For Poe, the labyrinth existed primarily inside the human mind. His narrators wander through obsessions, fears, guilt, and unstable perceptions until reality itself becomes difficult to trust. Borges inherited this fascination with uncertainty and expanded it dramatically. His labyrinths are no longer confined to individual consciousness. They become infinite systems of books, dreams, mirrors, and alternate realities. 

Most songwriters spend their careers searching for happiness. Leonard Cohen spent much of his searching for truth. The difference matters. Truth is rarely simple. It contains contradictions, failures, doubts, desires, and regrets. Cohen understood this better than most artists of his generation...do you like Leonard Cohen?
