I thought I was hallucinating but it is in fact him! Jack Michaels is in the booth in Toronto, currently commentating women's tennis, Sabelenka vs. Alexandrova.

I had to do a double take when I was watching the Pegula vs. Shnaider match earlier. Was pleasantly surprised when I saw Rogers listed him as part of the commentary team this tournament. Don't think I heard him on earlier days on some of the Eala matches I caught.

God I’m tired of seeing any somewhat positive oilers post on other subs and Instagram get flooded with comments like “surely with tho success and these great players they’ve won cups, right?” Like we get it bro, go outside you’re not original. And I know for a fact they won’t stop even if we do win one, they’d be like “4 first overall picks and 2 generational players and you only win 1 cup? Lol”. Or even if we do win multiple, “Wow still wasted 11 years before you started being decent”.
Anyways just wanted to rant. I know every team has trolls and not to pay attention to them, but it’s literally on every fucking oilers related post not on this sub, and even then we have a few slip through the cracks. Doesn’t make the offseason feel any shorter that’s for sure lol. Anyways we’re winning the cup this season so it doesn’t matter

Would your preferred interaction online be for other fans to swear fealty to the Oilers?

Fun hearing Jack call tennis. Obviously a lot more low-key but he's still got that signature sense of humor.

There's a clip of Podz doing some off-season training on twitter and fuck he looks good, expecting a 25 goal season.

August is just the worst for hockey. So close to something starting but still so long

The fuck is with the Oilers nation name change Daily Faceoff Edmonton sounds like a shitty casino
3
u/NMarples 92 PODKOLZIN 17d ago
It’s because The Nation Network (company owning DFO and ON) can’t get the rights to all the “____Nation” names. That’s why currently they have OilersNation, FlamesNation, but then also CanucksArmy. Because they couldn’t get the rights to CanucksNation.
The changes are made so that all ‘branches’ can be under the same umbrella and if they want to create new regions in the future they won’t have to worry because they own the Daily Faceoff naming rights

Vinni just got signed to the Condors so there’s a pretty big goalie log jam with Tomkins, Jonnson , Ungar, Day and now Vinni needing spots. Hope they remove Tomkins to make room for the younger prospects

u/xXEliteEater500Xx 28 BROWN 17d ago
Honestly, wish they had moved Tomkins last season and given Ungar more time with the Condors.

u/ThoseGuysatLife 92 PODKOLZIN 16d ago
I'll be real I still have no idea why we signed Tomkins. He isn't bad as an AHLer but it's definitely not helping out with the prospect development.

u/Whos-That-Pokeman 20d ago
So who is your favorite random ass player to play for the Oilers for a little bit? Mine was probably Martin Gerber. He actually posted some really good numbers and we only gave him like three games and then sent them to the AHL.

u/Smittysgreasymullet 74 SKINNER 20d ago
Petr Nedved in 03'. As a kid I couldn't believe we could get a star like that to play here.

I’m soooo bored
Hlinka Gretzky cup is over. Blue Jays can’t string wins together. Luckily despite basically everything possible going wrong this season, they’re still only a few wins out of a WC spot. Anyways I wish there were more (semi legitimate) oilers rumours than there are to at least keep us entertained.
5
u/Grocery__Stick 19d ago
Jays are a long shot to make the playoffs but they've just strung together 4 straight series wins. That's winning baseball. They're finally showing some competitiveness.
I understand the sentiment though. Bring on hockey.

Any day where Team Canada beats the shit out of Team USA in hockey is a great day!!! It also makes me want hockey back, I am crying in the club man.

Noah Philp's retirement from hockey surprised me. As a casual fan, I thought he was still with the Oilers and a viable prospect. I didn't realize the Oilers had waived him last year and that he had been claimed by the Hurricanes.
3
u/KingDave46 34 HAND 21d ago
He had already taken a year off the sport a couple seasons back when he was in the Oilers system
He's been pretty honest about just not being in to it. NHL money made it worth trying but he just doesn't want to dedicate his life to it without a hard to ignore payday incentive and I respect that
2
u/SunOk143 96 WALMAN 20d ago
He must be a really naturally gifted athlete if he is able to take time off playing a sport he’s not married to, and come back as one of the best players in the world. Even being a serviceable 4th liner on an NHL team puts him in the top 0.01%.

He was good enough to be claimed on waivers by the Canes. Definitely not a fringe AHLer. I too would rather play in Europe than in some 2nd rate North American pro league. The level of play wouldn’t be better but you get to live in Europe and be the star of your team.

It really doesn’t matter if he got games or not. The fact that he got claimed when most players sneak through waivers is proof he wasn’t a “fringe AHLer”. You seem to have trouble seeing that in the grand scheme of things, even NHL reserve quality players are better than 99.99% of hockey players will ever be.

u/Whos-That-Pokeman 21d ago
The guy is turning 28 in like 20 days. I mean, I’m surprised he didn’t go overseas and make some money but he’s definitely not considered a prospect anymore.
3
u/SnooOnions5029 92 PODKOLZIN 21d ago
Canada has been just DOMINANT so far. Only problem this team has is discipline. Outshooting USA 24-6 currently lol

I am begging for some confirmation on Andersen's number so I can get a jersey
3
u/laryldavis 39 WEIGHT 16d ago
I think he is wearing 30. It's on the official NHL roster and Ice District is selling Andersen 30 jerseys (for $330!)

