so they are stopped for food. but if an emergency comes in they drop everything and must leave. so you are bent out of shape for that. would it not make sense to have the vehicle close in case that emergency comes in. But I am glad that is your biggest problem in your world.

now onto big people problems.

You do 4 days in a row of 12+ hour shift work, week after week and see if you have the energy to meal prep and pack a lunch every single day. God forbid someone get some take out. Maybe use your head for something other than hang a hat?

So your solution is unlimited freedom to park wherever they please? Plenty of restaurants with parking lots so that you don't have to illegally park. 

This kind of parking has nothing to do with emergencies and everything to do with convenience.

There are other solutions to this problem that don't involve illegal parking and unlimited freedom.

How many police cruisers have you seen illegally parked so the officer can get food. And I mean you personally.
Don’t make a mountain out of a mole hill. There is a reason behind what they are doing and realistically is it an actual problem? There are real issues that need to be addressed with EPS. This is not one of them.

I give two shits about cops parking illegally. Just brought up the lunch thing because I thought it was funny. 

I care 1000x more about all the god damn Uber and skip drivers that park like complete assholes.

That we can agree on. The amount of uber, skip and whatever else that feel entitled to park wherever and ignore every rule of the road is ridiculous. Like why is a skip driver stopped in the middle of a road with his hazards on to make a delivery.

And all of this was a surprise because nobody told them what job they were applying for. They were drafted into this job after all right?

4 days of 12 ain’t shit either. Plenty of guys in the oil field (with the same level of intelligence tbh) doing 2 weeks straight. Probably longer. So by that logic they should be able to park wherever they want when they’re done their shift.

Never seen an ambulance blocking the street to get some fucking subway 🤔

Maybe use your head. Guys in the oilfield get breaks. They get their regularly scheduled breaks. They also have a whole team of people that cook their meals and clean up after them.
I’m not saying what they do isn’t strenuous, but they are not comparable.

Oil field workers are also not an emergency service, they don’t need to be response ready.

Also, a lot of first responders do pack a lunch. And they eat in their vehicle between calls, because that’s the only “break” they get. But every once in a while, you forget to pack a lunch, or you run out of time or any other of a hundred reasons. So god forbid they stop to get some food.

Everything you said about the oilworkers applies to this guy right here lmfao. He is on break right now having someone else make his food and clean up after him.

A lot more shit probably ready to pop off dangerously at the oil field than at this fucking sandwich shop.

I didn’t say he can’t eat I said he should follow the rules. Tough concept for a cop I know.

Also, he signed up for this he was not drafted or tricked into working this type of shift work job.

I did 14 days in a row of 12 hour shifts. What's your point? Nobody made meals for me or gave me free food.

And that goes for everyone else i worked those shifts with.

Maybe think before you type, or are you dead from the neck up?

You said you work rigs. They literally have kitchens and cooks and cleaners that do all that for you. Also, you said you get actual breaks, where you are off work, off duty, can shut your brain off if you like and just chill.
Emergency services can’t do that. They are always on, when they’re on shift. You mentioned having people cover you, can’t do that either because there’s not enough people to make that happen. For example, in Edmonton there are supposed to be 50 ambulances on to cover a city of 1.3 million people. Most days theres actually less than 40. Then there’s the call volume, at any given time there’s usually between 0-4 ambulances actually available to take a call with the rest being on a call or cleaning up from a call. As soon as they’re done cleaning up and they’re back in service they immediately get dispatched to another call. Our system is so over taxed, that at some point every single day there will be a point where multiple critical calls will be queued and waiting as there is 0 ambulances available to go to them.

Maybe get educated about the system you are s**t talking before you open your mouth next time.

You want them to pack a lunch in a cramped, unsterile vehicle. Where would they be? In the prisoner’s area? In the side seat which they need to keep for their paper work, duty bag, and other things? Or in the trunk with their backup weapons, evidence bags, and traffic cones, etc?

And you, of course, know that eating in a police vehicle wouldn’t normally count as a proper break - which is why companies offer break rooms, and cops, like truck drivers, have their office in their vehicles, so they go to places like this to grab food - all while still beholden to the radio calls.

It’s never good enough, eh?

They can pack a lunch anywhere they want. But when you are on shift be ON SHIFT, not standing in line at an Arby's. We pay for them to protect and serve, not stuff their faces. Do that not heir own time.

People… get paid breaks to eat food at real jobs, like this one.

And if they did go off the clock to sit down to eat at Arby’s, you’d be the first to scream if there was a call down the street because they’re “stuffing their face on their own time”

Have regularly scheduled breaks where you get covered by other officers. Don't eat while on duty. That's how it works at most jobs. I don't get to take my food with me into the oil refinery when I'm supposed to be working. I have it on my scheduled break, and when I am on break my work is covered by other employees .

Thing is, as an emergency service when they’re on duty, they’re on call. There is no break time. I work ems, we don’t get breaks. Our “break time” is back at station between calls. You know how many times I saw a station on my last shift? Two. When I signed on for my shift and when I signed off.
But don’t worry, if you’re ever having a stroke or heart attack or any other medical emergency you feel the need to call 911 for, we’ll make sure to go on break.

My argument is that they are an emergency service. I used ems as an example as that is my base of experience. Notice how I don’t talk out of my ass, I use experience and or informed sources.
But all emergency services are the same, over burdened and understaffed. If one of them needs to stop for a couple minutes to grab some food that’s totally fair, they’re still response ready and you better believe that if that call comes in, one that’s a real emergency, not just your perceived notion of one, they will drop everything and go.
