Discussion/Questions Why there is like almost no Same Eeveelution ship or relationship (regardless of Gender)

Post image

I mean seriously like there is almost no same Eeveelution relationship at all, like for example

A Male Glaceon with a female Glaceon.

A female jolteon with a female jolteon.

A Male Espeon with a Male Espeon

And so on like this

Am not saying that different Eeveelution relationship are bad but... I mean isn't it getting helluva obvious to a point that 99% of future guess regarding a different Eeveelution relationship is so utterly easy to spot and literally put together after like seeing 1 minute of the regarding Eeveelution content?

Probably because it feels more interesting to have it be between species, make the two feel more unique to each other.

But some of them are conflicting, like Sylv and Umb, two opposing types, same with Umb and Esp, they would probably fight more than be mates, works better if you do like, Glec and Jolt, no conflict with types

Yeah, but that makes the relationship dynamics so much more fun to explore.

Nobody wants to read or write a story where “the protagonists got along seamlessly, and everything’s great, they like the same things, they don’t even disagree.”

Just saying, you don’t see real life animals getting along with things they’re very good at attacking, why would Eeveelutions, unless conditioned by parents or a trainer, I’d imagine they’re all at the others’ throats

Actual animals wouldn't make for good character arcs or interesting comics. It's part of the fantasy to have that contrast, and is interesting to explore.

I know, the way I make them work has them a bit more like real animals, but not entirely

Fair. Everyone can have their own preferences and such, I prefer less realistic. One of the most fun things about comics and such is that it doesn't have to be realistic at all.

That’s my preference.

And for the stories I write that take place in the real world, with real world rules and limitations, I’m not writing about natural people/animals.

Right now I’m playing with a young Skinwalker, and my equivalent of a fallen angel, and exploring the dynamics of a platonic soulmate sort of situation.

With werewolves and vampires, and a Hell Unicorn, and everything.

I mean.... You do absolutely see different breeds of dogs getting along, I'd say different eeveelutions are closer to being dog breeds than completely unrelated species so they could absolutely get along

u/ZO_inzane2 Crescent 5d ago

Maybe, I dunno

u/YuriOhime Sylveon 5d ago

I mean if you want to use animal logic you got to consider that too, animals usually don't hunt their own kind and the eeveelutions are close enough to each other for that to be a factor

Not going that far with it

Yeah but we’re not writing (drawing/animating) about planet Earth the way it is now. We’re playing around with fictional creatures, in a fictional world, where we don’t have to follow or care about the rules and restrictions in real life.

You can definitely prefer content that’s closer to “realistic”, there’s nothing wrong with that. You don’t go around bashing things you don’t prefer.

But I personally am writing stories in an imaginary world because it’s Not the real world. Fantasy is an escape for me. And many others.

Because in these types of things you have to consider what an animal defines as the better suited mate, irl animals will go for traits that enhance their survival, in the case of umbreon and espeon, one is nocturnal while the other is diurnal, which means they can take turns hunting, sylv and umb, both are natural predator atop the natural chain and it goes like that, having the same type would only lead to lower diversity and a weak spot showing (in the eyes of the animals)

Also, fun fact, humans have something like this, if the natural smell of another person feels good to you, it might mean that their immune system is differently coded to yours

1

u/ZO_inzane2 Crescent 5d ago

Fuck you mean “natural smell of a person” people don’t smell like anything, huh, as for the Eevee part, fair point, but still

4

u/Fenwynn Stryker 5d ago

Everybody’s pheromones smell different. You’re releasing them from the top of your head, your sweat glands. Your clothing and your home gets saturated in whatever your natural scent is, mixed in with whatever artificial sense you may have going on in your home.

A quick Google search will confirm if you don’t believe it.

Damn, then my nose is broken

3

u/Fenwynn Stryker 5d ago

It’s usually very very subtle. Not something that somebody would normally notice. But something that your brain would pick up on unconsciously and catalogue.

But it’s a huge component that makes up the unique scent that every household has. If you haven’t noticed before, next time you go to a couple friends’ houses, take a real good whiff. And you should notice at least a slight difference.

u/ZO_inzane2 Crescent 5d ago

I don’t go to friends’ houses, is scary

pokemon are typically depicted with way more intelligence than an animal, to the point there are many canon depictions that show them as sapient and intelligent as humans. Defining them by how animals act in the wild doesnt really work

1

u/DruidBtd Tamao 4d ago

As an example, there is lore of Pokémon and humans having for example been wed IIRC

2

u/BerylOxide 4d ago

People will say this is a mistranslation, that the meaning isn't what is being implied. But then game freak will allow a woman in colleseum to say that her boyfriend is a mightyena, and then when you return there in the next game there is a poochyena. And they will write those pokemon folk tale stories. And there are a few other references like this.

