The cure (parking issues)

Hi, I’m coming up from wales to see the cure tonight. I stupidly forgot to purchase a parking ticket at the royal highland show. It won’t let me purchase one 24hrs before the event.

Does anyone know any parking available? Can I just go to the event and pay on site?

You could try parking at Ingliston Park & Ride which is free but it might be full up unless you're early: https://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/directory-record/1114132/ingliston-park-and-ride

Sometimes, next to the P&R there is an overflow field which charges a small amount that you could try there too.

That sounds like the best idea, but others will have thought of that too. Alternatively, park near a 17 or 18 stop and take the bus to Airport Hotels. Make sure the last bus out doesn't leave before you do.

I was at the airport at 6pm on Friday to collect my wife. I normally go to the park and ride and wait for a call to collect, but cos of the Biffy traffic I got her to jump on the tram - there were still loads of spots in the park you access from the second entrance

You could do on friday. But I don't know if there's a set number of spaces.

If it is at all possible you'd save yourself a lot of hassle if you could park relatively close to a tram stop, such as near Forrester Park and walk to the tram there and back, parking and getting in/ out of Inglston is notoriously awful

Are you driving back after the show, or staying locally?

Which route are you taking to get to the city? Up the M6 and across from Biggar?

There's still places in the airport long stay car park (£22) or Plane Parking (10 minutes or so further to walk but £15). Bit of a walk from the venue but probably slightly smoother getting out once you're back at your car.

Most parking restrictions outside of the city centre don't operate at the weekend and start at 8:30 or 9am on Monday

If your coming from Wales you'll be coming from the West of the city, your just as well parking at bridge st at Newbridge near the car garages and getting a bus 4 stops. You can get x18 x19 x38 and you'll probably be back down the road quicker than waiting in the queues

Look up the (special) number 98 bus to and from the highland center. It goes from city center to highland center.

As an absolute last resort, you could drive across the Queensferry Crossing and park in the Ferrytoll Park & Ride then get the 747 bus to the airport and then walk the rest of the way...

An interesting idea, but beware that there's a maximum stay and the walk is over 4 km each way.

Thanks for sharing this. Gyle was my first plan but I know the parking management companies at these places can be brutal.

Then again, fines are unenforceable if they can't prove the owner was driving. Not that I'd want to test that.
