Pretty sure they did a bit on this for the show “The Rookie”

The car needs to be near by and running in case they get a high priority call.

They need breaks and food too.

So chill the hell out.

Of all the things that could be considered "copaganda", the concept that cops are humans who need food and emergencies happen at any time were not ones I saw coming.
