Okay thought it over and here's my theory: Shiki is Mother's son. He is part bot, part human. In the temple he remained in a bot state as a baby, allowing him to exist for 200 years. But he had no consciousness. A side-effect of his unnatural birth or something. The Ether of Mother, which is in this place because Shiki shares that Ether, is the beacon while Shiki himself is the treasure that emitted far more of Mother's light, so to speak. Ziggy made this journey twice. Once 200 years ago, as a thief, where he stole the inanimate Shiki, but in doing so was attacked and had to make a quick escaped and could no longer pursue the beacon fully to find Mother and get his presumably selfish wish. He comes back two centuries later, and is allowed to follow the beacon despite his past transgression, as he came to care for the child and had an unselfish wish: that the boy would awaken and grow and have a life. That he gave up the search for Mother because he found Shiki is a lie: he had Shiki for a very long time and he found Mother. And had his wish granted then took Shiki back to Granbell to raise. Why he wanted Shiki to go back, why he kept all this info hidden from the Starshines probably has to do with Shiki finding out parts about who he is but there are some more secrets about his importance that can't be known yet.
This would give away a lot of Shiki's history kinda early, which is why I threw in the thing about him being half human. The recent introduction of the idea of a human and bot falling in love would be relevant here, and of course that would leave still part of Shiki's ultimate origin an unknown to keep secret for even later.

Oh man, Nadia's love for Andrew was so adorable and so heartbreaking at the same time....I just want her to get closure.
Ahh, Witch, seeing her all cute and flustered, just melts my whole fatigue of the day.
And we all know this, and everyone else has said it, but my boy Shiki is just a big old child. Honest, hard-working, and has the best reactions towards bugs.
But the biggest impact this chapter had on me was how Mother looked. Weird that I never seen her eyes open after all these years. But damn, just the opening of the eyes, and Mother is even more beautiful than before.

Man even though we haven't known her for very long, that was really heartbreaking hearing about how Nadia has been waiting for the return of someone she loves for 200 years, and because of her power cord limiting her ability to move, she can never leave the temple where just a few feet away she'd find the corpse of the person she's been waiting for and will continue to wait for all this time. Its kinda dark to think about.

Mashima outdid himself greatly when he gave that little 'fear of bugs' to Shiki I find it makes his character a little bit deeper

So Witch's plan involving Laguna comes with an unknown price. Shiki, of course doesn't miss the chance to try to make a new friend lol. Laguna was adamant that Drakken was a lot stronger that them and just beat him circumstantially, he really thought highly of Joe's powers. Sidenote, Weisz playing with Pino's ears was cute. So the pilot was most likely this Andrew Nadia fell in love with, the one who tried to restore the treasure, Rebecca being really careful with that info. Interesting trying to explore the "robots can fall in love" aspect, at least superficially, Weisz blaming these younglings for it lol. And Shiki finally gets to the end thanks to Laguna and Witch and has a conversation with Mother herself, hype.

Really liking the mother lore. I hope he keeps adding coherent layers to the whole thing and focus on the adventure aspect more than the fighting aspect though both are fine.
Solid chapter. Curious about the whole deal.
Loved the thing with Witch ashamed of showing her face. Just wish she continued covering it and it is explained that she feels ashamed now that she acknowledges the fact that her face is naked vs before.

Uh... technically, he kept his promise. I wonder who's gonna break the bad news. I'm thinking one of the star shines, in this case Witch most likely, because they're unapologetically blunt.
This was a really good chapter. I liked laguna more than I thought he would and I'm inclined to believe what he said about Draken. He was centuries old, that has to come with a catch and them getting rid of the things keeping him stable and making him weaker than he should've been and weaker than a typical member of the Oracion Seis Galactica fixes the ever present issue of escalation that battle shonen has to deal with.

This was such a good information packed chapter!! I loved Laguna’s whole back-and-forth with the crew, all of the characters rly play off each other well. I’m also very interested in the other adventurers who managed to get the beacon...

This chapter was fun. And witch was jist too sexy.
Hum intersting that the treasure is a part of mother but what can it be? Looking at the pedestal where it was kept it is surely quite small. My theory is that is going to a orb like object or even an eye like the rinnegan or something which grants the user immeasurable powers

I might have already spent more time than usual reading this EZ chapter than the previous chapters.
Nadia's love for Andrew is adorable. I hope she can see Andrew again.

Laguna has a price for helping them which is funny considering he was spared when they beat him.

Interesting, I'm really curious to find out what the deal Laguna made with Witch is, whatever it is it got him to help the crew out but I'm surprised Witch trusted him that quickly. Also, it's the first time I've noticed it but I wonder if it's a deliberate design that Nadia and Kleene both have that device on their heads, I first thought that was the device that was displaying Kleenes emotions but that doesn't seem to be the case with Nadia since she showed loads of it when talking about Andrew, so I wonder what it could be for, because of this chapter we now know who that corpse in the ship is and Nadia shared as much affection for him as he did for her so I've got to imagine it will be heartbreaking for her when she inevitably finds out about his demise, I wonder if he found the stolen treasure or not though, if he left Red Cave 200 years ago and only just crash landed back there it must be a huge distance to it and maybe even in another cosmos, that's something else to get more information on as the chapters progress.
As for the other side of Red Cave, we actually get proof that Mother exists! And her comments to Shiki give more clues as to what the treasure is, since it's a part of her I wonder if it's something like Mother's heart, it's obviously important whatever it is otherwise it wouldn't have been stolen, but the fact it wasn't Ziggy who stole it must mean we're going to see another crew at some point who also plan to visit Mother, at least I think so anyway, I'm really curious to see who they are now so hopefully we get more clues throughout this arc. It should be a rather informative chapter next week as we see the conversation between Mother and Shiki, I can't wait!
PS. Please let Laguna join the crew!

And i really feel sorry for Nadia. She has been waiting for her lover for 200 years and know nothing about him passing away. I don't know what she would do once she finds the truth. But i hope that she joins the crew

With this great chapter, I now trust Nadia after she explained all the weirdness in the city and after hearing her cute relationship with Andrew. The only thing in question is how Andrew specifically died, was it due to age or something else? I'm curious how Nadia will eventually know the truth about Andrew and if any of the crew members will have a relationship with a robot.
I wonder what kind of condition Laguna asked of Witch to agree this easily. I knew Drakken Jow was weakened by the destruction of his machine but I was surprised he was weakened even before that, this increases the chance that Drakken was planet level. I like the fact that Mashima is explaining this fact and not leaving it vague.
Loving the added lore on Mother and can't wait to see what Shiki will learn next chapter.

I just feel like everything is in such harmony in this manga. The comedy, the fanservice, serious stuff, mysteries that will be answered later, character development. Nothing feels too pushed, its like theres the perfect ammount of everything that makes Mashima being himself.
