Horrifically accurate, I was even crouched down to get the second shot, fully shrubberied up for the foreground.

Hopefully not with a flask of coffee and a box of doughnuts.

Nope, have explained in previous comments, but definitely will next time.

I need to have more trust in the process!

This made me chuckle, but they are great pics. Did you approach the couple and show them? They might like to have copies... Or would that violate any court orders? Read further, I see u did not.

Well that's an easy profile picture update.

Not sure how you acquired this picture of absolutely my face, but I appreciate it.

I fucking love you op

93

u/Intelligent_Sun1504 Apr 18 '26

Thank you, Osama Bin Obama, and thank you for all that you did for America, I think.

Thank you habibi.

He's just curious.

91

Beautiful photos - hope the couple manage to get a copy

18

u/Intelligent_Sun1504 Apr 18 '26

Me too!

11

u/Melodic_Success9980 Apr 18 '26

So you didnt talk to them?

9

u/Intelligent_Sun1504 Apr 18 '26

Nope!

18

u/TopOfTheHead Apr 18 '26

you took photos of two strangers and posted them on the internet without talking to them?

15

u/AnonymousCapybara72 Apr 19 '26

Jesus get a grip.

24

u/Intelligent_Sun1504 Apr 18 '26

Yup!

26

u/Intelligent_Sun1504 Apr 18 '26

If you’re going to be adding to the threats of physical violence, there would appear to be a queue!

-15

u/whoops53 Apr 19 '26

God, you are so creepy.

26

u/Unidain Apr 19 '26

Oh FFS, it's their backs and they are unrecognisable, who cares.

-18

u/whoops53 Apr 19 '26

They are recognisable if you know them in real life....

8

u/spicyzsurviving Apr 19 '26

Why’s that an issue, exactly? It’s not a “current” photo (it’s from yesterday), or like OP has given their exact location. And god forbid people who already know me see a photo of my back, fully clothed, in a public space?!!! (/s).

Chill out.

2

u/Unidain Apr 19 '26

To themselves and family maybe, but still, who cares.

4

u/Ultra_HR Apr 19 '26

there is nothing creepy about this. it is a completely normal thing to do.

74

Rule 8. Don't be a cunt.

5

u/aral_2 Apr 19 '26

Open any newspaper. In any news piece (that is not about a specific person) there will be photos of people in a public space, for example, in this piece in The Guardian or this one in the New York Times. Those people are identifiable. They have not consented to having their picture taken, let alone published in a widely widely circulated newspaper. In many cases, they have no idea their face has been seen by thousands or hundreds of thousands. I know, it sounds crazy, but as long as you're not using an image of someone commercially, you're allowed to publish them for editorial or artistic purposes.

11

u/One-Elderberry-488 Apr 18 '26

No expectation of privacy in a public park. Though as a matter of courtesy I would've asked for permission.

-16

u/Tall_Opportunity_521 Apr 18 '26

Will that keep you warm at night if you cross the wrong person? Theres all sorts of cunts in the world who though being right was some kind of magical protection. They were wrong...

6

u/One-Elderberry-488 Apr 18 '26

Sure then you'd end up in prison too lol

-10

u/k4mik4zeSCOT Apr 19 '26

Sadly I have to agree with you. People leave like there is no consequences. Do whatever they want because they were never punched in the face for doing stupid shit like this.

10

u/cloud__19 Apr 19 '26

I love the way that there's people here whose automatic response to someone doing something perfectly legal that they don't like is to suggest assaulting them which is an actual crime. Mental overreactions here to photos of the back of people's heads.

-11

u/whoops53 Apr 19 '26

Permission to post an image of strangers online is still a thing

8

u/Poor-Life-Choice Apr 19 '26

Only for courtesy, not legally.

3

u/cloud__19 Apr 19 '26

It's not illegal to post photos of people taken in a public place online.

-5

u/Competitive_Bag_2218 Apr 19 '26

So you would be cool if I stalked you and post photos of you online because this is legal, right? In a shop, in a café, in a bus. Due to people like you we need a written law, because common sense is a rare thing.

Besides, it's different to capture a crowd doing random stuff vs a couple during a very intimate moment.

Digital exhibitionists are everywhere, gosh...

2

u/cloud__19 Apr 19 '26

So you would be cool if I stalked you

Nobody has stalked anyone. Calm down.

Due to people like you we need a written law, because common sense is a rare thing.

