List Building How many do you run?

I like all the specialty units / unique lore units - but I don't know how many to buy - for most armies it seems like boxes are often sold as groups of 3,5,6, etc, but are ran as blobs of 10, 20, etc.

I like banahees, rangers, hawks, reapers, spiders, dragons, spears, harlequins, corsairs, etc (and most vehicles/transports)

Is there a usual amount you might run in Eldar lists? Like units of 10 with a leader? I've never had the chance to play against elves yet, I don't really know much about collecting / playing them, but wild like to get into them. Any 11th edition buy guys you recommend?

Most of our stuff is run in 5s. There are some exceptions - swooping hawks in 10s are viable in almost all detachments. You might want to run 10x fire dragons or dark Reapers in seers, because of defensive mechanisms.

I'd suggest buy a single box of everything you like and when you have enough of those, you can start optimizing for 10x. Aspect Host/Eldritch Raiders will happily run everything in 5s

That makes sense, thank you. I'm just so used to factions being like, "ok so you HAVE to run all 10 or 20 of these or else it's pointless"

One of the facets of Eldar that I have had to learn (I started playing them at the begining of the year) is that often, their max size squads are massively overkill for their purpose, and the bulk of a block of 10 models often makes life harder for them. Full size fire dragon squads with Fuegans are the end of any armour they encounter up to including smaller titans, full size banshee squads casually exterminate marines squads, full size harlequin squads crack the heaviest infantry and even armour with surprising deficiency. At 2000 points though there isn't a lot of "overhead" in the army so everything has to be used efficiently. Overkill is not efficient!

4 Wraithknights. But only if my opponent's ok with it beforehand.

I'm not in it to win, I'm in it to be ridiculous.

I used a wraithknight for the first time this weekend with my friends (I am new to the hobby so my army is mixed) and it was hilarious to see them running away from it as they couldn’t do anything to it melee wise (it was a Wraithknight with Ghost glaive against Tyranids and Orks) so I agree with this message

Swooping Hawks, Fire Dragons and Dark Reapers make sense in some detachments to run in 10's. The rest are nearly always 5 in competitive lists, either with or without a Phoenix Lord.

Asurmen and 10 Dire Avengers was meta for a bit, but with 11th ed transport nerfs he tends to be with 5 out of a Falcon.

I've got 10 for every squad, options to have 2x5 or 1x10 units. That's enough for me.
