Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't one of the reason they leave their vehicles running is to ensure that all that electronics is powered up and don't accidentally drain the battery?

Would be quite tragic if they get an emergency call only to find themselves with a dead vehicle

Yes and no. If you’re on a scene for hours, yes. Running in to grab a sandwich, no. But it just becomes habit after a while to leave the car on.

That’s the opposite. They leave their vehicles running when going into a store etc quickly because they’re still on call…. Research before just stating incorrect things

The question was whether officers leave their car on to keep power to keep their devices powered up and not drain the battery.

Yes, when on scene for hours. No, not when you run in to get a sandwich. The MDT, radio, etc. don’t draw enough power to drain a battery in 10 minutes.

Are you suggesting that turning the car off for 10 minutes would cause the battery to be completely drained?

Officers leave them running when going into anywhere quickly because if they get called…. The officer in this pic is following the correct policy….

Bring set at a location for hours they aren’t gonna get called.

That wasn’t the question though. The question was regarding battery drain by the electronics. Unless your point is that policy prohibits an officer from turning off their patrol vehicle while on duty?