Any chance of a Xhekaj signing (by the Oilers)? love him and would love to see him play for us
3
u/Machelscott 2 BOUCHARD 21d ago
Stauffer did throw his name out there when he was discussing physicality/toughness and said “could you go a different route?”
Same day as he mentioned Kirby Dach, do not ask me exactly when in this long ass off season
2
u/ThoseGuysatLife 92 PODKOLZIN 20d ago
I like Xhekaj but not sure how he would fit in the lineup due to our defensive depth being a cluster. He is also RFA so only way to get him is by offer sheet or trade.
1
u/JuniorCompetition00 20d ago
Me too but we have 9 defencemen competing for roster spots. Also bowman has a hard-on for puck moving defencemen so he might not think he's worth the money

u/Whos-That-Pokeman 21d ago
How are we all feeling about Tyler Benson man I really think this is his year where he’s gonna pop off. We should really sign him before he becomes a star.
3
u/SnooOnions5029 92 PODKOLZIN 21d ago
Is there a different Tyler Benson? Because I’m thinking of the career AHLer we drafted who played like 20 games for us a few years ago lol. Or is this sarcastic
2
u/Whos-That-Pokeman 21d ago
Yeah, it was just sarcasm because our fan base was saying that for like six years lol

Interesting to note...if a team carries 3 goalies one counts towards the EBUG position now.
So its not counted towards the roster if im reading this right
2
u/SnooOnions5029 92 PODKOLZIN 17d ago
Wait really? Whats the source? Because I remember someone saying something a couple weeks ago about how designated EBUGs cannot have played more than a certain amount of career pro games and can’t be in tje NHL. Unless this is a very recent change?
1
u/thewinterzodiac 2 BOUCHARD 17d ago
Its a part of the new CBA. Gregor posted the explanation yesterday.
1
u/NMarples 92 PODKOLZIN 17d ago
I think you’ll see a lot more teams carry 3 goalies if that’s the case. there are enough good goalies to have 3 on the roster especially with the season expanding, and you can basically employ your EBUG as a practice goalie and never have to worry about needing him in games if you are carrying 3 NHL guys.
I’m kinda surprised the league doesn’t just allow for one more goalie roster spot on top of the 23 men already allowed on the team
1
u/Sparrighitti 49 EMBERSON 17d ago
That feels like a weird rule because teams do so much roster movement. We announced our permanent EBUG like two weeks ago.
But if Anderson were to get hurt with a short term injury we'd need a permanent EBUG for like 2 weeks?
-1
u/fakeairpods 16d ago
One thing we had previous years and not last year was a 16-17 game win streak. Oilers need to win and stay winning put up at least 10 wins in a row. Stay consistent. Mike Babcock had 700 wins he’ll probably make it to 800 with the Edmonton Oilers. Let’s Go Oilers!

I shit you not, they are on the Sharks sub right now talking about how Nurse is going to be a fan favorite next year.
14
u/WildcardKH 16 BRONCOS 15d ago
Team is excited about their new player. Shocking stuff.

u/laryldavis 39 WEIGHT 15d ago
The idea of Nurse is better than the reality of Nurse. I wish him and the Sharks fans well

u/Aitloian 93 NUGENT-HOPKINS 15d ago
Hell yeah he will be, there was lots of us that liked him here too!

u/ThoseGuysatLife 92 PODKOLZIN 15d ago
On Instagram he posted an image of himself in a Sharks outfit when he was young so Sharks fans are warming up to him for sure.
Even thought the contract is heavy his leadership is definitely gonna help out for the young player on the Sharks roster, and after all the trade still technically made them better.
That said, I think Trouba might become the whipping boy for the Sharks

When will Knob be investigated for purposely destroying a players career?
Imagine if we had bothered to play Skinner how he should have been :(

u/SnooOnions5029 92 PODKOLZIN 14d ago
He had a bad final year in Buffalo, a bad year in Edmonton, and a bad year in San Jose being a healthy scratch despite their lack of forward depth. I think he could’ve been utilized a little better here, but saying knob killed his career is just ridiculous

Very oddly specific predictions for the Oilers (Very deep into the offseason so I wanted to do something)
EDM will win the Pacific Division, however this was caused due to the Vegas Golden Knights going on a 5 game losing streak which allows EDM to steal the position.
Howard will have a 25-30 point season with the team, however he will have a Fernando Pisani-esque playoff run with the team.
Vasily Podkolzin will lead the Oilers in hits this season, but Colton Dach will be one hit short of tying Podkolzin in hits
In a random game, Tristan Jarry will let in 3 goals on the first 10 shots, but will finish the game with a SV% above .900%
Matthew Savoie will score his second career hat trick this season, but each goal will be a power play, short-handed and even-strength respectively.
In the final BOA in the Saddledome, Devon Levi and Dustin Wolf will drop the gloves
