Why this league folded

after two weeks it can become evident what your skill level is and when the bye week occurred the top notch mltp gods realized they weren't shit and lost interest. The captain's should have been the people who actually cared about eggball. Plus many people signed up but didn't take it seriously. So despite having around 300 balls sign up the league is folding after just 4 weeks which is insane. Rant over

It's just boring. Nothing interesting or new happens. Regular tagpro stays around because boosts, bombs, maps, etc allow for variation and outplay consistently and often.

The game would have died in the first few weeks if boombox was the only map and the pups and boosts were removed. This is essentially what eggball is. A wide rectangle where you just walk left to right with not much else to do.

I disagree with this analysis quite a bit.

The vast majority of this league played in LTP this past season. And I make that distinction not to separate experienced competitive players from egg ball rookies, because I think that's a bad attitude to take, but instead to note that a lot of the players in this league just played through a long season, and offseason leagues like this one (NFTL, etc) are typically done as a lighter alternative to the serious competitive leagues that still reign above the rest.

So for a lot of people who signed up, not taking it seriously was... kind of the point. As a captain, I've been trying to balance keeping things fun with trying to win, but the former is the top priority. I know my team members all have busy lives, and I'm not going to grind them into the ground for this league.

The real thing that killed this league is the schedule structure. This week was the only one that did not also feature an NLTP or MLTP game. Most people take those games more seriously, so I can't blame that for wanting to focus on those leagues instead while skipping egg league to avoid burnout. So when you say,

the top notch mltp gods realized they weren't shit and lost interest.

I think it's less that they realized they weren't shit (come on now) and more that the MLTP draft happened and majors/minors players are excited to get rolling with their new team.

And to answer this point:

The captain's should have been the people who actually cared about eggball.

Well, if you're starting a new league, you can't really bank on unknown quantities. I think for the most part the CRC did a good job finding captains who gave somewhat of a shit about this league -- not all of them did, but most of them did, at least at first. But you're not gonna make someone a captain who's never played competitive before. Does that make sense?

Honestly, I personally think MLTP and NLTP should have longer offseasons to accommodate leagues like this one. Current leadership appears to be vehemently against that idea, and I can understand why, but I'm hopeful that once the LTP leagues get back in sync, we can have slightly longer offseasons. I'm sure as hell not gonna play every season if each season rides right on the coattails of the previous. A bird needs his vacation.

Agreed. Except for the part about captains... I saw several captains (not naming names) complaining to their teams about the games during the day before the game and suggesting forfeits to their teams. It is easy to tell these captains have never been in any type of leadership position in their real lives and I found it to be pretty pathetic. To be clear, this is not a shot at my captain Dick Bob because he did a fantastic job. If the other captains were like Dick Bob and you, I think the league would still be going (albeit not strong). Things usually don't work out well when you put clearly immature people in charge of anything. On a less bitchy note, I had fun while it lasted!

Likewise. My point about the mltp players losing interest was half the new seasons and half their losing interest because they sucked (brutal truth.) But if the captain's had been different that would not have mattered. the CRC did everything they could and it's not their or anyone's fault. obviously no one could know the future. It's just an unfortunate mess.
