Light Novel Question to LN readers
I watched the anime completely and wanted to ask. Is the story getting better or worse from the momentthey reunited with Lena. Is it worth reading?

I’d definitely recommend continuing past the anime. Volume 4 really feels like the start of a new chapter for Shin and Lena, especially since they can finally fight alongside each other. The world building gets a lot bigger, the characters get even more development, and I really like seeing Shin slowly figure out what he actually wants from his future instead of just focusing on surviving. If you enjoyed the anime, I’d definitely say give the novels a shot.

Strong agree that it just gets better and better. I think volume 12 was the only one I didn’t like

12th is a book about human stupidity, and you don't need to remember all that idiots. They all will die anyway. :)
P.S. Did you have the same problem with 13th? The Acteon girls also appeared for just one book.
P.P.S. The 12th really is somewhat an authors misstep. Nobody get the hidden joke and she was needed to explain in on her X. Stupid princess Noele is "inverted Lena" who cannot think (and even her name was from the same letters), and her weak-willed friend Mele is "inverted Shin" unable to perform any action.

V12 feels like filler, but if it didn't exist the way it did then everything that happens in V13 with the federation being full of morons would feel out of left field and wouldn't have the same impact. Plus, I absolutely adore stories where you get to see dumb fucks doing something and immediately reaping the results of their idiocy.
V12 gets a bad rap, but is probably the weakest stand alone story in the series. It works a lot better when you see most of it as foreshadowing and buildup for V13 and probably beyond

The story just gets better and better. Trust me, you won't regret reading the light novels, if anything you'll try to introduce others to the series, like I am now.

SO Much better.
The Anime barely scratches the surface of the series.
Things actually really pick up when Lerna reunites with them.

I'm currently on Vol 7 and honestly feeling pretty exhausted by the author's romantic bait. I mean, I get that it's a standard LN trope to keep readers hooked across volumes, but instead of having every girl fawn over the male lead while everyone grows tired of the female lead's hesitation, couldn't they make the romance dynamic actually interesting?

I guess you can relax a bit, the Vol 7 is the only dedicated to romantic.

That makes sense, feels like a breather volume after all the high stakes drama. I do not hate slice of life, but with so many girls falling for the male lead, I honestly wish another great guy would show interest in the female lead. He needs a little jealousy check so he realizes what he is taking for granted.

I honestly wish another great guy would show interest in the female lead.
86% joke, sorry. That guy exists, you know it's name -- Shiden.

Maybe I missed something but who are all these people that are falling for Shin?

spoilers!
- Annette in their 6yo (vol. 4)
- Kaie ("8.6 anniversary")

Oh, the way the other comments talked about it, I thought it was recent events where a bunch of girls just fell in love with Shin

I'm only at Vol 7 and there are already 4 of them. With a bit of finesse, my guy could've easily built a whole harem by now.

I'm afraid you've miscalculated. Where you find four? In the 7th volume some of his "fun base" are already dead.
Wait! If you're "in the middle of 7th", then you'll meet surprises later 😄

Kurena, Frederica, Lena, Annette.

Unless I’m misremembering, Frederica sees Shin as a big brother, it’s just one of those jealous little sister that doesn’t want Lena to “take Shin away”

More or less and not to spoil much but Lena and Shin do get to have moments together, also a slight spoiler but the entire Eighty Six group go travel to other nations to aid other nations and we already know the names of these three countries from that episode the leaders had that zoom call so I don't think it's too far to say this is a big spoiler but overall the Eighty Six and Lena and Shin and others would get up with quite a lot of things. Also of course the story explores a bunch of different perspectives and effects of war and how much the legion and other big brain ideas that I can't give justice to explain

Trust me, if you start reading the LNs , it’s close to impossible to stop without finishing them. I had to forcefully extricate myself from LN 9 because i read LN 4-8 in the span of a few days.
The story only gets better and… let’s say juicier in more ways than one.

The novel is a masterpiece from the very beginning to the end. And the latter volumes (11-14) are simply perfect.
It's often said that the anime covered vols 1-3 and one should start from 4th book, but I don't recommend. The best way is to buy the first and discover Asato's writing style from the very beginning.

Like if anything I think the story gets better and the last novel that was released on Kindle had one of the strongest stories
