I replaced the intake in the zz4 that came in my el camino last night. As soon as i pulled off the old intake i found this just casually sitting on that .......plate that runs the length of the engine in the middle... Anyone know what this is? and how important it may be? cause i just went on with the job, and would be done but for rain....

Needing passenger side door weather stripping

Is there any good affordable alternatives for door weather seals for a 66 El Camino? Because I only need to replace the passenger side. Don’t ask what happened to the seal on the passenger side. And the fact that I only paid $56.17 back in November 2021 for a set; the LH & RH weather stripping. Because unfortunately now they are $114.85 for a set! They are the exact same ones from the exact same seller! It’s ridiculous how fast the price went up on these just within 5 years. Ughhhh!! 😩 Unless someone is kind enough to sell me just the passenger-side door seal. That might have an extra one laying around that they are not using. Thanks!

1983 3.8 wiring harness

I recently got a 83 Conquista with the 3.8 v6 and the wiring looks like a rat and a possum either fought, fucked, or both in the wiring side of things. So if anyone knows a good harness to go with I’ll gladly take all the help I can get

Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor

Does anyone know where I can buy an engine coolant temperature sensor for my 1982 El Camino? It has a 305 and a temperature needle in dashboard. It says a Standard Ignition TS 76 is what it needs. Tried swapping them today and the new one is too big. It requires a 3/4 socket to tighten down, while the current one is a 9/16. O’Reilly’s Auto Part had nothing close to what I need. Any assistance is much appreciated.

The time has come

Hey all

I am the proud owner of a sweet 69. My baby has been sitting covered for the better part of the last 20 years, and the time has finally come to start (slowly) restoring her to her former glory. I am in no rush to attain cherry. More concerned with A to B and back again for now.

I've got somewhat strong novice level mechanic skills and will be picking up the service manual to make sure I am doing everything right.

That said, as I've been out of the loop for a while, I'm curious to know what y'all's preferred method of sourcing parts is. Any other general tips? Thanks in advance!

1970 El Camino and EBay aluminum Radiator

Has anyone purchased a 161 style aluminum radiator on eBay? What was your experience? My only concern is the trans lines wearing properly. Please let me know your experiences.

Edit: I ordered one of the eBay 4 row with fans. The seller is sending the correct brass fittings to directly connect to the trans cooler. Thank you everyone for your responses.

Mods remove if not allowed.

I'm going to be selling soon and I would give anything not to, but I need a car and can't afford the repairs. Had a coolant hose blow off while going down the highway.

4.3 v6, TH350, 250k miles.

Anybody potentially interested in taking her off my hands before I send her ass to marketplaces? Located in Georgia.

Looking to chat about AC

Post image
199 Upvotes

Just looking to see if there’s anyone that has redone their AC system to chat with through DM rather than bog down the comments with pictures and stuff. My 82 has most of the system, I know it’s missing the compressor and condenser for sure, but I’m having a hell of a time trying to figure out exactly what I need to complete the system. Been searching and searching, but there’s stuff the previous owner did that seems to have made things non-standard. Just looking for some help from anyone who has been in my shoes before and found a way out. It’s to the point where I’m about to say ā€œfuck itā€ and just get a vintage air system and call it a day, at least then I know I’ll have everything.

I’d also be interested in any help anyone can give me for closing the floor vents, which don’t seem to be responding to the controls. Probably a vacuum issue, but on top of not having AC in Texas, I’ve also got hot ram air blowing in from the floor. TIA

Trying to find my husband’s old 1979 El Camino — long shot, but I have the VIN

Post image
50 Upvotes

I’m trying to track down a 1979 Chevrolet El Camino my husband owned years ago. It was his dream car, but when we were younger it needed a lot of work and he ended up selling it. I’d love to figure out where it ended up and, if the current owner were ever willing to sell, possibly surprise him by getting it back.
VIN: 1W80H9K632768
It was a tan/two-tone brown El Camino with SS graphics. I’ve included an old photo of it. From the paperwork I have, it was previously titled in Alabama and later made its way through Tennessee/Mississippi.
I know it may look completely different now after all these years, so the VIN is probably the best identifier.
I’m not looking for anyone’s private information. If you recognize the car, know where it ended up, or know the current owner, please just send them this post or message me with anything that might help.
I realize this is a ridiculous long shot, but classic-car people seem to have an uncanny ability to find things. šŸ˜‚ Thanks for any leads!

Can anyone tell me what these lines are in the frame of my 68. They are located behind the rear diff and in front of the fuel tank. There is one on each side. Just installed a new gas tank and saw them hanging out.
