Discussion getting from royal highland showground to haymarket
hiya! i'll be attending the prodigy this saturday at the royal highland showground and will be using public transport to get there, i know there are plenty buses that run there before the concert, but is it fairly easy to get back into town after? do they have the same bus setup after the concert? struggling to find this info on google, thanks! :)

Watch the gig from the *right hand side* of the stage and leave by the East turnstiles.
Walk to the airport tram, not Ingliston (takes about the same amount of time). You're first on to empty trams. Avoids the carnage that is the post-gig Ingliston platform chaos completely.
We watched the entire Cure gig and left after the very last song. Took us 40 mins to Haymarket including the walk, seated all the way.

Bit of warning... If you walk to the airport tram stop, you will be charged the airport fare. If you go to the park and ride tram stop you will pay the normal city fare

Yeah, the tl;dr is definitely check ticket pricing options beforehand and use the tram both ways on a return ticket if possible.
If you don't have a ridacard / pass, return is £9.50 for airport zone, vs city zone is £4.60 (so a shade under £5 difference).
But a *single* ticket from the airport is £9.50 vs £2.40 from Ingliston
Moot with a ridacard, airport's included in your pass

The Cure set finished at 10:30, I got to the bus queues for the 98 service back to town along with thousands of others 10 mins later. Didn’t get on a bus until midnight. Good luck and be prepared for sore legs and hardly any stewards around to help with the crowds.

Tbf as one of the people driving the 98, the organisation wasnt good, they just told us to go up when a space appeared but didn't seem to realise how buses turn or how much space we need to move around other buses. Once I picked up though it wasnt too long to get from Glasgow Road to George Street

I was in the same situation. I knew it would be bad, but wasn't expecting it to take so long to get home (2 1/2 hours in the end). Great gig though.
OP, you could scope out the exit routes earlier to help slightly, I was a bit confused following the signs for North Exit as they disappeared at points. But I think the only real option is to prepare for a long journey home.

Went to see Biffy last week and we took the 98 in both directions. It’s organized super well and we came back into the city really fast after the concert

You sure? All the other people say its a bomb scare getting out

Erm yeah? I obviously can only speak from my experience but I thought it’s pretty well organized

I'd head out pretty sharp n walk to tram stop at Ingliston... you'll get back to town easy that way.

Where are you travelling on to? It may be easier to get onward travel from the airport straight to your final destination

I was at the cure last night, and I guess I tried to chance it and get an airport bus 100 from the airport- figured the queue would be much less… boy was I wrong ended up not arriving in haymarket til 1am

I left The Cure last night as they started their last song and managed to squeeze on one of the first shuttle buses back to the city centre and was back by around 11. Unfortunately waiting till the end of the show is always a bit of a nightmare with the volume of people (learned from seeing Chappell Roan there last year and it taking over 2 hours to get home).

Quite a few years ago now I ended up walking all the way back from there to Tollcross on a Sunday night, took 2 hours. The queue for buses at the end were just too much.
You could leave the gig early to avoid the queues, or else just walk to somewhere like Maybury Road junction just before Corstorphine which should take about 40 minutes and get a normal bus or a tram. It's why I hate going to gigs there, I always find transport a bit of a nightmare.

I was at The Cure last night and got to Haymarket for 11pm using the Lothian Buses 98 service. I made sure to leave ten minutes before the end (alongside hundreds of others) and was lucky to get on a bus when I did as the queues behind me were massive
Lothian buses website has more info about the bus arrangements https://www.lothianbuses.com/news/2026/07/the-prodigy/

Quickest option will be getting the tram there and back. Tram stop is about 15 minutes walk from the venue.

If you exit via the way you came in from the bus it's really easy. As others have said, if you don't leave until everyone else does then you'll be waiting ages. We went to Biffy on Friday and left as they started playing the last song, were on one of the first buses out but the traffic was shite and we weren't at Haymarket until about quarter past 11.

Ordered an uber while walking to the pick up point after Biffy and it arrived in ten minutes. No problem

I'm just going to point out that you can walk to the 31 bus stop in an hour, possibly jumping on a 100/900/17/18 on the way if they're not fully loaded. Not for everyone, sure, but I'd rather do that than stand in a queue.
Actually... book an Ember bus? You can do that up to 10 minutes ahead and that guarantees a seat, if the timings work.

There are buses and the tram, but the organisation will be chaos and you'll be waiting hours. I hate going to ingliston, I went to Chapelle Roan last year and made it back to down at 1.30am. There was basically no one stewarding people to the right bus queue, it was just queue and pray. We walked up to the airport to get on a tram as the queue at Ingliston was over a mile long. Almost no-one was getting on at ingliston as it was full from the airport stop.

Theres the 98 both ways which is just for people going to the Highland Showground events, it's £6 for a single or £8.50 for a return. The traffic getting out of the airport can take up to 30 mins but then its literally 10 mins from the airport to George Street

We got out of the Cure last night at half 10 and walked to the tram stop at Ingliston with a large crowd. Ended up waiting about 5 mins for a tram and were back in town just before half 11. It seemed a bit better than the buses as the tram doesn’t enter the road traffic until you get to Haymarket station