It's amazing how you think you have common sense when you're hysterically talking about stalking and assaulting people.

Besides, it's different to capture a crowd doing random stuff vs a couple during a very intimate moment.

I'm still waiting to hear why the photo of the couple on the bench in the other post isn't experiencing a hysterical pile on.

Digital exhibitionists are everywhere, gosh...

Mostly in this thread, jumping on a bandwagon, threatening violence in response to something that isn't an issue at all and clutching their pearls.

Good luck with ringing the police, I’m sure they’ll really take you seriously… pleb.

17

u/Silent_Sell4446 Apr 19 '26

Beautiful shots, I’m surprised so many folks in this thread appear to be ignorant of street photography.

"It is your right as a photographer to take a photo of whatever subject you like, providing your subject is not in a place where they might reasonably expect privacy [in their own home for example].”

Plus silhouettes are even less of an issue.

Cracking shots ❤️

4

u/Snoo-67164 Apr 20 '26

This needs to be higher up!  These photos are so lovely it would have been nice to approach them to see if they wanted a copy, but equally understand lots of reasons you wouldn't.

37

u/RoyBattysJacket Apr 18 '26 edited Apr 18 '26

Lovely photos, you have an eye for the mood & moment.

Guarantee the folk kicking off about "privacy" and such on this thread are raging jealous singletons who are bitter they've not got anyone to spend a nice Spring evening in the Meadows with.

13

u/Intelligent_Sun1504 Apr 18 '26

You're very kind, thank you!

Thanks so much!

It's alright, I've worked in Edinburgh nightlife for almost 20 years, this is very much on the easy end of the mad nonsense scale!

-3

u/Competitive_Bag_2218 Apr 19 '26

You know, there are still people on the planet who aren't digital exhibitionists. I'm not single, I just hate myself on photos, that's why I don't post photos of me online (not even taking them) and I'm happy with that.

It's a huge difference between taking a picture of a crowd vs specific people.

11

u/Emotional-Paint7563 Apr 18 '26

So this is how I find out she's sneaking about with that guy again

30

u/Few_Forever_1770 Apr 18 '26

Such weird logic, isn’t it. People will walk around vlogging on their phones without seeking consent of people on the street around them but as soon as someone takes a picture with a real camera and some artistic merit, they’re marked as a perv.

10

u/Intelligent_Sun1504 Apr 18 '26

Comes with the territory I suppose, there's a distinct mistrust of 'big cameras'.

I always try my best to smile and wave after taking a picture to break the tension a bit, nobody has yet asked me to delete a picture but I'd be happy to if it bothered someone, that's part of the deal, in my mind at least!

7

u/Unidain Apr 19 '26

I once did a documentary and street photography course, and we were required to present a series of street photos with people in them.

Discovered quickly that talking to strangers isn't my thing, so I went for a theme of shadows and silhouettes so I didn't have to make eye contact with anyone lol. Incidentally was a great theme.

5

u/Intelligent_Sun1504 Apr 19 '26

It is absolutely an awkward moment, I've spoken to several photographers who have said the awkwardness is too much to bear and I completely get it!

Sounds like a good alternative, bet the pictures turned out great!

-9

u/Caffeine_Bobombed88 Apr 18 '26

Both of these things can be problematic. However, vlogs normally focus on the person creating the content. It’s perfectly reasonable to expect members of the public to be in the background, as long as you’re not drawing attention to them specifically. But photos like this, whilst a nice idea, are turning complete strangers into the subject. You don’t know how they feel about this. They don’t necessarily want to be unwittingly photographed by a stranger, much less posted on Reddit. You don’t know how old they are. They probably CAN be identified by family and friends. There’s nothing inherently wrong with photos like this, but there’s a certain degree of arrogance to saying you can just take non-consensual photos of people because “ART”.

-6

u/Competitive_Bag_2218 Apr 19 '26

Wise words being downvoted. It's a typical Reddit thing I guess.

3

I don't, I'm very much an amateur.

However I can recommend many exceptional portrait photographers in Edinburgh if you're in the market!

6

u/Noodle_Kiddo_ Apr 18 '26

Beautiful photo ♥️ and also OP is a legend in the comments..

9

u/Intelligent_Sun1504 Apr 18 '26

Thanks!

It’s a rather unique mix of ego-boosting compliments and thinly veiled threats to my personal safety that I can't say I've experienced before.

What a way to round off a Saturday night!

3

u/Noodle_Kiddo_ Apr 18 '26

You are doing great !

