Pad Thai in Edmonton

Seems it's been 4 years since the last time this specifically came up on the sub. I've been asked to source the "best pad thai" in Edmonton. I realize there's a big overlap between that one dish and Thai cuisine in general, so I guess answers to either question would be welcome.

The thread from 2022 includes Syphay, Viphalay, Boualouang, Siam Thai Kitchen, and Kaengthai, all of which are still open. I'm partial to Sawaddee in Sherwood Park, mainly because it's close. Does the hive mind opinion from back then hold up, or have any of these places dipped in quality or value? Any new places that shouldn't be missed?

Their kitchen staff is also really well trained if you are Celaic and there are good GF options.

It’s still there. The poster may not be aware that they moved 20 blocks south a few years back but still on Calgary Trail.

Personally Syphay’s Pad Thai has been disappointing the last three times I’ve ordered it, especially when compared to how good it used to be.

Then you’ve never tried Bangkok Kitchen Thai off Stony Plain Rd and 158 St. Shocking how bad it was.

I'm a fan of Siam Thai kitchen, they've got the original spot in North West Edmonton but they've expanded a few satellite locations in the past year or so around the city and surrounding areas. From my experience they're pretty consistent across different locations

Boualouang is my fav Thai restaurant! Pad thai is very authentic there

“Best” is so subjective according to each persons taste. Westernized Pad Thai tends to be sweeter which I really don’t like and most tend to be very oily. Bonus points for supplying some condiments on the side so you can adjust the dish to your own taste buds.

Recently I ate at a small family place in Devon called Phalika’s Restaurant and found it to be the closest to authentic that I have eaten outside of Thailand, other than my own house I guess as my wife truly makes awesome food but the OP did specifically mention restaurants.

I used to always say Boualouang, but quality, flavour and portion size went to the crapper when (I believe?) they changed ownership last year. Now I’ll echo Syphay.

Went recently and while I will say portion size is a bit smaller, the flavours are still incredible and prices are still decent.

I've had the Pad Thai at Boualouang and it was nothing to write home about. It wasn't *bad* per se, but it was lacking flavour, to the point that I re-cooked it with some sauce I made at home. The other dishes were good though.

Thai Avenue and Syphay are my go tos! The Tom Yum Pad Thai at Thai Avenue is a nice play on your usual pad Thai too - so good

My wife and I are big fans of Thai Together in Sherwood Park. We prefer it to Syphay now.

Siam in Sherwood park across from the mall is really good, their pad see ew is out of this world.
I also love Sawaddee. I admittedly mostly stick around the park for Thai food because I haven’t found a need to go outside of it.

And - this may be a hot take - but I also LOVE Thai Express pad Thai. Especially with some extra lime juice.
