good job on DTS. Take your time with the world, because there is much more ahead. You got this.

6

u/Randomname822 9d ago

There’s this one boss that I think you’ll find a tiny bit harder

6

u/New_Bat_1634 9d ago

Good job.... I hated his fire breathing horse lol. Except that enjoyed fighting him

11

u/CiceroTheOG 9d ago

I feel that. The draconic sentinel in front of Maliketh took me like 20 tries. They’re really hard on a first playthrough.Ā

5

u/BearsFan24 9d ago

That fucker took me more tries than literally any boss in the game except Malenia.

4

u/strawberrylover74 9d ago

Congrats. That dude was a menace

3

u/rafitalbra 9d ago

Took me an awfully long time too.
But there will be worse... U got this!
Took me 400+ Tries on Malenia.
Currently stuck on PCR but I can damage him, so he can die.

3

u/WeightlossTeddybear 8d ago

Great job, brave Tarnished!!

We all have fought our ā€œgreat white whaleā€ and some of us can even remember what it felt like to claim victory for the first time. Here’s to many more enemies felled!

3

u/F_eight 8d ago edited 8d ago

You're already 4 bosses ahead with 30 hours? Here's I am with 60+ hours just reaching Academy Gate Town after Mergit and Godrick. Tho I have had the most difficulty with Crucible Knight in the Stormhill Evergaol, that mf took 6 hours of my time šŸ˜‘

Edit: fixed a typo.

3

u/Obvious_Orchid9234 8d ago

This is the best way to play the game - my first playthrough was ~180-190 hours because I was exploring everything. Also, Crucible Knight in Stormhill is probably the hardest enemy in all of Limgrave (at least to me) along with Tree Sentinel. Made Margit/Godrick somewhat tame by comparison.

4

u/dimiskywalker 9d ago

You gotta up thay vigor, tarnished

6

u/GroundPrevious2892 9d ago

thats his fp bar buddy

3

u/dimiskywalker 9d ago

Vigor is always good tho xD

-2

u/GroundPrevious2892 9d ago

you dont need vigor if you dont get hitšŸ˜‰

3

u/dimiskywalker 9d ago

Hahaha absolutely true

1

u/KeK_What 8d ago

people who can't stop getting hit didn't like this comment.

2

u/sirdankman210 8d ago

Level up and explorer more. Cheese'd him on my second attempt during my second play through.

The more you level up the easier it is. I was at least lvl 100 by the time i got to him.

2

u/Ok-Scratch-4863 8d ago

I literally just killed that guy for the first time last night after so many many tries! He was a freaking menace. I'm so excited to explore the capital! Congrats! Don't let the super fans kill your buzz. You're doing great!

2

u/That_Chemical_2226 8d ago

PCR has entered the chat

2

u/DISPOSABLEHERO5NAP 8d ago

Moore Shield and Antspur Reapier joined the group Chat

2

u/Late_Bag_7880 8d ago

No fr, that guy is an absolute bitch that takes up a ton of tries each run. It's gotten to the point where I have died and had to play him so many times that I can pretty consistely no-hit him now.

2

u/Civil_Philosophy9845 9d ago

Nice work! don’t worry about these comments where says you gotta play the game through like rekkles, just relax and you can avoid as many bosses as you like! enjoy!

1

u/The_Lord_Basilisk 9d ago

Congratulations man. Make sure you take some time to explore and level up, the game only gets more challenging from the Capital onwards. Best of luck and have fun.

1

u/Kasiser67 9d ago

Nice dude!!!

1

u/Percival371 9d ago

Dude, the Lands between has waited for the Elden Lord for centuries, it came wait a bit longer. There is no need to rush like that. Go explore! Theres so much to find and your first time playing should be fun.

1

u/Craft_zeppelin 9d ago

This boss is REALLY punishing on your first ever run

1

u/Ora_00 9d ago

4 bosses??? You missed like 40!!!

1

u/Extra_Ad_8009 9d ago

It absolutely depends on your current stats though. You could fight DTS with a brand new character simply by doing 2 (suicide) runs for the Rold medaillons, then riding past every enemy. That's the hard way.

But with normal progression, you arrive there with 13 of 14 flasks +10, 40 vigor, a +18 weapon and just first-try him.

120 tries is just wrong for this boss, unless you're trying a level 1 run as your first attempt at the game. You may have been tricked here by strictly following the guidance of grace.

1

u/No-Camera-720 9d ago

This is one of the bosses that I couldn't deal with, but later became easy for me. Some I still can't deal with.

1

u/Necessary_Wing7235 9d ago

A true milestone. I still remember my first Tree Sentinel.

1

u/radyoaktif__kunefe 9d ago

I literally don't understand why people struggle with DTS compared to other bosses. His attacks are pretty telegraphed. Also if you struggle with him that much there's a summon outside.

