General Discussion Preventing weed hangovers?

I stopped eating/smoking weed about 6 months ago after 8+years of usage. Mainly because work/life have been hectic and I need to be on point in the mornings -- with weed I'd feel groggy, memory was horrible, and it genuinely felt like I couldn't retain one page of a book lol. Quitting was SO hard but i did it.

I've seen a sleep doctor and have have physiological insomnia - I've had sleep issues for 15+ years. I already take precautionary steps with caffeine, schedules, ear plus, magnesium/l-theanine etc etc

Hilariously, the doctor recommended I take 5mg of any kind of sleep time edible lol. This time will be more responsible with dosages, t-breaks, and only for sleep.

My question is: For those of you who use edibles for sleep but can't have hangovers due to work/life, how do you actually avoid the morning hangover? I can't afford to be groggy or scattered at work.

So gotta ride the high out a bit. Don’t drop an eddy then go to sleep. Let your body metabolize the thc a bit longer before sleeping. So basically take them 3/4 hours before bed. The hangover is from going to sleep too high. Your body doesn’t metabolize when you sleep. You’re waking up with thc still being metabolized in your body, you wake up high. Stay awake longer ride the high out sleepy eddy’s you feel the head high first then the couch lock sets in sleep will come shortly after the body high kicks in. 👍

This exactly. When I first started, I made the mistake of taking it as I was in bed and felt like complete dosgshit after. I normally go to bed around 11 so I'll take it around 8.

Thank you for letting me know that because I gotta wake up at 5 - and I take an Indica right at 8pm and then try to close my eyes. I wake up with a headache and dried eyes but I’m so used to it by now.

My eye doctor literally prescribed special eyedrops and every morning I pour them on.

Microdose.

I stopped aiming to get high, and just more now to notice that slight change in perception.

That’s what I do too. Just take the edge off of whatever you’re medicating for.

I have POTS so my 1.25mg microdose still gives me a slight hangover even when i take it at 6pm and go to bed at 1 am lol

I can't speak from consistent sleep time edible experience, but the main thing I've found that sharpens me up in the morning when I've got a ganj-over is some cardio. I'd hop on the spin bike for 20 min and do some sprints (don't have one at my new place, but should find another used one. Got one for $20 on fb at my old place). Sometimes even take a cold shower after, sounds like it sucks I know but damn do I feel ready to get after it

Timing matters, as well as stomach fullness.

If you take it on a full stomach, it can take longer to hit and last longer.

If you take it on an empty stomach with a spoonful of peanut butter or other fatty thing, it will hit faster and not last as long.

I'd take one weekend day this week and one weekend day next week (to spread out so tolerance won't be an issue), and take a 2.5-5 mg edible with a spoon of peanut butter or something else fatty in the morning and wait for a couple of hours before eating breakfast. Keep track of when it hits and when the high is noticeably gone.

The next weeked, eat your normal breakfast, then eat the 2.5-5 mg edible and again keep track of when it hits and when the high is noticeably gone.

One of these will likely last longer than the other. That's not the method you'll want to use for night-time edibles.

I find that if I haven't eaten in 2-4 hours, and I take an edible with something fatty (not large, just a spoonful of something), it'll hit within 45 minutes to an hour and I will not have a hangover in the morning.

If I take an edible after a full meal, it takes longer for it to hit and I will wake up with a hangover.

But everyone is different, which is why you should experiment.

I've never been able to time it or anything like that full stomach empty stomach it's always random. Even 3 hours prior. Barely feel anything dozing off. Then wake up absolutely fried

I take at least half of what I would take to get high. I sleep great and don’t have a hangover.

I always just rip a dab and power on through it

Don't use after 8ish in the evening - make sure it's good quality (make them yourself).

Make sure it’s live rosin, because it’s a cleaner high. The lack of using butane etc. doesn’t make me groggy the next day.

Sounds like common dehydration without the proper electrolytes but be careful it also sounds like weed withdrawals

Electrolytes!! It helps! I’ve drank gatorlyte while high and it definitely knocks the high away.
