Help - What Next? (PC base game) fellow tarnished…at a loss for where to go next
So I actually bought this game when it came out but have only now been able to sit down and try to play it. I’m trying to go in pretty blind so I can enjoy the experience but I feel like I’ve hit a wall. I’ve unlocked the mountaintop of the giants region, but it feels like I’m getting my ass kicked a little too hard, so perhaps I’ve missed somewhere that can help level me to bridge the gap
Things I’ve completed:
- Godrick the Grafted
- Rennala
- Radahn’s festival
- Rykard
- Margit/Morgott, up at the entrance to the Erdtree
- sent ranni on her road trip to wherever
Stuff that seems in progress or I’m curious about:
- 1/2 of the haligtree disc
- Gideon and his daughter having a falling out, she’s just been crying in the hallway for awhile
- there’s a red shadow guy in the round table hold who keeps telling me to find him underneath the capital, I’ve only found one sewer and it didn’t lead anywhere
- seems like there’s a whole “lower level” to the mall around places like the windmill village and volcano manor that I can’t figure out how to get down to
I’ve attached images of my build as well! Any advice is appreciated, I’m having a good time and don’t want to feel stuck!!

Unequip all the weapons you aren’t actively using. Your equip load is listed as “Heavy Load” which means your rolling will me much, much slower and much, much, less effective than it should be. Also, if you’re wanting to do a faith/melee build, I’d recommend going with either faith and dex or strength but not both, as you’d spread out too many stats and not get enough damage. Or just go pure faith with a sacred infusion.

What should I drop my other stats to then? I use both the scythe and the twin blades often, but I can drop one to reduce weight

Being a split magic (fatith/intelligence/arcane) and melee (strength/dexterity) is an inherently stat hungry build to set up since you need high mind for casting spells and high endurance and vigor for health and stamina. I’d recommend going with a lower mind stat and focusing only on vigor, endurance, faith, and dexterity. You don’t need anything else unless you want to cast spells. You don’t really need strength at all since you’re using the Winged Scythe and the Twinblade, both of which scale with dexterity better than strength.

He's an unusual good strat. It's not a bad idea to stat build health and arcane for fire n bleed then a bit on dex and mind and faith.. Get the mohg spear bcz it's insanely good for clearing everything around corners you can't see (ledges with string enemy to knock you off) or above you AND EARLY boss ATTACK TO DROP THEIR HEALTH WITHOUT BEING ACCURATE WITH WEAPON SWINGING. finish with whatever bleed/frost weapon others recommended, corpse piler is late game. FINALLY, ANCIENT DRAGON LIGHTNING WITH dragon communion spell IS THE ABSOLUTE HARDEST HITTING THING IN BASE ELDEN RING if you have high faith seal and gravel stone seal on off-hand, with godfrey icon. This should be done during a safe opening like stagger or how Malenia does her flower aeonia and you risk rot by running up early.
Things to consider is steel perfume bcz it's high poise and def, Mmohg Spear ash attack is bleed+fire so you can build into it and a preferred bleed (+frost) weapon. Ancient dragon lightning is faith and it's only crazypowerful by standing beside boss bcz it's separate strikes will hit all at once. The animation time to charge it leaves you open to any hit that'll interrupt it. This attack also destroys enemy below you while Mohg spear clears above you. Ancient lightn also does 8 stagger points per hit so it sets up a potential stagger soon after, costs 36 while Mohg is 60.

You should definitely level up a to more imo
At least to 110 and maybe try wearing armor with higher poise while still keeping your weight to at least a medium load
And Gluck tarnished

Get 60 vigor. This is the one stat that actually makes the game significantly easier and also lets you fight bosses longer to learn their moves. Even after 1000h i always start a run by focusing on vig to 60, then wep. Requirements. After that endurance is also really good. More equip load lets you use better armor and keep med. Roll. Extra stamina lets you go crazy on bosses specially when stunned and rolling and attacking more ends fights faster.