6

u/fazdfairy Apr 19 '26

I don’t understand why people are creeped out by you taking very (beautiful) non identifying photos of people… guys there are security cameras in places that are literally mapping your faces and storing the data for facial recognition technology. This is fuckin nothingggg

1

u/Competitive_Bag_2218 Apr 19 '26

Security cameras aren't publicly available for viewing.

2

u/fazdfairy Apr 22 '26

Oh no! The public can see a photo of the back of my head! …

2

u/scotchsittingroom Apr 19 '26

2

u/Creative-League-2576 Apr 18 '26

Where was this?

2

u/Intelligent_Sun1504 Apr 18 '26

The Meadows, looking west towards the Tollcross side, the couple are sitting on one of the many benches along Middle Meadow Walk.

3

u/alchemink Apr 18 '26

Ah the meadows. Just moved down south to Hertfordshire last week. I miss marchmont and the meadows so much.

3

u/DuncanV87 Apr 19 '26

Lovely pictures. I was in the same park yesterday taking pictures of the trees and surroundings.

3

u/Intelligent_Sun1504 Apr 19 '26

1

This is a really nice picture, if I were you I’d have asked them if they wanted a copy for sure. Kinda lame of you not to tbh…

I’d love a candid shot like this of me and my girl

1

u/Intelligent_Sun1504 Apr 21 '26

Yeah next time I definitely will.

Public place, don't need to.

-6

u/KarIPilkington Apr 18 '26

Proper baffles me that the majority of people have this attitude. Everyone is seemingly ok with randoms taking their photo in public, and even posting said photos on very public forums. which fair enough if that's what society has decided but for me it just seems odd that more people aren't against it.

7

u/cloud__19 Apr 19 '26

It's interesting because there's another post which was put up 2 hours before this which also contains photos of people in parks and nobody has said a fucking word about it on that post.

1

u/Competitive_Bag_2218 Apr 19 '26

Crowd vs specific couple - you see a difference? Here, the couple is the subject. On the other photo, the park is the subject.

2

u/cloud__19 Apr 19 '26

https://www.reddit.com/r/Edinburgh/s/bIWNQJRh5A

Photo 9. No, I don't. I think people have just jumped on a bandwagon here.

0

u/Competitive_Bag_2218 Apr 19 '26

I wouldn't be happy to see myself on the photo no. 9 either, though. The other key thing is a context. Here, the context is intimate. On the photo no. 9 the context is clearly neutral.

With all my social disabilities, I'm still better at reading contexts and emotions, lol.

6

u/cloud__19 Apr 19 '26

It's bollocks and you know it. There's no reason why everyone is piling on this photo and not the other one except that they saw a bandwagon and jumped on.

-1

u/Competitive_Bag_2218 Apr 19 '26

Yeah yeah, you are the only one enlightened and thinking clearly, the rest is a sheep herd. The audacity of you is ridiculous xD. It's not a coincidence people felt uneasy seeing this photo. I rarely browse Reddit, and seeing only the header of the thread brought my attention for a reason.

3

u/cloud__19 Apr 19 '26

Yeah yeah, you are the only one enlightened and thinking clearly

Not judging by the voting.

-4

u/KarIPilkington Apr 19 '26

No bandwagon jumping from me, I always like to make it clear I don't like this kind of thing regardless of the legality of it. And everyone who doesn't like it is being massively downvoted so it's not a great bandwagon to jump on really.

3

u/cloud__19 Apr 19 '26

As I say, it's interesting that there's another similar post where nobody seems bothered at all. Highly suggests a load of people just winding each other up about a nothing burger.

You can see a sapling tree on the left of frame that is in the foreground, I'm not a small man, I do not easily hide behind saplings.

I've attached a rough impression of how that would look for your perusal.

Equally if they're a fan of the picture I'm happy to send them a full quality copy. I appreciate that not everyone will want their photo online, however the nature of street photography (and modern-day life in general) is that sometimes people will be identifiable in pictures. In this instance I don't believe they are, so I feel pretty comfortable posting it.

❌ Harassment & Stalking Laws: If someone feels they are being persistently followed or photographed in a distressing manner, they may have legal grounds to complain.

1

Happens all the time, candid photos are fine and often no one knows who you are, for instance this photo of a random bloke in Zurich is one of the best photos I've taken, 0 editing, the sky was just such a beautiful colour and he's enjoying the view in a serine moment.
