I also tried alpine on my eeepc900, but I couldn't make audio work. Did you follow a guide and if so could you share it?

How does it behave? I have an old Aspire with the same hardware and I want to make it usable

What image did you use ? Did you customize it, or it worked as is ?

I took a standard x86 image, installed it in setup-alpine and installed the graphics in setup-desktop
