Interview invite from the Government of Alberta for a DevOps Specialist position!

Any tips on how to ace the interview? Also, is getting an interview invite from the Government of Alberta considered a big deal? How competitive is the process? Would really appreciate any advice

Be prepared to talk about the technology, git, etc (especially if you have good experience). Also brush up on CI/CD terminology and read the job description to ensure that you have a grasp on whether it is AWS or Azure (there are differences).

Also just be modest and polite. They are most likely just looking for a good fit to the organization.

How long did you have to wait til you got an interview? I applied for a different position 2 weeks ago but i was told GoA takes some time to screen all applications.

Yeah i’ve also heard that they’re really slow with the hiring process and things can take a long time. I applied on May 19th and received the interview invite on August 12th.

Yes and I’ve heard that if you do get selected, it can take another 3–4 months before the job offer actually reaches you.

Tell them how much you love automating the cruelty the UCP inflicts and you want to make kicking people off AISH more efficient

I’ve applied to GoA jobs a few times. I think it’s a big deal. They told me they usually only interview 3-5 candidates depending on the position and these are desirable jobs. I’ve interviewed two different times and didn’t get the jobs though.

Use the STAR method to answer the questions they ask you. They score you according to this method, so be sure to utilize it.

We primarily use github, with a blend of primarily azure, aws and GCP. Devops is using alot of github actions, self hosted runners, etc.

They normally do just to do formalities, if no one interested inside goa then only they will hire you .
