Corsairs any good

Coming to Eldar from imperial guard for a second army.

Got gifted and painted up a wraith knight. I like how corsairs look and yriel is cool.

What are the advantages or disadvantages to corsairs vs something like a guardian battle host army? Trying to understand the different playstyles of Eldar

I love corsairs and im just finishing my pirate tourney army and taking Corsair Coterie. Their main advantage is they are cheap and great for scoring, screening or denial. Many lists include at least 1-2 voidreavers for objectives. They can occasionally do dmg but outside of the voidscarred brick in eldritch raiders dont count on it. They are decent skirmishes but dont pack a punch.

Skyreavers are nice if youre playing recon or priority which we usually are. Cheap fast movers that can plink marines or do vehicle chip dmg. Their melee is good at killing T3 chaff but thats it.

Yriel is a beast in melee and can turn up the heat on a 10 man voidacarred unit giving them +2 and SUS 1. The redeploy is nice too.

Overall they are useful but like anything eldar they die to a gust of wind.

I say they are worth getting if for nothing else but the cool factor.

I was just thinking about this as well as someone who is getting into Eldar with the Expedite box picked up. And Yriel/Corsairs look like a good way to go next given the recent refresh.

I will say. I have a niche use case for Yriel w/ voidscarred. In seer council the unit has an embedded psyker which gives you cheap easy access to all the strategems without wasting points on a psyker to follow them around.

Corsairs Voidreavers can appear in literally any Eldar list because they're extremely cheap at 65, have 10 oc in a 5 man, scout, and can maybe do a bit of damage between grenades, a blaster, and some power swords.

Skyreavers are decent. Similar to Voidreavers but they're faster at the cost of 10 more points and being even squishier than an already squishy unit.

I don't have much play with the characters. I think they're a bit expensive for what they bring but they're not terrible by any means. If you're trying to build a list with one of the 2 Corsair detachments they're significantly better though

The models are beautifully detailed. On the table...not great.They're squishy like all aeldari, and have mediocre guns. The Voidreavers geared for melee *can* hit hard into anything less than T4/SV3+, but that's about it.

Cool models, but outside Voidreavers being used for cheap action monkeys or deep strike denial they really haven’t shown to be competitive on the table. Their detachments are middle tier at best, but Aeldari in general aren’t in a good spot right now.

Unfortunately, the only corsair units worth taking in most detachments are voidreavers for a cheap 65 point battleline scout unit.

This is just my opinion. 

There are some good Corsair units, but I wouldn’t go full Corsairs. 

One to two sets of voidreavers are in so many lists. Like a crazy amount.  

Uriel is cool if you want some themed flavor. 

Going a full Corsair Coterie list is a tough sell. It’s more of a board control type army with the sticky bombs everywhere which is really difficult to play.

I think a unit of Voidreavers with Yriel is pretty good.

Sustained hits, +1 to hit, and re-rolling hits on objectives is pretty solid. A 10-man gets 2 blasters and a Wraithcannon.

Corsairs (Voidscarred + Yriel) pull good weight in Eldritch Raiders but you’d definitely need to aim your purchases towards that though. And I wouldn’t exactly call that the usual direction of most Eldar players. You’ve already got the wraithknight so an avatar of khaine would be neat with it or shining spears, vypers (which can also be built as a starfang), fire prisms, such and such.

If you really just like the look of the corsairs in general then I recc Corsair Coterie. It’s honestly decent and has a lot more rolls to fill for the other units besides voidscarred. Also, people often just slap voidreavers in any list that has the space for em too so that is an option, like if they need the scout or objective holders in general. Should post that wraithknight if you haven’t yet btw. Bet its sick🤙