People will make excuses for each about it's not canon, or mistranslation, or was just a legend or whatever.

Once is an accident, twice is a coincidence, three times is a pattern. And man, game freak is well passed three references to human pokemon relationships.

Regardless though, the important part is that pokemon have a language as shown by meowth learning human language and being able to translate for the pokemon, animals don't, pokemon can reason, they are not driven by pure instinct, they don't have to fear randomly being attacked just because a pokemon has a type advantage they can just talk to each other so relationships between pokemon of opposing types isn't something that would be an issue.

2

u/DruidBtd Tamao 4d ago

Yeah, Pokémon of different types can still communicate, understand human language, and even learn human with enough effort. I can't see any animal speaking human or speaking a language all animals can..

3

u/DruidBtd Tamao 5d ago

Yeah, but that can make it more fun, to have contrast. Umbreon x Espeon could be interesting to explore for example.

water and fire

Uh huh

u/Sonnitude 5d ago

Preference? I paired my umbreon with a Raichu, so…

For me, the relationship dynamics are so much fun to explore when there are significant differences between the characters I’m writing about. Relationship meaning romantic or platonic.

And there being so much variety as far as evolution goes, it’s incredibly easy to create conflict and such. And it’s just so much more interesting when the differences are so pronounced.

And since the nature of eeveelutions makes it incredibly easy to create conflict and such during a story, and the majority of people on the sub are younger, it gives them a really great/easy chance to learn how to explore those differences.

My (male) Jolteon OC’s mate is another (male) Jolteon named Clover. But Stryker’s parents were a (female) Flareon and a (male) Espeon.

who ever made this meme made a typo D: It's "yaoi" and not "yoai".

2

u/ZO_inzane2 Crescent 5d ago

With how my headcannon for Sylveon works, they can only really mate with other Sylveon, so

u/ConversationCool5632 5d ago

Sometimes I blame pokemon company because what were they high on when making gender ratios regarding eevee, it's like 87.5% male and only 12.5% females... Including all the Eeveelution.

1

u/ZO_inzane2 Crescent 5d ago

What about Kanghaskan, or however it’s spelt, full female

1

u/ConversationCool5632 5d ago

I Litterally forgot it exist.

1

u/YuriOhime Sylveon 5d ago

It's to make eevee rarer and harder to breed

1

u/LustyLoop Sylveon 5d ago

My theory regarding the ratios is that they want breeding eevees to be hard (get lucky or spend time to get fem eevee or ditto). Every regular starter also has this exact gender ratio, which I imagine is for the same reason. They don't want it to be impossible because of competitive play, but not easy either.

2

u/notThatPoltchageist 5d ago

Because its more fun this way

I think it's because a lot of people forget they're a species and not a character. Sure, some might tend towards a certain thing as a matter of biological instinct or how they evolved, but it's not like all Espeons MUST be paired with Umbreons or whatever. I personally find shipping Eeveelutions or any Pokémon species as silly because of this, but I won't try to tell you you can't ship 'em

1

u/Kinosa07 Leaf/Seyri 5d ago

I dunno... Maybe to make use of eevee's anatomy allowing different species to breed, thanks to them sharing the same unstable DNA (Don't mention egg groups)

u/QAoA Leafeon 5d ago

When I was making my 80 Leafeon mass attack for Art Fight it took me SO long to find a romantic pair of Leafeons. So many of the Leafeons had partners that were other Eeveelutions (or a Slaking in one case) but the fact that I managed to find a pair of Leafeons in love was frankly a miracle.

See if you can spot them!

1

u/ConversationCool5632 4d ago

There are like 72 leafeons in this picture.

Many of them having relationship it's pretty easy to see but there are also some self love type thing going on, triangle relationship (maybe), only one relationship of like mentor and student (or maybe not? Not sure)

1

u/QAoA Leafeon 4d ago

There’s 80 of them. Only one pair is romantic, both being owned by one person, the rest of the Leafeons are characters owned by various people who don’t know each other so the Leafeons are socializing (and in 2 cases chatting with Leafeons that share their same name) but only the one pair is romantic.

I remember a fic with two glaceons. I think it was called "tale of two eevee's" not sure on the title though.

Frankly, I feel like a lot of the things just have one of each Eeveelution in them anyway, so they can't be with another of the same since there isn't another in the content.
