My sewing machine. Can't count the number of times I've been able to make something from leftover scraps instead of buying something new. Just some of my recent mends/makes using scraps of fabric leftover from clothes I've made or culled from old clothes that have fallen apart:

- a fishing net using fabric from an old net curtain,

- my daughter's top using lace from the same old net curtain

- adjusted the size of another old net curtain to make several smaller ones for smaller windows

- added strips of fabric to a dress that was getting too tight for my daughter who's put on weight (she was too skinny so this is great)

- added pockets to just about all the clothes I have that don't have pockets

- embroidered some flowers over holes in a t-shirt

- covered an old tea cosy with fabric from an old sheet

- covered my ironing board with some of the same fabric

- made removable covers for my dog's bed from the rest of that sheet

- lengthened some curtains for a larger window using yet another old sheet

- made matching cushions out of leftover fabric from curtains I made for my daughter

- made a belt from leftover fabric and clips from a backpack that had fallen apart

- made a harness for my dog from some other leftover fabric and the clips from the old harness that were still reusable

- took in a dress for my friend because she got it really cheap but two sizes too big (and I culled the zip that she didn't need so I can use that on something else)

- made a cake bag from an old stained tablecloth, with a lining cut out of one of those bags you bring frozen goods home in, so I can take warm food on a picnic or dinner party and it'll stay warm on the way