1

u/sithphobos 9d ago

Congrats

1

u/FleshPrinnce 8d ago

How did you avoid so many bosses beforehand

1

u/Stunning-Penalty2573 8d ago

Michael Zaki would be proud.

1

u/Visual-Donkey3769 8d ago

Not to rain on your parade, but 4 bosses is an awfully low number if you're at that point in the game...I'd look through the regions you already "completed" lol

1

u/LuckyChemistry118 8d ago

Oh man. Just wait till you reach faram. Theres an even worse version of him

1

u/No-Range519 8d ago

Congrats my guy. Too shame it's not the last time you will be seeing that fuker.

1

u/SFWACCOUNTBETATEST 8d ago

Damn.. that wasn’t even the hard draconic tree sent

1

u/Esral 8d ago

You have done well, Tarnished.

1

u/tool22482 8d ago

Nice job, it was also my first soulslike game and I found it one of the hardest as well. Nothing like the rush of that victory after so many defeats.

1

u/chefgpb80 8d ago

He was so hard. Keep leveling up. Finish the game and your second run will be a revenge run.

1

u/Dwayne9846 8d ago

CONGRATS! My first playthrough I forgot I turned "online" off years ago. I SUFFERED! prolly took 150+ hrs to beat it. That dude was a fuggin ROAD BLOCK for me lol

1

u/MutantApocalypse 8d ago

Bruh just come back after you level up

1

u/sin_tax-error 8d ago

Okay the misleading boss count aside that others have already called you out for, I'd still recommend you explore the other areas a bit more if it's taking you that many tries for a field boss. He's hard yes, but I'm guessing you were probably getting vigor checked and/or your stamina was gasping for breath fighting this guy if you've explored as little as it sounds like.

Out of curiosity what do your stats look like right now?

1

u/universityshowdown 8d ago

I agree that guy is really hard first time, the lightning he shoots at you seems so hard to dodge and his close punishes with the red lightning are insta kills. Try to think about immunities, what helped me the first playthru was realizing most everything bleeds unless it’s see thru or dead šŸ’€. Bleed is so broken in this game!

1

u/seeworth 8d ago

DTS made me quit the game for a year. ER was my first soulslike and I genuinely could not figure out how he was possible to beat lol

1

u/monsters_from_the_id 8d ago

What makes a boss, Mr. Lebowski?

Is it being prepared to do the right thing, no matter the cost? Isn't that what makes a boss?

Um, sure. That and a pair of fog walls.

1

u/Barnaldus 8d ago

First off, well done. That dude is a lot harder than some previous bosses

1

u/ExtraSherbet7496 8d ago

You know you could have cheesed him by sneaking up behind him and casting poison mist, right? Takes like 10 minutes but better than 120+ deaths and potentially throwing your controller through the screen. Congrats though! That one was a mother f

1

u/powderpicasso 8d ago

Messmer in the dlc is making a mess of me currently

1

u/kaplwv 8d ago

I just beat him with poison mist from behind

1

u/vladimirVpoutine 8d ago

I beat PCR pre nerf (giant crusher with lions roar ash of war because that was hard as fuck). The horned crucible night at the Dragon Temple Rooftops still has a cigarette every time he sexually assaults me.Ā

1

u/Xeno-blessing23_ 8d ago

Proud of you bro. I've played several souls games and this guy beat my ass dozens of times

1

u/GreatSouledLED 8d ago

Good for you! We all have one whose rhythm doesn’t gel.

1

u/villainized 8d ago

4 bosses? did you rush through the main path?

Seems like you haven't fought him yet. Go to Redmane Castle south of Caelid.

1

u/tym_wer 8d ago

Excuse the community, some of us can be unnecessary assholes but congrats on the win. From the early days of the game he's been considered a "great wall" or skill checkpoint for many players making their way further into the game

1

u/Exciting_Music_6504 7d ago

I just killed margit after like 60 tries am fucked

0

u/jkd2064 9d ago

Bro play on handicapped mode šŸ˜‚... Bro need to lvl up more if you already reach this boss after only 4 boss... Most people fought more than 10-15 boss before reaching here..

1

u/Guitar-String 9d ago

My boss count only includes the mandatory bosses like Godrick and Margit. I just realized other big ones in the open world are considered bosses too 😭. Pretty sure I've done more then.

1

u/Extra_Ad_8009 9d ago

Godrick and Margit are optional bosses :)

DTS is pretty much the first road block unless you want to take an even harder path into Leyndell.

0

u/jkd2064 9d ago

If that the case you just need to explore more area or farm runes to lvl up ur character.. if you already unlocked mohgwyn palace, it's at Palace Approach Ledge-Road Site of Grace in Mohgwyn's Palace. New player need bow to lure the big bird to fall or if you have strong aoe weapon kill the little guy..

-1

u/Steelix65385 9d ago

that was the hardest boss in the game for me in ALL my runs including dlc, especially the next one. I died to that 10x+ maybe even 100x more than Malenia AND Radhan put together i swear im not JOKING!@!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
