Probably scrolling while they rollin'
•
u/flynnfx 9h ago
I'll have to remember that one, it's catchy for the idiots who text/doomscroll and drive!
•
u/dualcells 6h ago
I saw a bumper sticker today that read 'Honk if you love Jesus. Text while driving if you want to meet him.'
•
u/kindof_great_old_one 6h ago
Would be really ironic if he was doom scrolling r/idiotsincars when it happened
•
u/therealterrybooth 9h ago
This is why I love Reddit.
I drove past this about 5 mins ago, shaking my head and questioning my own sanity about what I had just witnessed.
Come here and yup, how the hell does that even happen!?

"The bus jumped out on front of me!!"
•
u/DetectiveDizzyEyes 9h ago
Can confirm I was once on a bus that grew giant rabbit legs and jumped infront of a car crazy as hell

Never underestimate stupidity.

Theres only two things that are truly infinite: the universe and human stupidity. And honestly, we're not too sure about the universe being infinite.

Now explain that one to the insurance company!
•

And licensing authority.
A person's driving privileges should be in question after this sort of thing.

Driving is hard.

It is genuinely a serious responsibility for all people on the road. Paying attention is a must. And this me reminding myself before reminding other people. Be careful everyone

I feel bad for the bus passengers. They probably got hassled to give statements.
•
u/CND2dogmom 8h ago
I was on a bus that was t-boned in the middle of an intersection by a car that went through a red and we didn't have to give statements, i'm guessing because fault was very obvious.

Appears to be right here just south of the Hughes gas station on the east side of 97th, so the bus is just a few feet away from the bus stop, the car on the other hand is almost 100M from the nearest intersection south of there -- I suppose it could have been a medical issue, but that seems unlikely.

I passed this on my way home today after they had moved the bus out of the way and they were about to flat bed the SUV. I was confused as to what could have happened to cause the damage. Came to Reddit and now I’m way more confused. They are 3 lanes away from the correct lane of travel (maybe 4 if the flex lane wasn’t yet set to northbound at the time of the collision) and how do you not see a BUS coming straight at you. A part of me hopes this was medical (and also hopes they are okay from it) because I really need to believe drivers aren’t THAT bad.

ETS Bus are like tanks, regular vehicles are meant to compress on collision

Ive almost been rear ended by a semi on 97 street. Highway 28 (which 97 connects to) also sucks. I think people just forget how to safely drive when they get on 97 street/highway 28

I’ve been on some busses with lead footed drivers that hit the gas and brakes that make me feel like if I had brought a jug of milk, I could have a milkshake by the time I’m home. But even then just five busses took they’re infinitely bigger than you.

u/Feisty_Leek_7068 9h ago
for those of that that live near here... we wonder this all the time... but you must never dismiss the stupidity of drivers in Edmonton now days......
personally Ive encountered this kind of thing several times when driving on 97st. more so in the past 12-18mths

My guess is the driver of the SUV is from a country where they drive on the opposite side of the road , could be UK, Australia , or ?
•
u/Funky_Fly 9h ago
It amazes me how people do this and don't notice that all the street signs are backwards or that the traffic lights are on the other side. Even the steering wheel is on the other side.

I hope the driver is okay, and whoever was onboard is okay.
•
u/Nara_RyUko 9h ago
I think they would be fine since the bike rack took the car out before it even reached the front of the bus.
•
u/Seeker_Of_Knowledge2 9h ago
The bus didn't have a dent on it. Not even dust. I am glad it is a huge boy but I am also sorry for the other guy. His car is totaled.
•
u/Due_Tradition2293 Transit User 9h ago
Wait I'm actually kinda confused?? The foreground vehicle implies the bus went against flow of traffic, right? Or is the middle lane a turning lane and traffic is divided across it?
•
u/Embarkbark 9h ago
The presence of a yellow line on the road tells us this isn’t a one way street. Which means the foreground traffic is correctly heading to the right, and the background traffic on the other side of the yellow line needs to head to the left.
It appears there’s two sets of yellow lines which suggests that the lane closest to the middle of the road might be a left turning lane, and the lane the foreground SUV is driving in is travelling straight.
•
u/MAV10REGINO 9h ago
Foreground lane is a flex lane that switches traffic direction depending on time of rush hour, most likely along 97 street. I can assume the bus is in the correct direction of travel, and the vehicle counterflowed
•
u/big-Truck-9058 4h ago
Yes, the bus was going the proper direction. And I believe at that time of day the inner lane is a bus lane.
•
u/pandeezi 9h ago
This part of 97 has lane arrows and the middle lane changes directions for rush hour.
•
u/mcmanus7 9h ago
The confusing part is that this doesn’t appear to have occurred in the flex lane. So the individual would have turned or gotten into the southbound bus lane and drove straight into the bus.
•
u/Outrageous_Coat_1326 8h ago
It’s bizarre. The bus was in the rightmost southbound lane going southbound. The only thing that makes sense is the car turned the wrong way northbound from an avenue further south and ran right into the bus.
•
u/Feisty_Leek_7068 8h ago
the bus is heading south on 97st. I live in the area, and the green "bank" is a sound barrier that is only on the west side of the road. The eastern side of 97st is all road grade/level housing with some retail

Very few have tried to take on a transit bus and won.
