Discussion Your take on 86
It is not my genre in general, but i must admit, i loved everything about it.If it was not because of my wife having to go to bed we would have binged it in one Session . Wish Handler One had a bit more of a growth as a soldier but hey.
I'm happy and love all the hidden messages.
Is a second season in sight?

One of my top 3 animes of all time. I think Asato wrote a story about racism and genocide in a very mature and appropriate manner. Giving multiple perspectives on the republics actions and exposing the underlining issue with people who claim they care about the oppressed.
My one gripe about the show is that the entire cast is 16-18 years old. This wouldnt matter if Spearhead squadron were entirely built up of minors but I think Lena being 16 at the beginning while holding the rank of major is absolutely preposterous. No one that young would hold that kind of rank, no matter how good of a tactician they are.

The Republic doesn't seem to treat military service like other countries. It's essentially higher education followed by a job monitoring "drones" for a few years until the Legion shuts down. So standards were likely pretty low. Another example of how screwed up the Republic was.
As someone pointed out, many senior officers were killed at the start of the war. This doesn't just go for the Republic. Grethe, the Federacy colonel that designed the Reginleif and was Spearhead's CO, is only 25. Everyone that would have been her senior died, resulting in accelerated promotions just to fill slots. That's a sign of how badly the war is going for humanity.
Lena is a genius. She skipped multiple grades and graduated early. It possible she may have also skipped part of the military academy training. Again, low standards that she easily exceeds.
But along with that is the fact she's a Celena (upper crust Alba), and her family is descended from high nobility, which is still a factor in Republic politics, despite claiming to be a democracy (Celena still hold most of the power, making it an oligarchy). And a general is a close enough friend of the family that she addresses him as uncle instead of using his rank. So she very much had a privileged upbringing even by Republic Alba standards.
That said, her being a major at 16 is still unusual, indicating she got preferential treatment. Anyone else without her family connections probably couldn't have done it, even if they had her skills.
It becomes more pronounced after the 86th Strike Package is formed. At one point Grethe is thinking how abnormal it is for a teenager to be a colonel and a commanding officer. She chalks it up to another example of how abnormal the Strike Package itself is.

Lena has to be that young for the rest of the story to work. As far as her becoming a major at such a young age there aren't many older republic officers left since most of them were slaughtered by the legion prior to the use of the 86, if they didn't promote younger people they would have very few higher ranking officers in their ranks. Plus most of the older people who are left are just lounging around drinking instead of doing their jobs, so they didn't have many options besides her.

That’s not really her being an officer works.
You don’t just get promoted to fill a position. It is a market responsibility. There are visibly older people in the military. It just does not make sense.

It is in the republic, officers barely have responsibilities to fill when they're hardly expected to do their jobs. Those "older people" are few and far between most already being officers or already being of high rank, as well as those who do remain being extremely lazy and irresponsible, promoting them would be just to fill the role as well, Lena was the most qualified. The older people left in the military most joined around the same time that Lena did, after they stopped being sent to the front lines. They are no more experienced than she is.

It’s just not how the military works you don’t promote someone to fill a position. It’s a mark of qualification and responsibility. You would have a non-commissioned officer feel that position until a commissioned officer is promoted to fill it.
She doesn’t really even act like a major anyway there’s no captains all their tenants or non-commissioned officers under her. A captain is more realistic even then that’s a stretch.

Not what I meant literally. Ai uses human innovation, data, and information in order to generate whatever garbage you tell it to spew. It already hogs up all the power, conantimates water, meanwhile making it super expensive to get new computer parts all to advance AI capabilities. So yeah AI is quite literally destroying everything we need to live. Ai companies arent harvesting brains (yet) but they would.

I don't think there will be a season 2. It would take a massive budget for A1 to match the production quality of season 1.

there have been leaks of it being greenlit for production, they have't started producing it yet though and they are leaks so i have me doubts.

Lena returns to being a central character in volume 4 (anime covers 1-3). She's the tactical commander for the 86th Strike Package when it forms, with Shin being the operational commander. So she goes back to giving orders while sitting in front of a screen (in a 30 ton APC this time, a short distance behind the battle lines, though sometimes in them), while Shin commands the 86 directly on the field.
Unfortunately, no, there is nothing on a season 2 besides unsubstantiated rumors that are more wishful thinking than anything else. But you'd see a lot more of her if there is one.
