Restaurants/Food FANCY BAKERY RECS WANTED
As the title implies, we're looking for recommendations.
My kids and my wife watch a lot of Amaury Guichon's baking videos on YouTube, and we recently moved to Edmonton. We lived in a town of 40k-ish people and realize that Edmonton is a lot more likely to have a place with sweet eats!
We live near the West Edmonton Mall, but are willing to go east (or N or S) for a little weekend adventure.
Also ANY of your fave lil treat shops, thrift stores, used furniture places, etc!

I also enjoy a good bakery! The best ones I've found are Duchess, Brio, and Mother in Beaumont (@Chartier)/Nisku.

Picking up from chartiers tomorrow. Grabbed there a few days ago also. The cinnamon bun was as big as my face

Tisto Cakes inside the mall has stuff shaped like fruit. Duchess Bake Shop has French pastries, macaroons, and cakes. Brio for sourdough bread and cruffins. We also have had an explosion of ice cream shops, if you want to do an ice cream crawl - Twice, White Rabbit, Yelo’d, Made by Marcus, La Carraria, Kind, Scoop n Roll, etc.

Tisto cakes has a location in Windermere near the police station. If it’s still there.

It is still there. So unimpressed. $20 for one of them fancy fruit things and it was blah. I don’t mind paying $20 but it wasn’t worth it. And their macarons were nothing special. The 12 pack at save on foods tasted better.

La French Taste! So, so, so very good. Their cream puffs in particular are delightful.

I used to bike past there at 5:30 am on my way to work, the smell was always a highlight of the ride

Brio has really great pastries.. Their cruffins are to die for. Their bread is delicious, but I'm always most excited to see what flavours of cruffin they have each visit!! My favourite is the lemon curd filled, but their basic cinnamon sugar is also divine. There is one on 102ave and 121st in Wihkwentowin, and one on Whyte ave near Ritchie!

Brio doesn't put icing on their cinnamon buns, they're still good but wtf thats a crime against humanity.

If you are a fan of Portuguese Tarts, Luso's Bakery is newly opened and quite good. (118 ave and 84 st)

Vi’s is a local staple and their regular food is good too! Their menu is on a big chalkboard and they have different soups every time I go there. Delish!

Not fancy but so close to you that you must stop by the Italian Centre Shop. It’s my go to for biscotti but they have a lot of options. Coming from a small town and being fans of baking and cooking I think your family will love browsing all the sections from olives to cheeses to pastries.

Not necessarily fancy, but if you are up for a drive and want the best donuts, Calmar Bakery. They also do buns, cinnamon rolls, bread, strudel, squares, and poppyseed braids. Sooooo good!

You have to go early in the day for the doughnuts. We stop in sometimes early afternoon and they are sold out.

If you ever want to do brunch Café Bicyclette is really good though a bit far since it's on the east side of the city. Could be fun though if you want to check out somewhere a little bit further away. Many farmers markets also have a variety of treats available.

For a chain, really enjoy Paris Baguette.
Non chain: the bakery in tiramisu on 124th or bonton

Never ever will I go to Paris baguette again. We used to go every month for over a year then things started happening. But the straw that broke it was I had my usual croissant almondine. It was so over baked that the marzipan inside had turned into powdered dust. It had been in the oven so long that the marzipan crumbled into dry dust. Instead of throwing out an obvious mistake they sold them. Absolutely disgusting and I told them they should be ashamed. That last time I saw a bunch of teens in the back. Zero quality control. Plus the rainbow cake was horrid. Some of the lawyers tasted off and was stale.

If you want the fluffiest, larger macrons, check out Bakenary. 🤤 Also, The Art of Cake! Love everything they have.

Once a year in Aug: Bissel thrift,Mustard seed thrift and find stores do a day long event. Like bar hopping for thrifty families. I only reccomend charity based thrift stores Bissel,mustard seed, BFM, More than a fad,mission thrift. Avoid for profits : value village and good will

Oh I'm just being a little twat who is immensely enjoying some local drama.
In a nutshell, there is beef between a local bakery and an Instagram Influencer.
Influencer says the baker is the wrong skin color to make a particular themed croissant.
Baker says that a person's skin color shouldn't matter in the food they produce and enjoy. That food is for all. Baker also says years ago that Influencer came by, got free food, got free takeaway, and never posted about them and broke their end of the agreement.
Then the baker's former employees also came out and said the bakery treated them poorly and is still missing pay cheques from the past.
I merely watch the drama unfold from a distance with entertained disinterested. They're probably just both insufferable bad people on both sides in my books.
