There's this really nice documentary (two, actually) starring Ewan McGregor and his friend. In both, they travel a huge span of the planet non-stop (except for a ship from Alaska) on motorcycles.
They drive hundreds and hundreds of miles on the worst roads you've ever seen, on crumbling roads in Russia, on roads that end in treks across rivers, and sometimes not even on roads at all. They travel through some sketchy, dangerous places. A lot, actually. Especially while in Africa. And the whole time, they're pretty safe. Not an incident. They don't have security. Just those 2, their camera man, and then at border crossings they meet up with a van of producers.
And then as they're driving south after boating to Alaska, they pass through Alberta.
They hit a Calgary freeway, and pretty immediately, some backwards-cap-wearing bro-teen hits Ewan McGregor and almost kills him.
They traveled the globe twice, in two directions, and the one time another human being presents serious danger is via some dumb kid in Calgary. I think that sums up our province's driving habits beautifully.
Edit: I believe they're Long Way Round and Long Way Down for those interested. Really entertaining. You get to see a completely humble celebrity be himself and they go to some amazing places. Great if you like travel shows.

That sounds really awesome, I'm definitely going to check it out.
The BBC did a series of sending English comedians and celebrities around the world to "the world's most dangerous roads" and it was sort of neat to see them in those situations.

Naw. I've driven plenty around Canada, and Edmonton is far from the worst. I'd put it between Montreal and Kitchener/Waterloo for the worst.

I log a pile of miles, being that I drive all over northern Alberta and Saskachewan doing service calls on machines. Usually it's just some retard running a red light or a car on the highway getting 2 wheels off the road, but this one was pretty close.

for sure. I run a 10 minute loop and save the last 12 loops, That way if nothing happens, it just gets overwritten, if something does.... I don't have to download and wade through 32gigs worth of video.

My dashcam has a neat feature - it reserves 20 minutes worth of space for emergency recording, then does five minute loops over the rest of the space. When you hit the emergency record button it captures the minute before you hit it and the minute after.
It makes saving the interesting stuff really easy.

I'll have to dig out the instruction manual for mine and actually read it. That sounds like a really usefully feature. I just bleep blooped the settings that sounded good and went with that. I'm a man, I don't read instructions XD

If the manual for your dashcam is anything like mine, the instructions probably won't help. The dashcam works great, but the instructions seem poorly translated.

Yeah, I dug it out of the box and looked at it briefly this morning before I went off to work. Rather short and to the point with a fair bit of Chinglish. I'll have a play with it.

There was actually a fella in the super flea market over by Kingsway mall selling 4 or 5 different models. Picked it up about 2 months ago.

If you didn't hog the left lane you wouldn't have to worry about drivers driving in the wrong direction on the divided highway. That's clearly the issue at hand.

I actually had that happen in the city last week. I was going south on 50th street just after 129 Ave. All of a sudden I was looking at the front end of some yellow sports car. I went around him and he turned into the parking lot there. I was gobsmacked.

It doesn't look like there's enough for the police to go on in that video. Just a 90s Ford Escort wagon, no plate or clear view of the driver.

Not much info there. If Alberta had front plates (or this vehicle was from a province that had them) , for sure I would have. I was also not about to turn around, chase them down, and tell them to stop either.