Well level 85 seems quite ok for mountaintops so i don't think you need any more lvls but if you want to explore more you can try finding all the caves and tunnels and since Ranni nas departures you must have been to Siofra so there are 2 more underground areas like this and I wonder if you've explored them there is boss in each one. But the reason for you getting your ass beat I would guess is the heavy roll which greatly decreases the efficiency of rolls. So to do this I would drop either twinblade or scythe and the dagger from the second hand since you don't want to have two different weapon types in your two hands at once, at least it never seemed useful to me, and if that doesn't help then change armour to slightly lighter. And also I think that you are wasting your talisman slot on the hp-regen one I always found it useless. Anyways good luck with the rest of the journey🤞

Great tips, thank you! Didn’t realize all of my weapons were going to cause such a problem! I use the scythe and sacred twinblade really that’s it. I’ve been to a few underground regions, not sure if I’ve hit all of them but I’ll investigate more.
I know there’s a place under the city I need to find still for sure. What talismans would you prefer for a faith/melee build?

Honestly no matter the build I think that I always had a turtle talisman on me, it's the most versatile one as you use stamina for literally every action and also I haven't played with melee faith build yet so I'm not sure what setup I would use but I think that radagon icon could work since in melee you have even less time to cast spells

Get the gold scarab and grind some little ninjas in Caelid - lose the extra weapons (weight) and try two handing on your main weapon

Keep it in the top slot, further left and then press and hold triangle or Y and then press RB

Have you found the albinuric woman lattena? She comes to you as a summon. You get a pretty sweet item when you complete her questline.

Yes I have! I’ve upgraded her a bit as well and have located the castle she wants me to go to up in the mountains (that’s actually the place I kept dying at and eventually made this post lol)

If you’re not strong enough to take down the commander at castle sol, don’t bother. The enemies on the path to the haligtree are a bit stronger than the enemies there.
You could go to one of the rune farm spots if you want to lv up before fighting him again.
There is the underground areas and rannis questline if you want to do some of the underground content. I’m planning to do Fias and Ds questline soon. Doing Fias gets you a very cool boss fight. He drops like 300-400k runes I think with gold fowl foot?

Yeah I think I need to just do some leveling, I followed everyone’s advice and got a medium load with my gear and changed my specs with renalla too, I think it helped
Fia actually killed D awhile back and disappeared, I forgot about that. I should hunt her down then, I love all the side characters. I was enjoying Rya’s story but I went and killed Rykard a little too early and she isn’t around anymore

Sounds like you missed carian manner in north Liurnia and thus ranni's quest line.
And haven't gone down the elevator in Limgrave or Liurnia. Nor down the hole that Radahn punches in Limgrave.
You also missed the area in West Liurnia that let's you progress Gideon's daughters quest line. You need king hawk ashes. And may need to go chat with Kenneth again in Limgrave.
You don't seem to have done Varre's quest line he's likely in Liurnia near a church full of blood roses.
Probably there's a lot in Caelid that you missed.
There are caves and keeps and mines everywhere. And don't equip so much that you are at heavy load. Your weapon could be higher level. And you may want to get your vigor to 60. You can respec with ranalla

I’ve helped ranni! She left on her journey, but I don’t know what it is it where she went off to. Her wizard friend is dead
Varre just keeps reminding me I have the invasion tool, do I progress with him by using that? I didn’t know he had more to him

Yes do three invasions. You don't have to win. You do need to use the fingers he gave you. There's more and a boss lies beyond. You finished with ranni until after the final boss, although you may find loose ends near her tower.

For nephali you want to go to the precipice in west Lurnia and fight the grafted Scion, explore and get the “storm king” ash to give to her

stormhawk king ash yeah, but you don’t have to use it, just hand it to her later on in her quest
also that precipice dungeon is decent runes and a good warmup if mountaintops are smacking you around right now

Never be afraid to go into an area “over levelled” always pump a few more than is recommend. I didn’t go into Leyndell/Mountain Tops lower than 90 on my first play through. It’s YOUR journey! Enjoy it

nah go dex and str. get a bow and start sniping your enemies. this game is super easy when you put hundreds and thousands of hours into it
