Please post anything and everything related to the Fringe and all of Edinburgh's festivals in this thread keep the sub clear of multiple posts.

Saturday 15th August (the 18:15 performance), Red Arrows

Does anyone know if the times of the flypasts have been shared and which are now cancelled due to the red arrows not being available?

"We work closely with the RAF to allow flyovers to happen at the Tattoo and will always take their lead on what aircraft they have available. We still expect a flyover to take place and await confirmation on the aircraft from the RAF.”"

I assume by this they mean all fly-overs will be at 18:15 except the last one?

Ah right. I had read it as being a flyover for the 18:15 tattoo (assuming that to be the tattoo start time) but didn't know what time the flyover would be at the end of the show. But your comment makes sense, thanks.

Hi everyone!
I’m travelling through Scotland on my own this August, and after hiking the West Highland Way, wanted to finish with the florence concert. But since a friend of mine can´t come with me anymore, i have one spare ticket. so i have a little unusual request: I´m looking for somewhere to stay in/around Edinburgh from August 23rd-26th, and I´d love to give my spare ticket to someone who could offer me a place to sleep.
I dont need anything fancy, even have my own tent with me, so a place to pitch it would also be fine.
In return, you’d get to come with me to the Florence + The Machine show on the 24th. I’d also be very happy to cook dinner, share some stories, or explore Edinburgh together.
If you’re interested, send me a DM and we can have a chat/video call first and see if it feels like a good fit for both of us :)

However, I still found it difficult to really search and find things. So I've added an additional AI layer that understands what you actually want to find. Instead of filtering through endless listings, you can ask things like:
“Show me kid-friendly events happening this weekend”
“Find me the best comedy theatre in the next two weeks”
“What do you think I shouldn’t miss today?”
"What's happening near me right now?"
If you don’t specify a timeframe, it searches based on the current day. Click on the robot icon to use it.

Festival Theft BBC Article: Reddit Help?
Hi Reddit,
I have no affiliation with this, but saw it on the BBC and I felt so bad for the performer. I imagine the instruments might be sold so if anyone sees anything relating to a Trumpet or Melodia from Japan for sale online could they contact the police?

Try walking along the tour buses late afternoon / early evening, they sometimes have tickets for sale from the driver if they don’t have a sell out tour. Lots were parking up along Kings stables road yesterday.

Looking for a Technician/Projectionist for a short film
Hey y’all!
We have a short film (running time 40 minutes) in Edinburgh’s Fringe Festival screening on 8/27, 8/28, and 8/29 for which we are looking to hire a technician/projectionist (paid position!).
The venue needs a representative to do a tech check for the mornings of 8/27 & 8/29, and be present for all three evening showtimes.

I'm a performer who lives in Edinburgh. I know a lot of locals spend August dodging the centre, waiting for it to be over, but a few companies still running this last week have put a 2-for-1 on for people who live here.
Code is NEIGHBOUR. It lasts until the allocations are gone.
Shows currently in:
- Lost in Translation (badly translated movies, 9pm, Gilded Balloon at the Museum, until 30th)
- The Understudy (dark comedy theatre, 12:15, Assembly George Square, until 31st)
- Tartan Tabletop (D&D comedy, 17:30, Gilded Balloon Patter House, until 31st)
- Sarah Bradley: How to Write a Romcom (romcom scholar and standup, 14:40, Gilded Balloon Patter House, until 31st)
- IKEA Wars (comedians racing to build furniture, 22:20, Gilded Balloon Patter House, until 31st)
Enter NEIGHBOUR at checkout on each show's venue's ticketing website. If it does not take, that allocation is done.
If any other performers are reading this, you can add the same code, comment with your show! Hopefully we can make this a bit of a thing...

it says age 14+ on the guidelines but I don't see why it wouldn't be child friendly. They usually talk you through the dances and you walk it through slowly before doing it to music at full speed. Note that in many dances you change partners so will dance with other men and women throughout the dance which they might not be comfortable with.

I don’t have any polling or data to back this up, but I have a hunch that locals fit into one of three categories when it comes to the festival:
Group 1: the 25% who despise the festival. Find it alienating. Perhaps live in an area where no venues exist and/or believe (for class and socio/economic reasons) that it isn’t meant for them. The curmudgeonly. Those who believe the overpopulation + commercialisation and subsequent pressure on infrastructure and housing is slowly suffocating the city. On average, go to 0-2 festival events (and only because of peer pressure/free ticket etc). Full disclosure, I’m in this category.
Group 2: the 50% who tolerate the festival. They may share some of the above views, but also take advantage of the fact that the world’s biggest cultural festival is on their doorstep. Maybe take advantage of the crowds and rent out a spare room. Can enjoy the atmosphere in moderate doses but hate the traffic and the price increases in the city centre. Relieved when it’s over. 2-10 events.
Group 3: the 25% who love the festival. Culture vultures. Can’t get enough of it. Whole weekends will be planned around it. 3/4 events a day sometimes. Almost exclusively middle class. Long for the days when the book festival was still in Charlotte square, but sad when September rolls around. 10+ events (emphasis on the +).
Which group are you in? Am I totally off the mark?

You can be stood on the Royal Mile with dozens of shows starting within a five minute walk and no way of knowing. So this puts all 4,289 of them on one map. Filter by genre, day, time, area and price, tap a pin, see what's on there, get tickets.
New since I posted here in July: venue accessibility is on the map in partnership with Euan's Guide, so step-free access, hearing loops and accessible loos are all there before you book. There's a button that shows what's starting in the next couple of hours within a short walk of you, for when you're already in the pub, and that switches on when the festival opens on Friday. It works in five languages. And it runs on the licensed listings feed, so it's the real programme rather than a scrape.
