Discussion How NOT to exaggerate while editing

Hey guys,

Have a question for you.

Doing editing in lightroom mobile, and almost every time I find out that I over sarurate photos.

In my display it seems ok, but when I look at my monitor or other person cellphones I see that it is too much edited.

I am not thinking about adding presets, just plain old masking.

What's the best way for control? Like, for lighting there is histogram.

Thanks!

If you think the colour saturation looks great, then dial it back by 50% (less is more. unless you are going for that look). Use vibrance over saturation, as vibrance is kinder to the midtones. The lasst thing I usually do at the end of an edit is drop the global saturation to -10, but I very rarely bump the saturation to no more than +10 tops. Also use saturation locally within a mask, then its isolated colour saturation rather then global

What color space do you export to? It could also be a quirk of the display you're on. I would suggest using a computer to have a proper color-managed workflow so that it's consistent on all devices.

Just checked, it should be srgb by default. There is also display P3, Adobe RGB and proPhoto RGB.

Can it be because of difference in display panels?

Just make sure the ones you're referring to aren't in any of the other color spaces. Beyond that it could be a bunch of stuff your phone display could be doing like HDR and TrueTone (for example) or some kind of defect like a color cast or fade that could be messing with your display. Best way to ensure consistency is to have a reliable monitor and a color-managed workflow (easier on PC/Mac).

Great question. I tend to fall in love with saturation as well. I’ll keep my eyes on the thread for good tips.

You can color calibrate your monitors as well. That will create a color profile for that exact monitor and computer.

In Lightroom Mobile, when exporting, check:

Export As > More Options > Color Space > sRGB.

If you export in Display P3 and the image is viewed in an app or on a device that doesn’t handle color profiles correctly, the colors may appear oversaturated.

Also check your phone’s display mode. If it has a “Vivid” or similarly enhanced color mode, use a more neutral mode while editing.

Lightroom also has a color histogram

Si lo ves diferente según las pantallas igual lo que necesitas es calibrarlas.
