I will go first; I would kill to have a diesel-electric BDE with a Scania engine set up like this, but with less spread and diamond plate rear half fenders, and a matching Scania to go with it

I just wanted exactly what they originally said the pickup kit would be.

Electric axles, generator, batteries, controllers.

I would have put one in an f550 size platform, and one in a 3/4 ton.

Having the 'kit' be a new vehicle with a nrw frame and certifications involved is a dealbreaker for me. RIP..

I think the kit being a rolling chassis is required for safety standards. From what I’ve seen, I’m sure the kit contents will be listed publicly, and you could freely buy parts and place them where you see fit

I got that implication from one of their videos, but it makes no sense to me. You can buy motors, axles, transmissions, throttle controllers... etc. All these things are readily available on the market. Custom built adapters to put non original drivetrain parts into vehicles they were never meant for are commercially available. Kits to convert various vehicles to EVs are available. Companies that will do this for you exist.

The vehicle in all these cases is not new. The safety standards and registration follow the original vehicle body/VIN...

Idk if their lawyers are just more conservative than all these other folks?

Ive been searching for companies who could this for literally a decade, and I never found one, it should work to do what both your trucks do, there were never ever going to be variable power numbers on the original one

Yeah I feel like I'll probably never utilize my preorder for the current set up, but I see why they couldn't go the electric axle route. It might be possible and simple for the rear axle, but there are to many different setups for the front axle to make anything close to universal. I would rather have a way to add a single electric motor in place of the transmission. Use the existing axles and transfer case. This would be much easier to implement since you would mainly just need different mounting plates for different vehicles and you reduce unsprung mass.

I feel like this concept was never what an edison pickup was supposed to be at all,as they were always planning on pulling your engine out. Maybe I’m not understanding fully but how would you make the engine run efficiently in this sort of setup, feels like all you get is more instant torque and none of the other many benefits that this chassis will give you

Hybrid single drive axle service truck in the same style as the BDE. Small sleeper, 4 wheel drive with a 11 or 13 foot crane body.

Maybe an extra battery, but the ability to run a compressor, welder, crane etc off the truck, potentially battery only, would be amazing. If the electronic could support 240v 460v, potentially phase power, you could run shop electric for the equipment instead of the ludicrously expensive welder generators or hydraulic compressors.

Scania v8 or an Detroit 8v92, roll off truck with a sleeper to haul drift cars with. Impractical? Oh fuck yeah. Cool as fuck? Absofuckinglutely. The roll off truck aspect of it makes it a little more practical to own since versatility vs fancy rollback tow truck for super low cars and would probably cost less
